well done to him im not his biggest fan (as u can see from my other posts) but he came on tonight and played really well still think we need another more consistent attacking midfielder, but you cant knock a player for coming on after he has been slated and booed like he has and put in the effort and performance like that.

referees
something has got to be done wether it be they get suspended for games or a fine but that was shocking if i performed that bad at work id be sacked how can referees get away with displays like that. henderson was getting pushed pulled all over and got nothing, but the worst one for me has got to be were the linesman flagged after taylor had been pulled down then put into a headlock and he deemed that a foul the other way, then as soon as the ball went in the box the wistle went for a free kick to us evan though there was nothing. it was just the fact the referee knew theyd got it wrong and had to evan it up. out of ten id struggle to get past 0 for there performance.

thought the game was a good game on the whole and they dont look such a bad team so not to disheartened up the blades

whilst i'm not a fan of quinn. he showed plenty of guts tonight ( howard take note ). The officials were a joke but they are most weeks in the football league

Yeah that was awful.

I do wonder at times what game that ref was watching.

Nothing will get done just look at the Palace incident and how the FL responded to that.

"Sorry" and a 1 or 2 game suspension. Means nothing to Palace though and only benifits the teams that were going to have those refs for their matches.

pure ignorance, its ok but that one goal could send a team up or down, dont get me wrong its impossible to get every decision right but the one at palace and the taylor incident it was just unbelievable and makes you wunder what goes through there heads.

I imagine its a dead hamster on a wheel with some refs.

I thought the cheers from the majority when Quinn came on was nice, and showed that a good proportion of Blades didn't like the booing osn Sat.

The frustrating thing about both Quinn and Howard, is that they are both cabable of playing well in that role, but are way too inconsisent about when they turn up (like Howard last night).

I thought the cheers were just as stupid as the booing, and didn't join in with either.

I cheered him off the pitch, mind - as he'd earned it then.

What is stupid about encouraging and supporting a player as he's about to come onto the pitch and try his best for us???

I for one thought it was fantastic that he was cheered on and have no doubt that it contributed to a very good performance from him which played a big part in turning the game in our favour.

That's an interesting logic.

I cheered him because I wanted him to play well and with confidence, which was going to be a big ask after the idiots boo'd him.

His performances hadn't been great which he would of known himself, he doesn't need idiots in the crowd to tell him when he is out of form.

I cheered him onto the pitch because I wanted him to feel that the crowd were behind him not against him because the performance of the team had been flat until that point.

The least any player wearing red white and black deserve is the support of the crowd when they cross the white line.

Took the words out of my mouth. We as SUPPORTERS of the team shouldn't cheer someone on to the pitch? Oxymoron.

First let me say I didn't boo Quinny on Saturday - but is it conceivable that the boos hit home making him determined to prove the booers wrong, hence his improved performance last night? Just a thought.

Hmm, interesting.
I take your point but don't neccesarily agree. As someone said in a previous post, he wont need the crowd getting on his back to know his performances haven't been good enough lately and booing a player, in my opinion, usually only leads to knocking a player's confidence even further.

I guess a combination of the boos on saturday and he reinforcement and support he got from the crowd last night both played a part.

I would counter with that maybe the cheers made him determined to put a good performance in for the real fans. :)

Booing a player is never going to be for the benefit of the team, especially a player like Quinny. I don't think he is going to good enough for United but he's a trier, so booing him isn't going to improve his ability. Another way of making the same point but it isn't effort that he is lacking IMHO.

Someone at the Bus stop on the way home last night mentioned that they had heard that Quinn has put a transfer request in, not sure how true it is.

Sorry to anyone who disagrees with me, but for me, players have to earn my support - and to do that, they've got to do more than just pull on the shirt. Quinn has been pretty poor in the main since God knows when. People booing him doesn't automatically make him worthy of my applause.

If you think that makes me a poor fan, or not a proper Blade - I couldn't care less, to be honest.

That, to me, is a shining example of the split in types of Football fan these days. There are those who will go to the game to support the team and the players no matter what (and would consider being entertained with a good performance a bit of a bargain!), and there are those who go primarily just to be entertained and will only support the players / team if they feel they have earned it.

Excellent, I'm glad I could provide an example for you.

If you want to clap everything, that's fine. I'm glad for you.

I'll support the team the way I see fit, thanks, regardless of what a bunch of people on a forum think - many of whom, in my opinion, provide a shining example of the kind of holier-than-thou keyboard warrior that seems to delight in telling other fans what they should and shouldn't be doing, and taking them to task over not supporting the team in the exact way they do.

For the record, I do like to be entertained when I go to watch football - I wouldn't pay a vast amount of money to just sit in a stadium enduring something that I don't at all enjoy - and I support Sheffield United Football Club.

That's fine mate, calm down. I'm not judging you or saying the way I support a team is right, nor am I saying the way you support a team is wrong.

I'm also not trying to tell you what to do or not to do, just offering my opinion on what I see as a difference in attitude to supporting Football these days. Going back a few years there seemed to be much more of a unity amongst the fans. They were there with a single purpose; to support the team, whereas now there seems to be more of a split.

I'll not clap everything regardless, but when I go to the Lane I do it with the express intention of supporting the team in any way I can, not to sit there with arms folded with an "I've paid my money, now entertain me" attitude. If I see something I don't agree with I'll react accordingly, but this will never stretch to booing our players. As I said in my previous post, I think everyone wants to be entertained, but for some this seems to be the main reason they're at the ground, while others are there to support the team and will likely take being entertained as a bit of a bonus.

Quick question; would you prefer to see a very entertaining game and lose or see a boring, scrappy game and win?

Methinks Matth got up on the wrong side of bed this morning! :D

Chill man, I don't think he was having a go! :)

I was going to type a long-winded answer, then I realised I just can't be arsed. Sorry.

Think I'm with you on this one. And for me there's another angle too. I'm paying my money and using my spare time to support the Blades - and I want to enjoy it. I can best do this by focussing on the positives of what I see (though I've seen enough football to recognise the negatives too) - and by setting reasonable expectations (I just expect commitment - not Dutch style "Total Football!!). I also realise that my opinions about the football at Bramall Lane mean next to nothing to SUFC or to Blackie - and nor should they, I'm not a professional footballer or businessman.

I realise that some people might get enjoyment out of looking for faults or whinging pointlessly on a match day - and I suppose that's their right - but I hope I never become one of them.

Exactly right mate!

To me, no-one wants to run onto that pitch and do badly and should never be booed just because they have a bad game, misplace a pass or aren't good enough. If they are quite clearly not putting the effort in then it's understandable that people show their displeasure but these days boooing has become the norm in football whenever things aren't going the way people want them to which is wrong.

Yes agree with the 1st part Quinn has been poor however I thought booing a player onto the pitch was a disgrace, so when he came onto the pitch last night I cheered to give him a confidence boost.

I thought he did okay, tested the keeper with the freekick and nearly scored an absolute screamer.

Would you like details on how to become a referee?

Linz - I know you say don't pull people up on spelling etc but complaining about a referees performance when a four letter word cannot EVEN be spelt correctly is a bit worrying......

sorry slap on the wrists for me, ill go off now and read the dictonary. To all other blades im sorry for my poor attempt at a post i know i was rushing because i was going out and just wanted to get my point across. But the fact that i spelt EVEN the wrong way i should hang my head in shame and at least be blocked from making any further posts that may give mobile blade any sleepless night in the future, because been honest i couldnt give a flying fuck... rant over

Petty. The exact reason Blades United was bereft of decent posters and debate.

The point I was making appears to have been missed. It is very easy to be critical of someone who has probably given up years of their lives to achieve what they have done. All referees start up in the local parks and have to put up with an immense amount of abuse to such an extent that most just pack it in. The number of officials registered has fallen by over a third in the last 10 years and continues to fall at an alarming rate due almost totally to this abuse. It is easy for people to sit there and shout its not good enough and people must do better - that is their choice. But this is one of the reasons why many young good referees say "why should I bother" and just pack it in. In the end, we are left with what we have and really these people who dish out the abuse, and without being disrespectful, usually by people who cannot spell the words they are shouting, are the reason why. That is not to say Spadge is personally responsible for the why we have only a handful of decent referees at the current time, but sometimes, just sometimes, the impact of the argument is enhanced when basic grammar and spelling is in place.

I had to laugh to myself - I was sat next to a two guys who were dead ringers for Grant and Phil Mitchell and all through the game every time the ref whistled they shouted 'Useless bald headed bastard' and yet they didn't have a follicle between them!

Are you saying if someone can't spell well then they have no right to criticise a ref after the guy's atrocious performance on Tuesday? Refs are being driven away by bad spellers?!?

That's quite possibly the most tenuous link to a spelling moan I've ever heard.
