If Silent is your "old mate" then I understand. No problem but listen in. Says lot about this forum albeit in another world; same pillocks.

Us Blades all have different lives Bush. That play tells us all a lot about life, social media, tolerance, common sense, trolls, getting things out of perspective, obsessions, humanity. Give it a go and tell me what you think. Well worth 44 minutes. Just happens it was in today's paper and a review on yesterday's programmes.

It is allowed to be different on here isn't it? Or did you mean something else?
Sorry for the late response. I was referring to Silent Blade being deaf. I thought perhaps you knew and it had slipped your mind.

A much changed Under 23 team today for a game where we had already qualified as winners of our group. Bradford played a team that consisted of some new first team loans and it was interesting to see Stuart McColl and his assistant there. I was told one of the wing backs was from across the city but I can't confirm that, might have been called Penney or some other coin of the realm.
Not sure it's a great idea to play two games so close together and I felt for Ti Smith who came on as a second half sub it seems he played on Saturday at Under 18, Monday for almost the full game. He always gives his all but I bet he sleeps well tonight. I was interested to watch our keeper Jake Eastwood and in fact he had a sound game until he got a head knock that meant he had to come off, I heard the physio say Jake had been knocked out. We had used our 5, yes 5 subs so we finished with 10 men.
We played with 3 centre backs Graham, Cummings and Semple, who was captain today and our wingbacks were Bennet and Kelly. Croft, Ford and Reed formed the midfield with Hirst and Hallam up front. The defense played well as usual but a change by Bradford at half time meant a change to 4 at the back and it was nice to see Charlesworth playing again. Its true to say that today the ball did not seem to stick although Hallam and Crofts had good chances that on another day would have resulted in goals. As well as the subs already mentioned Mallon, Slater and Doherty came on in place of Ford and Hirst and we did see more of a return to our high intensity play
Not much more to say really except that Louis Reed played the whole game and he put in a real shift. I've read comments about this player but all I can say is that his aggression and tackling was a feature of the game and it's good to have him back.
So that's it not the best game this year but the effort was good but a few of our lads were showing signs of two games on so near particularly with the high energy way we play and I hope Jake Eastwood recovers well, United need all the goal keeping talents we have on our books

Eastwood took a shot full in the face from that striker at point blank range whilst spreading himself to block.

The newly baptised Wendy reject was Matt Penney as you said, and the star of the show was the Bradford striker who I think is as good as sharp was at that age and possibly better, Reece Webb Foster was his name and he timed his runs brilliantly, scored, and has a thunderous shot on him (Eastwood had concussion from the impact of the ball) this lad should we decide to start stealing talent would be top of my list, he was as good as anybody I've seen this year at centre forward and I say this because of the way he timed his runs into the box and the speed at which he arrived, Sam "bomber" Graham and Joesph Cummings were excellent all game, they had to be or it would have been a heavier defeat, reed controlled a lot of our play and was impressive and we ended the game with Cummings finishing in the net as we played with ten men..

Just added a few details Baw ....I know I'm rambling, we should nick that striker as fast as we can....if we can..

To be fair to single Cummings and Graham out over the captain Semple is harsh. My observer thought all three were again excellent. Last third of the pitch is where the game was lost, as we looked light weight. The Bradford forward recieved rave reviews by all accounts. Cummings went off after an hour and Graham ended up in Net.

Thanks for your comments and as I said the Bradford team contained a good few players that could play in their first team. Although the Centre forward was good Eastwood had few direct shots to deal with. The initial back three played well but unlike Monday the fine distribution by Semple was not capitalised on by the lads at the front. Incidentally when we moved to a back 4 we still contained their play. I thought the high energy lads tired due to too
many games that is except Reed and it was his first game in a couple of weeks. We will be OK next week

Agree with that and when Cummings came off we went to 4 at the back with Charlesworth on the right and we still contained Bradford who had rearranged by pushing up an extra forward. All in all the defenders were solid. Hope the keeper is OK, some save that

I will admit that our Off the Field Business 'Management Team' are not very good at maximising outgoing players fees if you look at the Walker, Jagielka, Maguire examples some times they did ok with the fees for the likes of Slew and Mellis,
However, if Ramsdale is going to make it he would have stood a far better chance getting some senior games under his belt at the Lane rather than playing fourth fiddle behind Boruc, Federici, Ryan Alsop (24 years old) on loan over last four years to Coventry, Leyton Orient, Wycombe Wanderers and also at Bournemouth racking up nearly 90 League appearances !
It's really all about money nowadays isn't it ?

To be honest, I reckon whether he stayed or left, I think his next step would be and will be a loan move to get games. I think Moore will be our number 1 for at least another season or 2 (possibly much longer) meaning opportunities would be limited. I reckon he needs to play a season on loan in the lower leagues (possibly our league) and then if he does well, might make the jump to 2nd choice behind Federici (Boruc will be ancient by then, I know nothing about how good Alsopp is).

Our parachute payments had finished and Robson/Robinson had been allowed to sign a number of players on high wages and long contracts. A better manager would have handled it better but we had Blackwell and by selling the two Kyles, he could keep the rest of the squad.

With hindsight, I suspect he did so because deep down he knew he wasn't good at recruitment. So we sold two of our biggest assets to fund paying stupid wages to the likes of Monty and bought Evans instead of proper cover for Henderson.

Everyone running the club at that time made massive errors of judgement. It was a fucking shambles and just typing this has set me off again. Of course, the more pressure someone is under the more likely they are to make mistakes and it's easy to criticise with hindsight but FFS.

That period of our history (2007-2010) fills me with as much despair as the 6 years entrenched in this league that followed. During that period, we paved the way for a monumental downfall. Awful recruitment, awful managerial appointments, the horrendous sale of a magnificent talent in Walker. Spending big money on the likes of Evans, Hendrie, Stewart, Naysmith, Henderson, Carney etc. and then filling the squad with players like Taylor, France, Walton, Spring, Yeates, Seip, Ertl, Bogdanovic, Nosworthy, Simmonsen etc. Makes me feel sick to think about how bad a job we made of it.

Stop it please. I'd forgotten about some of those. It's taken years of therapy.

The Ramsdale situation is really clear in my mind.

At the moment we have no budget to put towards keeping up and coming talent. We get them to a level of 'worth' and then sell them on. That is quite clearly the current policy.

The next player in this position is Brooks. He is a talent who is not ready for the first team, the clubs contract offer is not great, so he will always sit and wait to see what options come his way as he is out of contract this Summer.

The next player in this position is Semple. He is a talent who is not ready for the first team. As a very young Centre Back he needs time to master his trade. Then you have Slater...... and on and on we go.

SUFC have a practice in place that any talented prospect who is still a scholar is offered a Pro contract but only when their scholarship finishes, does their Pro status kick in. So in essence Gilmoor, Semple, Slater, Hallam although all signing pro deals are still classed as scholars. Other clubs, when their prospects sign a Pro contract it kicks in from the day they sign it at what ever age they sign it.

After Brooks, the club have 6 or 7 very good talented players who have all been at the club since 8 years old, and are huge SUFC fans. The club seems to think that this alone means the boys will not move on due to their love of the club. Is life really like that? i am not sure.

In financial terms this leaves the door wide open for our youngsters to be poached whilst still classed as scholars. Other clubs have tied their prospects down much tighter.

If we get higher up the pyramid then as a club we will have a budget once again to keep these players and keep them at the club. So that when we have young players worth £500k then we dont need to sell them, we can give them time to develop.

DCL, Ramsdale, Adams were not getting first team games but the club had no budget to offer contracts big enough to keep them as prospects. Premier and Championship clubs do have the budget to do this. Hence youngsters move on...... At this present time

I agree almost entirely with your assessment of what is happening. I don't have a huge problem with it if it's a necessity to allow us to built a squad that can get promoted. Unfortunately, it is the polar opposite of what McCabe said would be the case when the game-changing investment arrived.

Going back to the game on Wednesday its worth understanding that this competition is mainly for Reserve teams. We have already won against Newcastle, Hartlepool and Rotherham reserves with a team made up of Under 18 and even Under 16s. If you look at the Bradford report on their site you will see how they view them and that's why their manager and assistant were present. We are able to compete at this level but my point is that we need to be fit to maintain our high intensity play and that's why 2 games in 3 days is a big ask. That's why our lads in defence did so well but our normal outlet was not as effective as usual. A fresh Reed was the exception. We have some great games coming up and I am sure we will be prepared to perform to our usual high standard

Thanks to you and all the others who chipped in with reviews and comments of the game.

If it means we get out of this league then i get it fully.

If we don't then where do we go

Game changing investment. LOL "I did not have sex with that woman" - Bill Clinton.

Re selling/giving away young talent I'm sure it's not beyond someones capabilities to call 118 118 and get the number for the bloke at Southampton or even Charlton and get some simple details as to how to get REAL money from obscenely cash rich prem clubs for exciting young talent.

I must admit that Southampton are very very good at both developing players and maximising their real worth - When you consider that they have sold Bale, Walcott, Oxlaide Chamberlain, Lallana, Shaw, etc etc and still command a good position in the Premier League then we need to take a long hard look at their business model !

But look at that list, all top premier league players whose talent has been seen by both Southampton and the buying club. I bet the demand to buy was high and then so is the price, maybe demand wasn't quite so high for our players

I'm from Barnsley so 13 fingers is not unusual in my experience, I've got fingers to spare

I'm an Oughtbridge lad, so a bit more refined. We get out of the bath to piss in the sink ;)
