OK you win. ( in your world).

So are you sticking by your original bet of £30 at 2/1 for the league as per your original post or are we changing the terms until they suit you enough?

How about this, I'll take your *revised* bet of league winners, *revised* stake of £10 but I'll offer you 4/1 for that bet instead?

And you can still pick the charity.

Well done Pete, a bit measly with the odds bearing in mind it's for charity but it will still cost you £50 if United are Champions, that's fair enough and you've got a bet.

My chosen charity is S24SU and that has the added benefit of publicly proving that the bet is honoured.

It's not a bet I would normally do as there is always some team pops up but it's in a good cause.

Do you agree the charity or shall we apportion it if you end up paying £50? Must see proof of the donation though and S24SU is convenient for that, a scan would suffice though if elsewhere.

Must say I'm often at a loss to understand how your mind works at times, particularly on this thread, but this is sporty of you.

Woodward, if you'd stuck to your original bet at your original stake and the original odds, it would be worth more.

But you know that.

No offence at all to S2 4SU, it's a great site, but I would prefer the bet to go to the Children's Hospital should I win. I've made bets with people (and lost) on BladesMad before and once you donate to SCH you get an email confirming which would be proof.

But don't worry on that score, I always pay my bets.

I'm utterly bemused by your comments at the end and I really think you're completely unaware of how you yourself come across (as evidenced by your patronising and condescending 'advice' on other threads).

This thread would have lasted 2 posts If you'd just stuck to what you originally said rather than trying to change every single aspect of the bet to suit yourself and then have the audacity to blame it on me!

Rather than calling me out, a bit more self awareness wouldn't go amiss.

"Condescending and patronising", apparently so, but well intentioned; that's life and some things a man just has to say!!:).

To justify my comments about you, the initial comment on here was simply a statement of fact in the context of my wider post. The first time a bet was mentioned it was about promotion not the Championship, subsequently a bet with more realistic odds was offered for the winners. You harping on about changing the bets was nonsense and I provided quotes for you of the two relevant posts. I reckon you believe your version, so read it again to learn about yourself. If you read it differently let me know.

Anyway, that's a deal then, no offence but I really do hope you lose and if you do we will all be happy, we'll have a great season and the Childrens' Hospital will benefit. Good fun.

At this stage I think Wigan might get their house in order before long, Walsall have quality and maybe Coventry and Gillingham could be the surprise packages. Otherwise I'm confident, especially if Brayford gets fit before Xmas and we strengthen by January. If we are still in touch by mid-January I hope we can stretch away but as I say, there's always one club which spoils United's parties, always have been.

Please avoid my posts in future and I'll try to avoid yours. That might save you some anguish and save one of us money at least !!;)

Anyone is free to read through the entire tedious exchange and make their own mind up, as I think at least one person has done, but I think you conveniently dismissed them as you do most people who disagree with you.

As for the patronising guff regarding 'learning about yourself', you would do well to take your own advice, I think others pointed this out to you on BladesMad too and was the reason you originally flounced off that site with your tail between your legs.

I hope I lose the bet too, and you've done well to completely minimise the possible money you'd have to outlay whilst simultaneously calling me tight, so well done there too.

I assume most will see through your actions like I do.

I stayed off here this weekend as well as the OP and I still have nothing useful to say, other than we are still favourites to win this league and rightly so. It is understandable that many fans are worried at this stage but there are so many facets to every season and nothing is more certain than certain teams racing away early season only to tail off, others stay in touch and gradually come through and even the odd team catapults from bottom half to Top 6 in the last few weeks.

Look at Scunthorpe, 4 games ago they were in the bottom 4. Since then they have won three on the bounce and are 12th and only 4 points behind us in 6th.

Fans need bottle as well as managers and players and they also need to stop talking shite, just because it makes them feel better when life turns out not to be a warm, happy fairy tale. Those fans who pester Phipps are a total embarrassment but it's bad enough when it's on here. Total shite.

Here and Now. You say I don't understand odds, but you offer me 2/1 against United getting promoted THIS season and I'll have £30 with you. Money where my mouth is like.

OK I'll call your bluff -5/1 to win the league. I'll wage a tenner. Proceeds to charity of the losers choice -via S24SU

Say no more.

How does it cost Pete £50 if he is offering 4/1 on £10? You go into a bookies, pay £10 and you get £50 back if you win inclusive of the £10 you lay down. So it costs the bookie £40 of their own money. Surely, if we win the league, Pete pays £40 to the Children’s Hospital and if we don’t, WWF pays £10?

For what it’s worth, I Can vouch for Pete honouring his bets as he and I had a bet on blades mad with the Children’s Hospital benefitting after another poster was shooting his mouth off but backed out of the bet. Back then, Pete was a bright eyed optimist who thought we’d finish above Wolves and put his money where his mouth was. It was only after the third season down here that the cynicism set in.

Folk say this is an easy division to win this season. That may well be true to a degree, but it does not mean there are any easy points, far from it. Any team can beat another, home or away, but it all pans out by the end of the season.

In the meantime certain fans seem intent on stirring up anti Board and anti-manager resentment and it does not help at all - that's what Wendys want.

And how fucking depressing is that? There’s so little between us and the teams at the bottom of the third division that many fans think a point is good/decent and are not surprised or exceptionally disappointed when we lose to them. With our resources, should we be part of the muchness that is this league or should we be capable of putting together a side that, yes, will have the odd slip up but will also blow plenty of teams away at this level (like our first season down here, like Wigan did on Saturday etc.)?

I don’t think they’re trying to stir up anti-board resentment. I think they feel anti-board resentment because of the aforementioned failure to create anything significantly better than much of the dross in this league despite the advantages available and this forum is an outlet for those feelings.

Pete reckons I know nothing about odds - it's all for charity anyway. Fancy a go?

It's all for charity. I encourage you to bet at worse odds than you would get from the bookies whilst I myself will only put up if the odds are better than at the bookies. Come on you tight bastards. Put your money where your mouth is like me.

you deserve some brownie points for all of that.

Do you know it should be £40. Thanks Dane. No stake is laid down so none to return. Well done. Hope you got that Pete.

Isn't hindsight wonderful?

Search the word Garmston on this forum. You will see 6 results.. 7 when i finish typing this. Clearly no fucker on here had ever heard of him until this season.

I had. Was at wba and has a lot of family in Sheffield I know, played at most England levels to this point. Sorry to disappoint

PeteBlade

Did Woodwardfan's tenner ever make it to the SCH?

As far as I know, blade too long has also yet to donate his £40 for his bet with me that we'd make the play offs.

Yes it did, I'd forgotten about it to be fair and he sent me a PM about it.

Not sure if BTL remembers anything from his time on 'that' side of the argument...
was after wed gone 2nd after 5 games and Adkins first said he was bringing in quality
foolishly I took him at his word , didnt know how ineffectual his trading skills were
thought he had more about him

Don't worry I wasn't asking you to repeat your tired old argument again.
