I'm a lifelong Blade ,in fact since 1956..... if VAR was at the Pigs -Luton match it would have been a different score ..that's certain . However I - MUCH - prefer no VAR 👍. The pen given against Wendy looked correct to me in the modern interpretation , the winning goal was an absolute nailed on hand ball...it rolled down his arm LOL.. We would be going mad I have to say . Still nice to enjoy a Sheffield Double :) ... no doubt we will be robbed at some point and to be fair I think Staton would say so .
As long as it is not against them.

Ah, but the stats show how clever they are and how much preparation they have done.

Sam Matteface is head and shoulders above the rest for this. Watching the Euros on ITV, you knew he had a 'big stat' coming, and boy oh boy, was he going to shoehorn it in.
My favourite Sam Matterface stat is that he used to enjoy bedroom fumbles with 1 x Natalie Sawyers but now has 0 x Natalie Sawyers.

"You were there Adam, weren't yer?" "You were there", "thought yer were Adam, "thought yer were" jeezzzzz!

Hi all, appreciate the comments and as always we will try to engage when our station comes up in conversation. Think we'll leave the biased stuff -- after all, I don't think we'll ever convince either side of Sheffield on that! 😄

However, onto the commentaries. When we are not commentating on Radio Sheffield at the Lane, we are still asked to provide home comms for the club (it's increasingly rare that we aren't commentating these days, given more and more games are being moved). In the past this has only been for audio but I believe the club now takes this feed for their stream too.

We do not have a summariser and it can be challenging to talk endlessly on a solo broadcast. Thus, we have in the past done some shout-outs on air. On Saturday, surprisingly we had more than we ever have done. Some people really appreciate it, especially Blades not able to be at the game, and it can help them feel part of it as an event. Others clearly don't feel that way, as expressed here. But this was typically used to just break things up with no summariser, that is all.

Hope this sheds some light. Congrats on three wins in a row 👍
Fair enough...sounds like it's not RS fault. It's the club using their stream instead of giving amateur commentators a go.
I turned the sound off on Saturday as the shout outs were a bit annoying.
I much prefer hearing Kevin Gage, Carl Asaba & Paul Walker...at least they're enthusiastic (especially Asaba) & I bet they don't charge much ?

Seems a bit strange that people are paying the same amount to watch the game on TV as they were in the PL, crowds are similar, yet the club has ditched its own commentary and is relying on comm for local radio, which is different to TV commentary.

Before the game on Saturday I watched a bit of the Derby feed (Rams TV) which had good build-up - analysis, interviews etc. Blades fans had to listen to the Radio Sheffield buildup, which was shared between all local clubs.

I know budgets are tight but surely SUFC could afford commentary dedicated to TV, or at least a summarizer, who can't be paid more than a couple of hundred quid. Should the fans have a whip-round?

Keep doing the good work. 👍

Maybe it was an elaborate plan by the EFL to get RS to collect the twitter names of 'Dave from Wickersley' & all the other UK based VPN illegal streamers ?
That list is probably now being passed on to the appropriate authorities ready to enact dawn raids to hand out huge fines & slaps on the wrist. 😔

Especially the one who said something along the lines of "streaming legally" from wherever he was

I’ve got mixed feelings about this .

I listened to Rob Staton’s commentary whilst watching the game via SUTV and found it to be well delivered , fair , accurate and well observed.

For instance , he quite rightly identified Souttar and Peck as being worthy of special praise and overall made a pretty good job of his role as a solo commentator .

However , the ‘shoutout’ thing which he actively encouraged for most of the game went from being mildly irritating at the start to that of being an absolutely infuriating distraction by the end , when he spent most of the time reading out these rather than doing the match commentary .

Lessons should be learned from this by those involved , one of them being that broadcasters should concentrate on the task they have been given rather than that of introducing gimmicky and unnecessary distractions .

Tbf, is Staton responsible for this shout out idea? I’m not sure how much free rein the presenters have. Perhaps he’s been told to do it?

Don’t think he is balanced, always seems to be pro United, he was bigging up our players tonight, he said both Arblaster and Peck could go on to be big PL players and it would take a huge fee for United to sell one of them.

He also said we’re currently playing like an auto promotion team and he doubts West Brom will last the pace.

He often seems to belittle Wednesday and slag off Chansiri. Last week he was slagging off Hillsboro saying that even their South stand won’t be fit for purpose in 30 years. He said SW have little option but to move stadium. He also regularly slags off the SW Academy whilst praising the SU Academy.

Many on Owlstalk called it Radio Sheffield United and think Staton is bias against them.
It may be balanced, but it's not great analysis. Why would WBA not last the pace (they've improved on last season where they finished 5th)? How can we be playing like an autos team when, for everything that's been good, we've actually created reasonably little in terms of quality chances compared to others in the league? And for all that I like Peck, there's no way - on current evidence of 1 Championship game and 2 cup games - anyone should include him in the same conversation as Arblaster.

I don't really care about bias if the analysis is correct. Problem is that many on RS don't seem to know what they're talking about, so it's just not that interesting.

On a slightly different note, what's happened to the sufc pre and post match stuff? Used to love that and now there's nothing of note?

I think there’s a fine line between filling in the silence, and endlessly talking about what Barry is doing in the Maldives, surely you could fill that time with how both teams have played, individual player performances or even how the league table looks?

Usually good commentary, no issues, but last time out I had to mute the commentary as the shout outs were more common than the football commentary.
