but the facts remain that we`re 5 points off auto after a shit start and lack lustre performances.

and still in reach of the top two. Better to peak later than too early, took Adkins about 15 games at Southampton to get them really firing (though admittedly he has had the pre-season with us)

well said blade too long . You've saved me loads of typing.

Far too many people oversimplify things that we would all like to do in a perfect world but unfortunately the world we live in is not perfect.

Take the "human" element out of football, employ robots and allow us to buy and sell exactly what we want, when we want and we can't go wrong.

It can't be that difficult. Come on McCabe, sort it

Man Utd Sold Ronaldo but did they then sit on their hands and do nothing with the cash?

Your statement is inaccurate.

In the summer of 2009 Manchester United received £65m for C.Ronaldo and spent £19m on new signings.

Ins:
Valencia - £13m
Mame Diouf - £3.2m
Obertan - £2.8m

The following year (2010/11) they spent £20.5m and signed:
Vermijl (now at SWFC)
Smalling
Hernandez
Bebe
Lindergaard

They received £13m in transfers too.

2011/12
Spent £40m Received £11m
De Gea
Jones
Young... Ronaldo's replacement??

So in summary, total expendature per season

09/10 - +£54m
10/11 - £7.5m
11/12 - -£29m

That left them with £17m still to spend after 3 seasons

Yeah, 23 other clubs in this division looking to improve their squads. Good point, it must be churlish of me to expect us to be able to compete with global giants such as Gillingham and Walsall.

Which of Gillinghams free transfers would you have signed in the summer then?
  • Max Ehmer
  • Brad Garmston
  • Josh Wright
  • Ryan Jackson
  • Ben Williamson
  • Rory Donnelly

What about Walsalls?
  • Milan Lalkovic
  • Neil Etheridge
  • Jason Demetriou
Both clubs have spent nothing this season. I have heard of about 3 players on that list.

Gillingham and Walsall are both playing very well. Neither will finish above us this season.

No, we got nearly £2mil apparently, where is it?
£2mil in this league can buy you a TEAM capable of promotion. We don't need that, we only need 2/3 players...

I challenge you. Include transfer fees, signing on fees, agent fees and wages. Name me that team.

I think that is called FIFA16 or something similar. There are loads of experts about (many on here). :)

they were keeping them on bigger wages in a higher league under contracr

we were in the reverse situation of holding them back from moving up and getting payed double at least
the motivation was there to go we held no aces
the ones we are trying to sign arent doubling their wages and moving up

hardly even a subtle difference
What's the obvious answer to that then?

Cherry pick the best from this league or lower.

What's your excuse for us being unable to sign those players?

Or are you just going to accept we have either:

A - Got no money.
B - Have the money but are chasing unrealistic targets.

Stop with your agendas, because one is contradicting the other.

I'm obviously only talking transfer fee's. Your wage budget is seperate...
Preston's team last season cost nothing in transfer fees.

But as been pointed our by me and others many times before, under FA accounting rules for football, you have to take into account the whole package. £2 million in transfer fees would be nearer £3 million before you start. So the challenge is still on ......

what do you MEAN where is it

probably only recieved half of it
no one pays in full

That’s alright then. We can buy now pay later just like clubs do with us. Or is this another one of those mystical forces that only works when it’s negatively affecting us? You know, like how other clubs are allowed to turn down bids but we’re not?

I stayed off here this weekend as well as the OP and I still have nothing useful to say, other than we are still favourites to win this league and rightly so. It is understandable that many fans are worried at this stage but there are so many facets to every season and nothing is more certain than certain teams racing away early season only to tail off, others stay in touch and gradually come through and even the odd team catapults from bottom half to Top 6 in the last few weeks.

Look at Scunthorpe, 4 games ago they were in the bottom 4. Since then they have won three on the bounce and are 12th and only 4 points behind us in 6th.

Fans need bottle as well as managers and players and they also need to stop talking shite, just because it makes them feel better when life turns out not to be a warm, happy fairy tale. Those fans who pester Phipps are a total embarrassment but it's bad enough when it's on here. Total shite.

How many of the squad would you realistically put into your £2m spend? Where are they now?
Does it matter? They got them promoted so that's point proven.

Despite the fact my point was never that, it was that on transfer fees alone £2mil is plenty to assemble a squad good enough for promotion.

But for your Yeovil I'll give you Peterborough. It may be enough but it doesn't guarantee.

he lost interest for 4 years admitted as much wanted out had enough abuse
but hes enthusiatic again now so hopefully be better especially as hes delegated out the football bits
luckily hes good at construction and making money which keeps us going
so long as hes there paying the bills hes fine
just keep him out of the football decisions

Jim intimated a while ago that it was just the Prince that was paying the bills. That may have changed.

Getting beat by them is well up there with the most embarrising things to have happened to us in the last 5 years, we barely managed a fucking shot in both games. Wonder how we'd have got on with 'great bit of business' Nick Blackman in the team? Who would have still had 2 years of his contract left after the game.
Imagine if we hadn't sold Nick Blackman. That's starting to look like one of the biggest bollocks dropped of them all. He is tearing the championship to shreds.

Or bowed to the mouthy minority and not sacked the manager

mccabes company has just got a billion quids worth of contracts from china for work in uk
hes a player and knows his bricks from his mortar

just not so hot on football matters

Meaning they spent some money?

We've spent "some" money.

MUFC spent 29% of the fee they received for Ronaldo that season. They sold more than just him too.

Let's say Murphy was sold for £1.5m, i'm not sure of the exact fee. We spent £500k on Sharp which is 33% of fees received. If we sold him for £2m - 25%

As has been pointed out about 10 million times, we're only favourite with the bookies due to who we are, just like we have been for the last 5 years!

Has absolutely nothing to do with our actual likelihood of being promoted!
