Ha ha. he would make me feel slim! I remember being at the New York stadium in Sept 2013 and looking how slim and neatly dressed David Weir was and Evans being the opposite. The final score was Evans 3 Weir 1Can't deny his results but FFS he's a fat, slobby, gobshite. I would be truly embarrassed to see his blubbery carcass in our dugout. Continually hoiking his trousers up as his groaning, overworked belt slithers down his fat arse. But he has done at cracking job at toy town.
Ok, my question was "why not?" & you have answered. He seems to tick a lot of boxes & is right under our nose. But despite being a winner he is fat & can be controversial. Let's go for Phil Parkinson then.
Unless you can think of anybody better?
But also lets not be under any illusion that jibes at body shape or size are any more defensible than racism, sexism or any other ism. Are we straight on that? Good.
Question 1, have you got promotion from this league?
Question 2, have you done it with a club of United's standing and expectations?
No to either means another gamble given there are managers out there who can say yes to both.
Let's not get to big for our boots. A club of uniteds standing... We're a lg1 club and nothing bigger or better. So I'd say that Steve Evans would answer yes to both of those. Like you John, Adkins would get my nod and there would be another couple in front on Evans but he should be in our thoughts.Yes I can. Adkins by a mile is the best candidate.
There are plenty of managers who succeed with a small club and fail under the pressure of a bigger environment. For that reason I'm nervous of Warburton.

I think that most managers will have 'failed' at somewhere or other. There are no cast iron guarantees. Evans would not be guaranteed to succeed , Adkins would not be guaranteed, Alex Ferguson would not be guaranteed. The beauty of fans forums is that people get to give their opinion and it's opinion only. It beats me why some people get so excited and wound up about it. I'm all for debate but let's not get mardy.......Apart from Adkins, who then failed at Reading, who? Let's have your list of candidates.
I'd go with Adkins too - but there aren't many managers with a track record that can't be written off as a flash in the pan. Overlay your criteria and it's a really small group, who'd probably turn us down.Yes I can. Adkins by a mile is the best candidate.

Find me a manager who hasn't had a bad season and I'll show you one who's not been a manager very long. Writing off Adkins on that basis given our position and given his CV would be insanity.
So, off the top of my head, Adkins, Lambert, Jones, Grayson... All managed similar clubs to success in this league. I don't like all of them, but they meet the criteria.
I'm not writing off anybody, I would be delighted with Adkins. Jones???? Why would Grayson come to us? Similarly with Lambert. There is only one realistic name on your list.
I'm just surprised that people wouldn't at least look at Steve Evans' record, and just blindly dismiss the idea without any thought.
But also lets not be under any illusion that jibes at body shape or size are any more defensible than racism, sexism or any other ism. Are we straight on that? Good.
steve evans on a 1 year deal to do the work and get us up then beg clough to come back thats my ideal situation
Oh aye, we're not better. But we still demand automatic promotion and have a large crowd to please.
Rather than all the 'why would X come to Bramall Lane?' let's look at the many positives that BDTBL has to offer.
Exactly.
If he was a slim Italian called Roberto he'd be top of our wishlist.
It's a results business and he should be considered.

Yes, in the fullness of time Clough - like Blackwell and Wilson - will be viewed through rose-tinted glasses. For the more rational of us, it was an utter chore watching the garbage that Clough served up. With him in charge, we'd have been at this level for the next ten years. Thank fuck he's gone. He was steadily destroying the careers of McNulty (shameful public criticism) and Louis Reed. He'd have done the same with Che Adams. His pathetic displays of faux outrage from the 'technical area' - backed up by his public humiliations, fallings out and favouritism - puts him in the John Carver school of managerial no-marks.
And I'd argue that it's a job any manager would jump at. We do not 'demand' promotion. As last season proved, the supporters turned up in fantastic numbers despite there being zero expectations of entertainment, let alone optimism. Once again, this is a pivotal moment in United's history and the board simply must get it right. So let's leave all the usual accusations that it's all the fans fault aside. Rather than all the 'why would X come to Bramall Lane?' let's look at the many positives that BDTBL has to offer. There's a reason over fifty managers have been sacked this year - most of them are no fucking good. Even with the law of averages, Clough was taking us backwards. With very few tweaks and expenditure - which most fans have been aware of for well over a year but which Clough pig-headedly refused to recognise - we can hit the ground running in August. Get Warburton in and watch us fly.
I'll sign off with offering my thanks to Clough. Not for robbing me of many hours of my life over the past two seasons, but for saving me around £200 in an utterly wasted trip to Wembley. Take the money and run, Clough. Some other mugs will employ you. Not for the fact that you're a piss-poor manager, but for the fact that your name is Clough.
He keeps winning & getting promotions. What do you want?
I predict a diet!
No I'm not straight on that. But that's not a discussion for now.![]()
