Stevie Gerrard

That was my original point.

JJBlade was saying that he would go to any club in the Premier League except Sheffield United.

Why on earth would he go to West Brom but not us?
That's the thing, he wouldn't. Clubs like us, West Brom, Burnley arnt even on Gerrard's radar. He is getting massive publicity and winning trophies up in Scotland. Unless he gets the same down here, why would he..? He'll only come to a really progressive or top 10 club. Aston Villa etc.

The achievement comment is a bit fact lite. Skint and complete rebuilding after poor management appointments.
A wage bill 10x higher than the bottom club in the division. It's a Goliath v David win.

Fair enough they've bettered Celtic this year but Celtic have had a shocker and the limited abilities of Lennon have been highlighted following the legacy of Rodgers.

Gerrard knows there will always be a massive question mark over his ability as a manager if all he does is win trophies in Scotland.

I think he'd be interested in managing any club in the Premier League.

The likes of Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea won't be interested in him just yet so the best he can hope for is a club like Villa as you suggested.

Ah, the "Celtic were dogshit" reasoning :)

What's the wage comparison between the top and bottom PL clubs?

Complete rebuild is stretching it a tad.

Even when Rangers were shit a few seasons back they were still finishing 3rd.

That tells you just how poor that league is.

Celtic have been shit though. My deceased grandparents could win the SPL just the 4 of them so it's hardly an achievement.

The PL is different, there are 6 teams with wage bills all there and thereabouts then the rest are a sliding scale downwards from there. In the SPL it's one of two, so if one is shit then the other one only has to turn up to win the league.

3rd tells you how poor a club the size of Rangers were at that point.

The wage comparison?

There's no way in a million years he'd even think about us. But that doesn't mean that he's too good (or even good enough for us). The two aren't mutually exclusive. For management jobs, there are two factors (i) standing / reputation and (ii) ability. Gerrard has the first in spades (Wilder doesn't). Whilst Gerrard is unproven in ability for me (soo far), I doubt he thinks that himself, hence why he wouldn't come to us. And that's fine.

I'd say our wage bill is around £40m so it's probably 4 times lower than the biggest spenders. Much closer than Scotland.

Man City 2020 reported as £315m pretty much 10x ours l would have thought. DeBrunye, Sterling account for over £30m alone.

Not far off 10x then. The point being that there are a cluster of teams who have similar wage bills so it's not the case that the whole of the league is just cannon fodder like in the SPL.

Anyway back to the point, Rangers are cunts and Gerrard is a cunt.

The Scottish Premiership has become a bit of a joke.

A lot of players in that league regularly do the rounds in League One and then end up going back. We even got caught up in it at one point with the likes of Murphy, Holt, Higdon, Scougall and McNulty etc.

Hell, put Nigel Adkins and Nigel Clough in charge of Celtic and Rangers and they'd still hoover up a few trophies.

It was an even bigger joke when it was a one team league. Funnily enough Celtic ran away with it because of their quality for some of the Rangers haters on here. (Not you).

If you hate one because of what you believe they stand for, you can't really have a different view on the other lot. Cut from the same cloth.

We can't just dismiss Gerrard's achievements in Scottish football when they have been really solid in European competition too. It may only be the Europa league but they've beaten some decent teams this season. Lyon, Benfica and Porto. Think he'll do well at a progressive premier league team.

Really? Ok they’ve won the title and they’re in the Europa league, but Sheffield United is not a backwards step, even if we’re in the championship.
Rangers are a much bigger team when we’re in the champ. 45k plus every week, worldwide fan base. They’re in Europe soon to be in Champs league qual. Decent budget now, chance of winning the league every season.

I’m not saying Scot Prem is a good league, but Gerrard will go to a premiership team not a championship and it is a step backwards for him right now.

Fair general point, but Benfica this season are terrible. It's like rating Anthony Joshua because he can knock Larry Holmes on his arse

Gerrard will have to stick around up there a bit longer yet to prove himself. We all know which job he's waiting for and for his sake, Klopp will have to pick up the pace soon or it might come round a bit quick for him.

If we had Gerrard, he would piss off to a better job as soon as one came available.

Long term if he continues to prove himself then he may find himself at Liverpool as manager.

Still doing a great up there.
Anyone who thinks he hasnt done well (in his first managers job) is a clown!

Judging by his interviews I don't think he is going anywhere.

Rangers have been good this season but it is worth remembering that this league title is the first trophy Gerrard has won from nine available in his tenure and he has had the second highest budget in the league that whole time. Even in this unbeaten year they haven't reached Hampden after being put out of both cup competitions in the quarter finals by St Mirren and St Johnstone respectively.

And if he were to go anywhere, I have a feeling it will be the PL and not the Championship, although I'm pretty sure pig fans think he would jump at the chance to manage a massive club, even in the pub league

People who "reveal" the startling truth that the SPL isn't as good as the English one must be constantly amazed at the results everytime they turn a tap on.
