Unfortunately, this wouldn't surprise me at all from the club's POV. After Selles they'll probably be looking for a "big name" manager and they probably saw what Lampard's done for Coventry.

But isn't he still in Saudi Arabia making big money?

No, he's left the Saudi Arabian club.

Currently out of work, which given the fact we'll be paying Wilder and Selles off after tonight makes it more plausible.

I don’t think he can get employment yet as it would mean he’d have to pay shit loads of tax on his Saudi money.

We're getting David Weir back again apparently. He's just left Brighton after 3 years as their technical advisor. Announcement due in the morning.

Anything is possible with these owners bar Wilder coming back I'd say. They have no idea what they're going in terms of manager appointment based on the decision to sack wilder and replace him with Selles.
The decision to sack Wilder was the correct one, even a fair chunk of our fan base agreed with that.
They have however got it wrong with the appointment,.
It happens in football just look at Spurs or Man Utd, but to say they have no idea what they are doing is a bit OTT loads of clubs make the wrong choice.

Sacking Wilder can only be correct if there's a better replacement out there. There isn't so it's an incorrect decision that will have major ramifications for this club, probably for years to come

I'm probably suffering from a severe dose of Selles induced shell shock, but I would be very open minded about a Gerrard type appointment.

Did a very good job up at Rangers, didn't quite click for him at Villa and then went to fill his pockets in Saudi.

Pockets now full, with a dented reputation to rebuild. No premier league clubs are going to come in for him, the only way he's getting back to the top table is to take someone up, why not us?

2 very different people/managers, but the links and comparisons to Lampard are clear and obvious, Cov fans weren't exactly jumping for joy at his appointment, and he's done well there so far.

Gerrard definitely wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't go into melt down if it happened - and let's face it, things can't get any worse, can they?!

So we should have just kept Wilder despite him blowing the play off final.
How do you know if any manager would be a success or should we just stick with Wilder forever, every manager appointment is a risk.
We could have been moaning about Wilder if we had kept him and we had only got about 4 or 5 points, don't forget we probably would still have lost Anel and Vini.

Exactly.

Getting rid of a manager is like selling a player.

It’s only a good deal is what comes the other way works out.

There was not a decision necessary to be made.

If they’d had an opportunity to get Cooper, or get Dyche, you could have bought into that thinking.

Apart from one freak result, the 3-0 reverse to Hull, where all their shots went in, there is no barometer where Sellés outstrips Wilder apart from ability to speak Spanish!

It seems this hang up on data has been part of the issue. They totally misunderstood that could be used to complement current strategy. It couldn’t be used to replace scouting and player selection overnight whilst at the same time changing coach as well.

Just repeating yourself doesn't make you right.

Sacking Wilder was wrong on so many fronts.

It is blatantly obvious that sacking any manager is an option but only idiots sack a manager without KNOWING that his replacement will take you forward.

Our owners gambled on change without any evidence whatsoever that Wilders replacement would improve us.

Their only recourse is to get CW back even if it does upset many I'll informed commentators.

Sacking Wilder wasn't wrong the appointment was.
We could have appointed Cooper and still be in this position there are no guarantees with any appointments, even if we had kept Wilder there is no guarantee he would have us any better off.
Wilder is a very limited manager, there is a reason why he failed at Watford and Middlesbrough and no other club has taken a chance on him since his sacking.
We as a club have to move on if we want to become an established Premiership club, we have to shed this "Pashun" underdog pessimistic bladey bladey attitude if we want to progress.
I have been giving Selles the benefit of the doubt but after last night he has to go.
But under no circumstances should Wilder be even considered for the job.

I agree with this, aside from I don't think Wilder is limited. I just think he's arrogant and is unable to self-reflect on his faults or where he's going wrong on any given day.
