Be off soon to watch our Under 23s play Bradford in a cup competition where we have won our section. It will be of interest to see who plays in net. Ramsdale played on Monday. Whoever it is I wish him all the best. As one door closes another one opens, so it goes. As a matter of interest I am told we have a fine prospect playing with the 18s so we should see him soon as well.

Yes it is and a good business as well. Just wish we could retain a few of the assets (Players) on our books as well
we do
theres several played first team football and are on the bench
we sell only one or two a year
we just bleat on about it a lot

a lot of youngsters move on , mainly unnoticed
of the team that lost to man utd in the final a few years back , how many are playing first team football anywhere

the club cut several every year as they dont make it

but that doesnt attract any comment, but its how it is

Stars like Ramsdale will move on until we get ourselves back in the top half of the Championship but we should be better at converting players with a bit less talent but good enough to play for us for years; players who can get the first 100 games or so under their belts and grow with the club on it's way up. Players who can be better than some of these we sign at 28 years old or more.

Surely there must be some but they never appear, never get the chance. Whiteman and Reed must have expected the chance to establish themselves by now and we just have to blood Brooks soon surely. All these new signings push them all further down the queue.

We seem to have at least a handful of good prospects on the way up. How can we convert them to regular first teamers? The loan system is a must and continuity of the management is essential. New managers feel more secure playing experienced players and are reluctant to take the risk of investing playing time in young lads. There's a balance somewhere.

The ones that are still playing are:

Slew - Plymouth
McFadz - Scotland (Killie?)
Whitehouse - Lincoln
Harriot - Wilmington NC
Barry - Derry
Ironside - Nuneaton
Kennedy - Alfreton
Maguire - Hull
Long - Mighty Blades.

We won't find another keeper as good as Ramsdale in the next 20 years. He went for 7 figures having never played a league game - there's a reason for that.

Selling him is our latest big fuck up.

I heard the same about Girolamo and a lot of praise for Long. I think you may be ejacualting prematurely.

Like Jacob Mellis then. Sold him to Chelsea for a million never even made the squad. Was there a reason for that too?

It was Mellis' attitude that let him down, never his talent. Let's not forget the clown set off a smoke grenade in the Chelsea changing rooms.

The reason Danny, and this is only IMHO is because the market has gone fucking crazy. In some senses it is more than likely a fuck up, but ultimately it's better than Ramsdale walking out of the door for nothing (which he seemed set on doing) at the end of the season. Even if it had gone to a tribunal to set any compensation, do you really think the F.A would have done us any favours, because I sure as hell don't.

No. We didn't. He was signed by Chelsea as a youth team player before he had a pro contract with us. It was entirely his decision and he subsequently used social media to take the piss out of us.
The compensation awarded by tribunal was £400k rising to £1m depending on progress which included making first team appearances.

We will be expecting a match report pal, so hope you have a notepad and pencil!

yes not a whos who of the elite is it

well done Harry ,
No, slightly disappointing but to be expected really. If you get one or two from each 'batch' you're doing well.
Non league is absolutely full of ex academy players these days, which is why the standard has improved.

but its my point that the club , like every other club brings on as many players as it can , some will make it , some will attract attention and get chased
.
Some can be a loss to the club
but then theres the slews and degiralamos who promise much and deliver little
so Ramsdale going is more Bournemouth taking a bigger risk in giving us substantial funds for a player yet to prove himself

its exactly the same way we looked at Long 6 years ago , and look at the stick he gets now
ramsdale saved himself from getting in our team , making the odd rick and becoming a scapegoat

It's time some people take a reality check !
Unfortunately, Sheffield United FC are a third division club competing against the likes of Bury, Walsall, AFC Wimbledon, Shrewsbury et al ! - We will lose emerging young players like Ramsdale to Premier league clubs like Bournemouth who only manage to house around 11,000 in their third division ground but fortunately for them receive around £100 million per year because they ply there trade competing against Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool etc.
Until we get back into the top half of the Championship our better younger players will continue to leave the club to join teams who play at a higher level and subsequently pay much more than we do !
Fact of Life - Get Over It and Move On !!!

I don't know if you're replying to me or just having a rant but what did I say that contradicts you?

What's the evidenced reason for any of this?
Having seen him several times for the U23's, 2 of his games for us in the cups and the word of seasoned pros. Along with his regular England call ups. The interest from at least 2 premier league clubs yesterday after numerous scouts watching him.

Little evidence then of it being a big fuck up.
