Stearman won it for us, TWICE.

To be fair to Stearman, his games have improved & does bring a sense of calm to the defense. Did anyone else notice also him trying to lift our guys heads when we were under the kosh for the last 20 minutes? It was very Gerrard-esque. He also was happy to bollock Donaldson for his sheer lack of effort at closing down. He does have his moments when Cruyff-turning on the edge of his own box gets our hearts in mouth but to be fair, I'd rather see that level of calm under pressure than a bomb-scare everytime they get the ball within 30 yards of an opponent.

To be fair it was a few months ago ,he'd had a few ,and it went on the lines of 'cant believe we've bought him hes shit' . My own opinion was he sees him as a threat ,or it could possibly be personal ,or he doesn't look as good in training. I was disappointed in the comment and walked away ,it was said to about 5 of us ,a couple of who are good friends of his ,so it may even have been just being a bit of a nob .I do like the player but he can be a bell end sometimes.

Presumably before he’d won his place back in the team? In fairness the Stearman currently on display (solid, confident on the ball, leading the defence) is a little different to the version that played those initial games where while not playing poorly he looked sluggish and not particularly in tune with our style of play. I’d be amazed if the same player hasn’t changed his view since he spoke to you – as a good number of fans have.

It's a competitive workplace. If somebody is on any type of bonus related to wins/playing time then they'll never be happy with newcomers.

And at £600k everybody in the squad must have known he'd most likely play most games - turns out he was worth the outlay

What I find even more surprising about Sitwell’s revelation is that Stearman seems to me from the outside to be a really nice bloke. He seems very encouraging of his team mates, he’s always the first to applaud Moore or Blackman if they make a save. I’ve even seen him check if opposition players are okay after winning challenges against them.

He’s a leader. Very much a captain whether he’s wearing the armband or not. Most of us greatly admire both Billy and Leon but personally I don’t want a striker as captain on the pitch. Club captain, by all means, but centre-back or central midfield on match day, please.

He’s an absolutely top bloke. Can’t speak highly enough of him as a guy

I’ve never met him but you can sort of tell. He’s always encouraging and geeing up the others and his enthusiasm is obvious. He always leads the applause at the end of games and usually last to leave the pitch. After one game, was it Preston, he walked off with his arm around Jake Wright.

Around half that sum, I believe. A bargain as it turns out.

Hopefully it’s now a thing of the past but it’s the sort of thing Tufty would really not like.

I was under the impresssion it was £1.25 million. Can remember seeing something about a ‘seven figure sum’ somewhere unless I’m mistaken? Still good value in this market, when you think he’s only about 28/29 he could be our new Chris Morgan.

It's quite hard to gauge a player when you only see them either on tv or highlights.

From reading on here he looks to be an astute signing and if he has half the influence that Morgan had on the defence over the years then he'll prove to be a great signing

Richard Stearman, football genius !

That’s what the Wolves fans used to chant. Albeit because he divides opinion, but reckon we should pinch it.

The total opposite to Neill Collins.

I agree actually ,I only mentioned it as a throw away ,not realising it would get the response it has. Most footballers play the big I am and talk shit anyway. It was more about how wrong people were about Stearman ,than targeting the player who said it.

Agree about stearman. I personally preferred Wright because he made players around him better but Bash and O’Connell now look at ease and I am more than happy now with the switch’s Wright is someone brilliant to bring on though and wilder must have huge confidence in him as he really is our only senior CB not in the team.

Always had a ‘soft spot’ for Stearman Rhino...

...and he 'Liked' one of my retweets on Twitter!!!

That'll do for me!

He's a possible threat to Sharp's captaincy? That would be my bet.

That's what I was thinking. It fits with the 'he'd had a few to drink and started saying things he shouldn't' scenario as well.

Let’s also not forget that he made a similar tackle in the second half against Leeds.

It was, until we found out how much it was :)

Is there a reason why you can't print the value of an undisclosed fee retrospectively?

The reason I ask is I (and likely others) would be genuinely interested in the revalation that United bought Stearman out of his contract, and paid £350k to do so.

I'm not part of the anti-star mob, and I read online occasionally, but I feel I'd read more often if there more 'creative' articles as opposed to just repeated quotes from an old Radio Sheffield interview or match reports.
