Stewart for Hendrie

Of course I don't think he wrote it. I'm not completely stupid, just mostly.

But the spin that the press office add to news stories doesn't come from nowhere. Blackwell will, I'm sure, encourage the myth that Hendrie had limited appearances due to injury and suspension, when in fact there were plenty of opportunities for him to play when he wasn't injured or suspended and Blackwell just didn't fancy him. Which is his prerogative, of course, but why then say something like this? It's just more lies, spin and bullshit, which is what seems to be usual these days.

He's only overpaid cos he never played. If he'd played week in, week out, people wouldn't be thinking that. You can't blame him for getting the money he got and never playing, either. Also, if rumour is to be believed, Blackwell lied about his fitness quite a lot to excuse the fact that he was nowhere near playing.

Obviously, all footballers are overpaid, but this is relative!

Totally Agree - Blackwell couldn't handle Hendrie so he froze him out

Do we not think if this had been the case that Mr Hendrie might have had a word to the press? he's hardly been a shrinking violet over similar matters in the past.

Sad to see him go without a proper bash at the first team, but it makes sense to get his wages off the bill if we aren't going to play him.

I do agree that it makes sense - no point him draining money from the team if he's not playing.

I think there are deeper questions around why he wasn't playing, though.

On BM yesterday, there was a chap who claimed to be Hendrie's uncle, and he broke the news about the swap deal before anyone else - which gives him some credibility. He's one of several people who have mentioned about Blackwell lying about Hendrie's fitness as a cover for why he wasn't playing him.

Sorry for the double post, but this from the OS was interesting:

Nothing to do then with Blackwell not wanting to play him? Fair enough, he's the manager at the end of the day, but that's just bullshit. Have the balls to own up to not wanting him, Blackwell.

How about...

Hendrie was costing us a fortune and for financial reasons we needed to move him on. Stewart, on the other hand, is no Ryan Giggs but he's cheap! ;)

As long as he doesn't play it's easy to claim Hendrie is brilliant, unfortunately he has done little to show it. I too think he has talent but also, too often when things are not going his way he takes a piece of someone. If he plays for Derby it will be a race with Savage for who gets the first red card. More likely a sub. As for Stewart, we only have one left back (Taylor), and we only hope Naysmith might be playable in December. Getting Stewart seems a smart move in a physical league.

Think this is a very bad piece of business
if quinny get's suspended which is likely with the amount of bookings he picks up and howard or monty pick up a knock can anyone offer any suggestions to who we can play center mid?

we've needed a center midfielder desperately ever since tonge lost it and it should be the top of of blackwells priorities

I think the phrase is look before you leap :):):)

Think Stewart is getting a raw deal here to be honest but as usual is being put down by people who can't ever remember seeing him play. He's actually a pretty solid defender with plenty of pace. Naysmith won't be fit until at least Christmas so cover here would seem as relevant as anywhere else on the park.

Hendrie has had plenty of chances and never quite pulled up any trees INCLUDING his loan spells at Leicester and Blackpool. Can't believe some people are turning him into some poor soul who wasn't given a chance. It would appear that some Blades only like any of our players when they move on.....even Bambi is being mourned now

amazing bit of spin really. anyway, he's gone and we can actually look forward to cracking on with the rest of the season using 1/100 of his wages on a striker for cover.

Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking stewart at all, but at left back we have walker, taylor, and i'm sure kilgallon or quinn will be able to play there if needed.

and i'm not defending hendrie as you rightly said he hasn't pulled up any trees apart from a few promising performances now and again but surely having a player available to play a position is better than having none whatsoever
financially. letting hendrie go is not a bad decision providing we have cover, without cover i think it's bordering on stupid

walker cant play left back and as fo kilgallon or quinn ??? are you being serious ?

yeah if push came to shove, not sure about whether killa has the technical ability
but definitely think walker could and quinn might be lacking in strength but can put in good tackles
i'm not saying bringing in a left back is a bad idea, far from it. but don't think we should have got rid of another center midfielder.
but now harper beens confirmed i'm more confident, and we'll have to see how it goes

I think you've got to look at the manner in which the transfer / swap was conducted.

Both players / clubs simply cancelled the player's contract and hence they became free agents, so Stewart cost us nothing, but did save us a lot in wages, which now could be given to Killa. If that happens then I'm happy with this move, even if Stewart never plays for the 1st team. (not fit, etc).

I am disappointed in the lack of movement during the later stages of the "window", but I trust Blackwell to use the loan system to good effect.

Complain about the club = fine.... we may see him say something now he has gone.

Agreed.

Killa has played there before - so I'd assume he is being serious. Walker would be able to do a good job there IMO and Quinnn hmmmm think that is er.... a strange call.

Well Jim;that should boost his confidence no end eh. Let's give him a chance before slagging him off.

If he gets into the team :)
