utterly pointless. clearly shows blackwells thinking in terms of play, he never gave him a chance and he could have done job - better than quinn anyway. it also worries me where the club is going in terms of signings or should i say sales - ""It's an opportunity for Lee to get some football and allows us to make a saving on wages" also - why the hell do we need another left back - who cant even get in derbys team! a joke.

I think many of us agree that Hendrie didn't get a real chance at BDTBL.....but if KB isn't going to play him then, i suppose, a reduction in wage bill is a plus.....not sure about Stewart though.............but he played for Watford....so i suppose he partly fits the reprofiling.

We've now got Naysmith, Taylor and Stewart at Left Back. And if he can play left wing too he's fighting with Treacy and Reid. So basically we've signed someone for a position we already have 2 players in his each position.

At centre half we only have Killa and Morgs and I guess Walker can come into the middle if neccesary....

Is it just me? or are we signing too many wide players and not covering the middle??

If this goes through it shows how far we are going backwards.

This is like a trade in US sport, where it would be classed as a "salary dump".

We wanted rid of a high wage earner and got someone to take him that has more use for him, but we have to take someone they don't want in return.

Blackwell was never going to pick Hendrie and Hendrie hasn't been consistently fit, so it's not a big deal I suppose. It's just a shame that for one reason or another the one player on the books who has shown at previous clubs that he can be a playmaker never showed this in his time with us.

I struggle to see where Stewart fits into the side but of course he is an afterthought.

lads...do you really think Derby are taking on all of Hendrie's salary? they are in a worse financial position than us and I would bet you as much money as you want that we are either paying part of his salary or we've had to pay him off (which amounts to the same thing) to go there!!

I am a bit mythed about this one.

It makes perfect sense to ship Hendrie out. I made my views clear that I think the under suage of Hendrie has been nothing short of criminal. However, as Stan pointed out KB is not willing to play him. Hence a getting rid of a big money earner is practical.

As for Stewart then I don't know. Greg is right that it seems pointless to brig someone in for a position that is already covered. What is Blackwell planning. Naysmith to centre back if Morgs or Killa gets injured? We are crying out for some CB cover. It could even be argued that (short term) this is more important than a creative CM. We can always take a CM in the loan window. But it may prove more tricky to loan a decent centre half if (or should I say when) Morgs or Killa gets injured.

I don't like the way this is shaping up. Not at all. I know I'm spouting old news, but we are looking very thin on the ground. Our 1st eleven (actually 12 with Cotts not in the team, arguably 13, 14, 15) is good enough to challenge for automatic. But with injuries and suspension we are completely screwed. It could be a real shame. That we look like challenging but then lose 1 or 2 players and the season goes to pot.

Blackwell has already commented on the 'double deal' being 'a saving in wages'.

Nothing about "Improves the Squad" or "Gives Us a Real Lift" ?

No, I suspect even he is as underwhelmed as the rest of us !

I reckon Derby said they'd take Hendrie provided we took one of theirs and Stewart was the best of a bad bunch.

Where do you get that from? In actual fact they're doing pretty well at the moment financially - the American owners paid off most of the debt that the club owed (around the £30m mark) and as far as I know the only debt they have is on the stadium - an £8m chunk of the remainder was paid off in the last few weeks. Also, they have 23,500 season ticket sales, so I don't think they're doing too badly at all. How much do you think Savage is on?

I can sort of understand this.

I agree Hendrie hasn't been given much of a chance. But if he isn't in Blackwells future plans whats the point of paying big wages for someone who doesn't even make the bench.

Even you not saying "wait untill he plays before knocking him"

This tw is bobbins isn't it - not even any made-up car reg plates spotted at BDTBL yet.:gallop::gallop:

Completely agree with that analysis. And if it ultimately means that we've freed up additional wages for other players, all the better. I can't say I'm bothered the least bit about this transfer - it's akin to ridding us of David Carney, another that perhaps wasn't given as much of a chance as certain other squad members, but who realistically wasn't going to play.

With all these Watford signings, and having had a look at Blackwell on Saturday, I think our manager is really Ade Boothroyd in a Fat Suit

Well he never played Hendrie ,Carney or Bromby.Howard was second choice behind Quinn.
Hendrie and Carney now have a chance to play again and Bromby can play for Leeds the team he was a fan of since childhood ,good for them.It must have been very frustrating for them being a Blade.
Stewart can take Bromby's spot as cover.
Oh dear Hendrie is up against us at Derby never mind we have Blackwells answer in Quinn.

Hendrie and Savage in midfield, I think they will do a very good job together for Derby at championship level

They'll be knackered after 30 minutes.

Hendrie is crap and hugely overpaid. Delighted he has gone.

May I nominate Bramley as a pundit of the year candidate. His succinct and to the point view of Hendrie is indeed enlightening so say the least.
May I also make the point that perhaps Bramley is in fact Blackwells Forum Name because only he would share the same view!

So he's not overpaid?

Oh overpaid? I thought it read overlaid, as in on the sunbed ;)

He's only overpaid cos he never played. If he'd played week in, week out, people wouldn't be thinking that. You can't blame him for getting the money he got and never playing, either. Also, if rumour is to be believed, Blackwell lied about his fitness quite a lot to excuse the fact that he was nowhere near playing.

Obviously, all footballers are overpaid, but this is relative!

Sorry for the double post, but this from the OS was interesting:

OS said:
Hendrie, meanwhile, made just 26 appearances in his two years with the Blades due to injuries and suspensions.

Nothing to do then with Blackwell not wanting to play him? Fair enough, he's the manager at the end of the day, but that's just bullshit. Have the balls to own up to not wanting him, Blackwell.

Do you really think Blackwell is rattling around Bramall Lane today thinking of jobs to do?

"You go and knock off early Andy, you've earnt it, I'll write up the press release about Hendrie leaving"

Not really very happy with this one.

We are poor in the middle as it is, so why get rid of a central midfielder and bring in a wide player, which we already have a few of down the left?

Hendrie never even got a chance at the Lane, but when he did play he looked decent. How Quinn and Howard can get a game over him baffles me.
