Stearman won it for us, TWICE.

Sure there's not a problem anyway. Sharp first man to Stearman on Tuesday to celebrate

Yeah I can't see it being a big problem. All of us can see that Stearman isn't shit, I'm sure whichever player said it can now see it as well.

One of our players disappointingly reckons hes shit ,I reckon that player talks out of his arse. Top player.
I think it would probably have been best for all concerned if that info had been kept for another day and time but either way, couldn’t it just have been said tongue in cheek? He’s obviously not been ‘shit’ since he settled mate far from it, it’s there for all to see.

Alchohol was obviously involved so this one is better put to bed.
Team spirit is excellent this season .

It was a private conversation so wont say who but I was hugely disappointed when he said it ,no matter which of his team mates he said it about ,I reckon he sees him as a threat.

Was it Jake Wright by any chance?! Ha ha!

The total opposite to Neill Collins.

Harsh on Collo Sitwell. Maguire speaks highly of him from his time with us. I know Collo divides opinion but I think that many players during the 90 minutes are so pumped that they might not be capable of being the most positive on the pitch and they get frustrated. Its not ideal playing alongside that player if he starts having a dig but its done out of a passion and it also strengthens your mental strength. I know because I've played alongside someone like that, albeit in amateur sport.

Rewind a few weeks and there people on here saying Jake Wright should be playing instead of him...

I'll say it again, we're a RCB away from having the best defensive unit in the Championship.

Add in a midfield 3 of Coutts, Evans & Fleck - and I predict next season we'll be much more 'organised' and 'compact' away from home.

Will need to be in Prem !!

Is there a reason why you can't print the value of an undisclosed fee retrospectively?

The reason I ask is I (and likely others) would be genuinely interested in the revalation that United bought Stearman out of his contract, and paid £350k to do so.

I'm not part of the anti-star mob, and I read online occasionally, but I feel I'd read more often if there more 'creative' articles as opposed to just repeated quotes from an old Radio Sheffield interview or match reports.

It’s out there mate. We’ve previously published the fee too. https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...g-signing-ahead-of-return-to-wolves-1-8998271
Can I ask what you mean by ‘repeated quotes from an old Radio Sheffield interview’?

He has been fantastic now for a while. A proper leader who commands the back line and he can play a bit. Chipping in with a few goals now too, which is something we have largely missed so far in this campaign, although we were spoiled last season in that department.

I have eaten humble pie once and don't mind doing so again because I was convinced for a long while that Wright should be starting in his place. Well not a chance at the moment Jake my lad, although I am sure you will still play a part before the season finishes.

My comment wasn't aimed at people who just thought Wright was better, but those who claimed Steargoat was "shit" simply because they wanted Jake in the side. No need for humble pie for the first group.

This is interesting to me, I live on the south coast & find it difficult to attend may games so can only base judgement from live TV games. I didn't take to him at first, yes he is calm but it also comes across as indecisive at times as well, & not quite in tune with the rest of the defence. However, as so many of you think he has made big strides since his first performances I will look more closely, & amend my thoughts on him if I have got him wrong. It is also very pleasing to hear he is a genuine bloke too.

I take it back completely, it clearly says in the article how we purchased him, based on your impressive recall I've no doubt you've included the fee in another article - my apologies.

As for the "repeated quotes"; I found often when reading quotes in the star from a player, that I had in fact already heard them online or on the radio.

Quite a few on here insisted he was, after seeing him at the most, in one friendly.

That's nothing. We've got 'expert' fans who don't even need to see players in a friendly.

IIRC Billy Sharp wasn't exactly welcomed back with open arms. Leon was a 'past it journeyman' and Baldock, Stevens and Lunny weren't the big 'star' signings that were needed.

Football fans, eh?

Bless their little cotton socks.

To be fair it was a few months ago ,he'd had a few ,and it went on the lines of 'cant believe we've bought him hes shit' . My own opinion was he sees him as a threat ,or it could possibly be personal ,or he doesn't look as good in training. I was disappointed in the comment and walked away ,it was said to about 5 of us ,a couple of who are good friends of his ,so it may even have been just being a bit of a nob .I do like the player but he can be a bell end sometimes.

I'd take a wee guess at our Kez, seems like he has a bit of an attitude, saying that an attitude focused in the right way can be good, but about your own teammate is a bit of a dick move. Only reckon its him cos he told Adkins to F*** Off. If it was him i'd forgive him for anything for saying that!

I wasn't responding to your post Sean, it was more just a general admission of guilt on my part, in line with the thread. :)

That’s the beauty of Radio Sheffield returning from a press conference and putting everything they have straight online. Newspapers don’t have that luxury unfortunately

Maybe that's why newspapers are generally finding it hard to keep up with other forms of media?

The star has a website and I'd imagine the ability to record audio? Is there a legal reason why you can't do the same?

If it was really 350k then that's an incredible deal for us. And a surprising one for Fulham to agree to.

I thought he looked decent from the start by the way. Didn't do much wrong and got undeserved criticism, largely for not being Jake Wright. Got injured but since he came back he's gone from strength to strength. That central role suits him very well and that's exactly why Wilder signed him.

I think it leaves Basham as our next link in the defence to upgrade. Not a bad thing, always be a player you can plug in anywhere and he'll do a right job.

I thought he looked like a class player that was settling in, but still more than good enough. Even I can't be bothered to go through my posts but I think I was an early member of the Stears appreciation society, still love Jake though. Got enough love for both.

Great deal at that price. Got a good few years in him yet.

Nearly all players take time to bed in, and in a way it's more difficult for defenders than for, say, midfielders as we expect a more solid, flawless performance from them, knowing that any mistake can lead to a goal.
Therefore any sort of uncertainty or flaw can read like a real problem until the player settles into the squad.

I think this was the only issue where Stearman was concerned. No worries now.

Yes to a website and audio recording. Also has six editions a week

Fair enough, I would have thought, if you (the star) had the facility to record and post the interviews, then you (again, the star) would.

Also, the need to fill enough pages for six editions a week probably dilutes the quality - are the star obligated to write about United, even if there's no "news"?

Sorry about all the questions, I wasn't intending on interviewing you.

Yeah, it’s something a lot of people still buy the paper for. PM me if you want any more info mate :)
