Another assured performance from Howard and kicked well.

Again, he didnt have much to do. The best thing he did today was the smart thinking punch in the 1st half to deal with a difficult looking cross. Near the end of the game he failed to hold a ball on the left side of the box and fell down but thankfully the ball bounced nicely to one of our defenders to clear the ball away. As for his kicks, well, nearly all his kicks were to the heads of the two tall Shrewsbury centre backs but, again, this might have been under instructions because I noticed that our 5 midfielders (expecting Baxter to lose his aerial challenges every time) were ready in their positions to battle for the ball that was headed by the CBs. had I been the Shrews manager I would have told the CBs to leave Howard's kick for Weale to pick the ball up as the keepers kicks go further up field than the CBs headers

Not there today, but seeing the result while at work was a great finish to the day. Pleased with all the reports I've been reading. Going to get up for the Brentford game Wednesday, would anyone know if the trams are alright from gleadless townend down to Granville road? Usually park at my Nan's and get the tram as I don't like driving down to the top ground but she keeps telling me I'll not get a tram at the moment. She hasn't used a tram since I was a nipper, anyone have any ideas if they are working ok on that route or still having work done ?

Or maybe, just maybe, de girolamo isn't as good as everyone is making out based on hearsay and hype! If the lad is good enough, he will play in time. I haven't seen this Diego lad play at all really, no one has at a good level, and I'm starting to get annoyed by this constant chat that he's gods gift to us. Let's reserve judgement until they actually play, like we should with any player.

P.s. Scougall on the other hand has impressed me in every game so far. He really does look like he is/will be very decent.

I don't know, I'm confident Diego is as good as they say, just been looked after a bit following the lay off, he'll get his run out when the times right.

Are you being sarcastic with this ,he had to push the ball away near the end and his kicking was superb ,especially first half into the wind. Massive improvement on Long Silent.

Just giving an honest assessment of his game today and he wasnt in any real test (how can you say he was a massive improvement on Long when he was hardly tested on Tuesday and Today?). Before the match I had said it wouldnt be worth kicking the ball long to Baxter because he is dwarfed by the two tall CBs. I did feel sorry for Baxter who isnt a tratitional CF but I am not blaming Howard as he had little option when he was kicking the ball upfield. It was interesting to see our 5 midfielders were in a straight line about 15 yards behind Baxter every time Howard took his long kicks

Genuinely can't remember seeing a player at United who runs with the ball so effortlessly!?

No works at the moment ;)

I would say the back four looked far more relaxed with Howard behind them, so yes, massive improvement. Howard seems to be in the 'Doyle bracket' with you Silent ;)

Howard certainly comes off his line better than Long and his experience shows, but he hasn't been tested much in his last two games. If he plays Wednesday, I think we will be able to judge a lot better.

I think Brentford this Wednesday will be a bigger test for our defence and Howard than against Fulham or Shrews. Howard doesnt deserve to be dropped for this Wednesday as in the last two games he didnt make mistakes like he did against Burton and Rotherham. Why bring back Doyle when our CMs have been solid in the last two games also played good passes

I would bring Doyle in ,heavy pitches and a lot of games are going to take their toll on players ,we will need the whole squad in the coming weeks.

I'm guessing calling him the West Lothian Messi wouldn't hit the spot would it? :)

I know, pedantry at its best but having lived about 15 miles from LIvi its nowhere near the highlands. To really go for it he was born in Edinburgh but what the hell.

JUST SCANS BETTER

Did I mention bringing Doyle back?

According to reports we signed Scougall for £150K, with staggered payments presumably based on appearances, this will rise to £450K. In this day and age that's nothing short of spectacular if Scougall's current form continues.

There are midfield players in the Prem who have valuations based in the millions, and here we are, with a wee lad, a slight frame, still looks like he's doing a paper-round, and he's OURS!!! He's not the finished product, it would be silly to make such suggestions, but what a player! So much confidence, it's as if nothing fazes him. Complete concentration throughout a game. Yes, there were, I think, a couple of passes that went astray yesterday, but you could see that Stefan beat himself up over this, it's as if he sets himself standards and is hard on himself when he falls below these standards.

Call him work in progress, and of course he'll have off days, but he's so much better than what we've become used to.
With the likes of Brayford, he's the type of player that makes parting with your money a good deal.

Do we have a better midfield player? No need to answer that question, Stefan's going to be at the heart of our future if he carries on like this UTB

I've been saying for months if he had a name like John Smith or sumat, nobody would rate him nearly as high. Even if he'd played for England's u/19s already. Because he's playing for Italy "he must be great"

Take Kyle Walker for example, arguably the best we've ever produced and he just kinda landed in the team one day and everybody knew he was good. No massive hype before his debut

Possibly because he didn't sound as exotic to those who listened to those of us talking about the reserves/youth :)

When he scored our 2nd goal which wasnt a hard shot, I was thinking of Broomhill's post in BU some years ago saying that he doesnt remember Jimmy Hagan scoring a screamer so Jimmy's goals were like a "pass to the net". If Scougall keeps scoring goals with a "pass" to the net then I am happy!

I'm not so sure that Scougs "passed it into the net", I think the wee fella put everything he had behind it and that was his version of a piledriver. If it hadn't been wind-assisted, it might not even have reached the goal :)

Slightly fortunate that it managed to evade the keeper but I'm not complaining.

So if Foxy or Daz told you that Diego is a bigger talent at his age than either Naughton or Walker would you believe him. We can call him Dave if it means people can just get off his name.

Alright Dave
