In fairness to Sitwell, he seems to put objective views across most of the time and i've never really seen him as particularly negative, without justification.

yeh most of the time, when he can't for some reason change the topic to his hatred of Quinn.

Just shifting this one into rumour mill for now, as you'll see - nothing has hit the press.

There is a lot of stuff doing the rounds about Quinny at the moment, most of which isn't true.
 
I accused Quinn of "Flattering to deceive" at times. Tarquin was quick to point out that his performances weren't flattering amd nobody was being deceived., and that I shouldn't use phrases that I didn't understand (:)). I think if he was given a Goose that lays a golden egg, he'd take it back to the shop for a refund.

The difference between the two sayings is that one is a phrase misquoted & overused by sports commentators so much that it has changed meaning - mindlessly repeated by people with no imagination and the other a fable from a Greek storyteller over 2500 years ago. Though I am glad you've tried to compare the two again.

Or, more likely, after mistakenly taking literally something clearly not meant to be taken literally, you wouldn't have stood a chance to have made a thinly veiled yet failed attempt to come out looking clever.

As a saying, it clearly WAS made to be taken literally, then the idiots got hold of it, and twisted it around, creating a new meaning to it. Sports are full of stupid clichés that don't need repeating. What I said was "think about what you're saying instead of repeating a nonsense phrase".

It USED to mean "use flattery falsely to gain favour and hide one's true intent". Now it means "I'm a brainless sports fan and you should kick me. Kick me now."

I think the vast mayority are comfortable using and reading phrases on message boards and taking them in the spirit they were intended, rather than foaming at the mouth flicking through a dictionary to over analyse them. Those that aren't expose themselves what they are.

Never having been picked on in a playground, I wouldn't understand the motivation.....:p

What you mean is, some people don't care about what they say. They don't think too hard about things and just repeat what they've heard - they can't possibly know ALL the words and what they mean. Dictionary? That's for brainiacs and queers. Those that care about etymology are unashamed to expose their love of the English language.

Having likely spent your time picking on the smarter kids in the playground, you're probably confused by some of the longer words there. :p

Hmmmm. You're basically saying that Sitwell is not entitled to his opinion. On a forum, where fans debate issues, that is pretty out of place. But on the North Korean Sheffield United forum nobody will disagree with you.

I'm basically saying nothing of the sort. You've misunderstood again. I'm basically saying that just because it's an online forum, don't think you can't get sued. I never said that's a good thing at all. I just said that's the way it is.

There was also no hypocrisy at all. If someone accuses someone of something they can't prove, they can find themselves in trouble. There's nothing for me to prove. You made an arse of yourself, and you're continuing to do so as you push it.
 
I've formed one opinion today but perhaps I'll keep that one to myself.

well fuck me, a football forum with heated debates about the proper use of phrases and syntax of sentences, but wait theres more construction of the latter and their limitations when confronted by the reality of the grammatical meanings of such hypothetical constructs such as metaphor and rhetoric, bravo to all that have embattled the devils intrument known as the dic(k)tionary to further their cause.
on a lighter note brownie, calling someone a "bell end" could be taken as inflamitory but could also mean "the end of a ringing session" calling him an engorged penis or a complete and utter donkeys cock might be sueable.
adding allegedly might not be defendable.
Incedently quinn does flatter to decieve Tarq as he runs around pretending at times to be a footballer when infact he decieves his self, his club and the fans so to my limited intelligence he is flattering to decieve
