I have just heard here in Germany, that he has been banned for betting on games. None of the games involved Rangers. Just checked on BBC, it is also being reported there.
Obviously one has to be careful what one says on here, but am I the only one slightly concerned, given his involvement with us? Those who watched him regularly, did he ever do anything suspicious? I know some will say he was guilty of being crap.

Ah, yes. Finally the penalty makes sense.

Dec , many a true word spoken in jest .Although the bloke is going through a bad time with the ban , drink driving charge , and his mrs leaving him , i never had much time for the bloke. Some of his goalkeeping was a bit dodgy at times , and whether that was down to him or the defence , or a bit of both , i don't know.

Him betting wont have started overnight , and desperate times means desperate measures. Could Hans Segers been the same .

If he had missed the penalty on purpose , he was a bloody good actor afterwards.

Yeah I can really see this one happening before the game against Huddersfield....

Simmo: "So here's the plan, we will get the game to penalties and then bet on me (the goalkeeper) to miss the deciding penalty after all the other players have taken theirs".

He didn't fix any of our games. He made a few mistakes and was rubbish at dealing with high balls into the box but that's about it. Also tbf to him he kept us in that play-off final with some decent saves too.

You see, you're discounting the IN PLAY. Simmo had an iPhone down his sock.

Ray Winstone will be disappointed.

"and what I'll do, is save a few, to make sure it looks convincing. I'm sure there's a chance of a penalty specialist and other outfield players on my side missing, so it should work!"

All it would take is for him to bet on us not gaining promotion. It was the only thing he would have had any deciding influence on.

Yeah but if I remember rightly he was one of our better players on the day and made a couple of good saves.

The other good performance coming from Quinny who was like a ginger Xavi that day.

good theory, but hes the only keeeper in play off history to not let a goal in in all 3 play off games, and be on a losing side
dont think thered be many bets on the 22nd penalty in a shoot out

One of the reasons it went to 22 was he couldn't save shit. The miss was bad enough but his attempts at saving were pathetic. If he had turned out in a few of the league games we wouldn't have been at Wembley ,and some people moan at Howard ??

really did you not see de geas pathetic attempts to save Sunderlands penalties last season ,
never read such rubbish you get to guess left or right , its about how lucky you are to guess
and if you dont think its about luck

Could have sworn he saved two of the first three pens.If Williamson, Lowton or Taylor had scored he'd have been a hero, thin line.

Yes. If you want to blame someone blame one of those 3. Personally I hate Taylor the most, as that capped off a 2 year United career containing a lot of injuries, no good games and not a single positive contribution.

Lowtons was the main one for me ,but his weak attempts after those first 2 were pathetic.

He knows the rules, nobody connected with a Football club is allowed in a bookies or online bookies, this includes Physios, Training staff etc etc
What a load of rubbish of course they can go into bookmakers shops and have online accounts what they are forbidden from doing is betting on football games. I suspect with Simmo; as he only got a one game ban, he's had a few online bets most likely accumalators.

Simonsen was a regular in the team that accumulated 90 points that season. He made some very good saves in games. Yes he had a bad spell when he was dropped for the ridiculously bad Long, but after Longs shambolic performance in the 4-4 draw with Exeter, Simonsen came back and made most realise he was actually a decent keeper.

Ah, yes. Finally the penalty makes sense.

I think he must have logged on to Sporting Index in just after SMithies scored his, then sold on a spread as to how high or low over the bar the ball would go in centremetres.

He then retired a billionaire*

* none of this happened apart form the woeful penalty.

Connecting that Wembley penalty that Simmo missed with his recent betting ban is a load of bullshit if you ask me.

What he has been done for is a few accumulators on the football, which is something most people do anyway. As long as he isn't betting against his own team to lose or throwing games i don't really see any issue with players having a fixed odds coupon as long as it doesn't involve their own team.

I felt a bit sorry for Simonsen during his time at the Lane. He did pull off some top quality saves, and did have some excellent games, but unfortunately he will be better remember for some of his howlers. He certainly wasn't one of the better keepers we had, but he dropped a league to join us, a team where morale was low, and who dropped through the Championship like a stone.

I also met Simmo after the Brentford away game, and he traveled back in to London with me and my mates on the train, as he was getting the train back to Liverpool instead of going back to Sheffield with the squad, and he was a sound lad, had a bit of banter with us, and was happy to pose for pictures, although he did seem unusually nervous and unconfident for a footballer.

Just a shame for the lad that it came down to him to miss that penalty at Wembley.

Yes it's a daily tablet called reality

Opinions and all that but I cannot believe you think Simonsen was a decent 'keeper. He cost us on several occasions that season and also nearly cost us in other games (Walsall and Bournemouth off the top of my head) where we were good enough to win despite him.

Had we had Mark Howard in goal that season we would have gone up.

He has been similarly shit at every other club he has been at since too judging by the comments of their supporters and what I have seen of Rangers.

Unfortunately we have to have a scapegoat for one thing and another.

That game at Wembley summed his Blades career in one go. Made some great saves but the time we really needed him - he messed up. Just like the 2-2 draw against the ladyboys.

I am sure had Lowton scored we would have won that match.

Hard to guess where we would be now, who would be playing and whether Nigel would be at the helm.

It's not his job to take penalties. It's his jobs to make saves and he saved the first pen and made good saves in the match.

And what about the saves he made that won us games? He had a bad spell when he got dropped but other than that he was steady, decent. Keeper balls ups always get way over exaggerated. Just like calamity David James. He can't have been that shit when he was on thousands a week and a regular in the premiership.
