I feel the need to say that the years under Chris Wilder have been the best and proudest I have ever seen as a Blade. We are potentially heading for relegation but would that be the worst thing that has ever happened to this club? As a veteran of the Don Givens penalty miss that sent us plummeting to the old 4th division I can say that not by a long, long way would it come close to that. Of course we stick with CWAK in the event of relegation and hope to God that they stick with us. It has been a bloody brilliant ride and it sadly looks like it may be coming to an end. So be it , if I happens we would go down as a stronger, better run team than any other United side I have seen relegated (and I’ve seen a few!)

I’m really, really gutted at our current demise. We, once again, stood on the brink of a period of domination and being the best, only team in the city worth supporting. We may well have blown it as a Prem side but we can be a real tour de force in the Championship should that happen . We need to show a bit of class as supporters. Smile through adversity, be different from the rest. Of course we should criticise team tactics, formation and recruitment because that is our right but talk of letting Chris Wilder go is insane. You have to know where you came from to appreciate what you are. We came from abject misery to be the talk of the country. If the worst happens this year we will still be heavyweights of the Championship. That’s progress!!!

...and we may beat WBA next week and it’s still game on! In CWAK we trust!

I was proud of the team and manager that got promoted to the PL and took it by storm pre-lockdown. I’m not proud of the slow, boring, negative, passionless and predictable team we have become or a manager who is too stubborn to change things when it is clear it’s not working.

Clappity clap
Such a knee jerk response. Implying mine is a thoughtless post that ignores the context, history and reality of the situation. Positive? yes. Blind loyalty? Not a bit of it. All I am saying is perspective is what is needed. Maybe you weren’t at the Walsall game. Not your fault if you weren’t but trust me you wouldn’t post trite like “clappity clap” if you were

Yes, I was there.

Now moving on.

Talk of holding on to Wilder no matter what, on the basis of what he did in lower leagues, that is naive. How did Ranieri get on after winning the title? How’s Leicester doing?

So, forgive me, as I don’t think we are actually that different in our opinions, but all this froth about holding on to Wilder because he was successful in lower leagues? Nonsense. I will back him because he was successful last season in PL and Our Team is a PL team. If the team doesn’t look like improving (and I believe they will) then no man is bigger than the club.

That’s my perspective. It’s more important that we are successful in PL than hold on to nostalgia. As it stands, Wilder may be the best manager to deliver this. Despite our form this season and the end of last season.

Ok - thank you for a reasonable and cogent response even though I don’t agree with you. So much better than a ‘clappity clap’ that was your initial post. I think we both agree that this current position hurts even if our thoughts of how to respond to it may differ!

I apologise for being flippant in my initial response, just feeling sore.

I’m not “Wilder Out” far from it, just SUFC first.

To have 4 years like we have had and then 1 shit year, i will take that. Im not a lover of the epl, this may sound rubbish but i love the championship so a return there if that is what happens is not a disaster for me. Almost every game in the championship is a good match mostly played by huge teams with a rich history. And if we end up there Wilder is the right man to bring the good times back. Wilder is the best manager ive seen in charge of us and i started watching under Harris

Apology accepted! I agree no man is bigger than the club but I also believe the club is currently no bigger than a small time operation with technically limited players in the context of the Premiership. We rode a wave of momentum that carried us to some dizzy heights but then reality kicked us in the nuts in a big way. The loss of Dean Henderson and JOC ripped the spine out of the team and our supporters, our twelfth man that were key in tipping tight games our way, were also taken dramatically from us. Talk about an unlucky team - those footballing gods really cooked up something special this time. Truth is it seems our team was always fragile and just couldn’t survive this double whammy.

My point is I cannot for the life of me see any logic in even considering getting rid of Chris Wilder. Whoever takes over would still take over a limited team on limited resources. We could get Jurgen Klopp and still go down. It’s the unique synergy between Wilder and the team that has carried us from the depths of the third division. That can hopefully be reignited but not if we start some feeding frenzy and self mutilation by getting rid of CWAK. Let’s not pretend we are a decent Prem side under poor management. We aren’t, we are a poor Prem side under a brilliant management team now feeling the pressure. The one thing we can control is the pressure we as fans place on the management. Calling for heads to roll is bloody silly. If our continued evolution means dipping for a season or two to the Championship, so be it. We would have snatched at that a few years ago. I think we need to cut the management some slack (doesn’t mean at all that they are above criticism) and not jump onto some insane managerial merry-go-round

This... a rallying call for fans. You have won me round in that concise statement. I’ve never called for Wilder to go (despite my posts of SUFC first, which I am sure the big man agrees about).

A poor Prem team under a brilliant management team? Why did Wilder sign them if they are poor?
We are a poor Prem team (which is indisputable after one look at the table). That isn’t remotely the same as saying they are poor individual players. The team isn’t clicking at the moment at all but, bloody hell, they have shown that they can when we get the mixture right. Sadly the mixture has been contaminated by major injuries and departures and a global pandemic that has taken an essential element for us away. A different manager won’t change any of those contexts so my vote is to stay with the best we have ever had and ride this out wherever it takes us this season

It looks to me like CW has lost the fight.
It's sorry to see, but can we just sit by and do nothing? For me there HAS to be signs of progress somewere?

If we parted company with Chris Wilder, there’ll only be one winner......and won’t be us.
If we were that shortsighted to sack our tufty, I think we’d find that he’d be in another job the very next day. In fact I’d go as far to say some clubs would sack their incumbent to get a free agent of his calibrate into their club.
If we did pull the trigger on Wilder, the history books would merely say. Chris took little old Sheffield United as a far as he could, We didn’t match his ambitions, He needs a crack at a big club etc etc. In very much the same way people talked about Eddie Howe and Bournemouth and Sean Dyche at Burnley.
