Could be interesting who plays in which games and for first time in a while it's not entirely predictable. Who you looking forward to/expecting to see? Personally think the change will be Donaldson in on Saturday and that's about It, but Bolton could see a couple more of the new lads in action.

Hope so and don't see why not.

I've got a very good feeling about Donaldson. Think he'll be fantastic for us.

Proper Wilder type player that lad.
I reckon so find it strange how some aren't impressed he's a tryer with reasonable quality and definitely better than what we have or at least another good option

Donaldson in for the Sunderland game, and that'll be it. I'm looking forward to seeing him, might be a short term signing but ultimately I think he's one of the few signings who will improve our starting 11. Also think he's a better partner for Sharp than anyone else we've got.

Yeah agree, Donaldson in for Lavery and leave the rest alone. Brooks, Hanson and Carruthers as the impact subs depending on the situation. CCV on the bench as well I reckon as it sounds like Henneghan will be brought into the squad later on.

I'd put Donaldson and Brooks in from the off for Duffy. Duffy is more than good enough but that extra bit of pace and willingness to get in the box from Brooks might help us get a first half goal or two, start on the front foot, we might not have a lot of possession if Sunderland are up for it.

I really hope that Donaldson starts on Saturday as he could be a perfect link up player with billy!!. He fits in perfectly with wilder's ethos!. I M O. I'll be there on Saturday. Utb

I hope he nets 2 along with Billy!
Would be lovely to stick 4 away, away from home, that would show the doubters our worth!!
I'm also hoping to see a bit of game time for CCV, hes supposed to be a quality player and with Steerman injured and super Jake not often filling 90mins this year, it would be nice to actually see what hes got, he could be our most important signing of the window!

Think Clayton starting would be a sensible shout - we clearly need something a bit different away from home and Donaldson offers that. He's also such a workhorse and I reckon he would be happy to play the supporting actor role for Sharp.

It might be an idea to start CCV at Bolton if they're still as 'agricultural' as they were last season.

This is how I would set up

...
Blackman
Baldock....CCV .Heneghan.... JOC
...................Basham....

Coutts .....Fleck .......Brooks

Joc can’t play full back, much better centrally. I think Wright has done enough to stay in the team, otherwise I think Bash in front of the back four is a good shout, although fleck does a decent job of this when he drops deeper.

Nice to have options, ey.

Can't drop ends Stevens, he's been fantastic for us..
Blackman
Basham wright JOC
Freeman coutts Fleck Stevens
Brooks
Sharp Donaldson
Although I think Duffy will start ahead of Brooks and Brooks will be the impact from the bench.

Very strange. Dropping Duffy and Stevens - 2 of our best performers last time out. Not dismissing your opinion but do you care to explain your thinking?

So you'd pair two rookies at CB never played together little football league experience tell me you're joking please
Leaving Freeman out and JOC at left back we'd get fucking hammered

I presume that's a piss take.
- playing a completely new system and going from a back 3 to a back 4
- bringing untried players in - Baldock, CCV and Heneghan
- playing players in unfamiliar positions - JOC, Basham, Coutts, Fleck and Brooks all out of their normal positions in that line up

I think you probably got the keeper and two strikers right though

Personally I think Wilder will keep Duffy in but might replace him with Carruthers if he needs more bite in front of coutts/fleck.

However, it might be that he starts with carruthers and Duffy and plays just one striker to start, although this would be unusual given that he's praised the midfield in the two previous away games

I think we're more likely to see the midfield and wing backs unchanged, but see some changes "in both boxes", so Back 3 and up front

Just the one change for Saturday.

Against Hoofiton, we'll need all the big guys we can get to counter their set piece threat. We might well see Big Ben start. He's match fit and has a reputation for winning everything in the air. It's possible we'll go with Leon and Clayton up front, again for the height and strength. CW is not afraid to change things around when we have three games in seven days.

Can't believe folk are advocating dropping Duffy - for me he's been very good since he came back in.

It's the Brooks obsession. They can't wait to gerriminatallcosts. I blame Junior Computer Manager.

Not a pisstake. Just because it's not familiar everyone freaks out, and that's where the problem is you end up playing the same way week in week out, along with the same weaknesses.

I believe that if Wilder tried it everyone would be surprised at how much better we play.

We're too open at the back atm.

CW is rightly never keen to change a winning side so only 2 likelihoods in my opinion. Firstly Donaldson comes in as a straight swap for Lavery. Secondly given we've lost both away games we set up for a point and go with one up front and bring Henegan or CCV in to play either a back four or keep three at the back with Bash moving into a defensive midfield position.

Like that spot on
Duffy/Brooks?

Be same as derby team other than Donaldson for Lavery.
However away from home I'd be tempted to chuck basham in midfield for a bit of solidarity

Its certainly unfamiliar, but its also changing the entire defence and midfield to accommodate a system which may or may not work.

You may indeed be correct, change the system to something which is defensively minded away from home, however, I think, because of the unfamiliarity that we have with the system, the players would struggle to adapt, especially as you’re also handing out 3 debuts in the team you presented.

I’m all for change if things don’t work, so perhaps bring in one of the two new centre halves and try something slightly different, Evolution not revolution.

Our home form has proved that we are fairly capable, even at the back, conceding 1 goal in 3 games.

I’d also urge caution, last season, albeit in a division lower against shite opposition, we played some of the best football of my (almost) 40 years, we played with a system which exploited the wing backs and scored freely.

This season has been different, chances are hard to come by, but I also agree with Wilder, we need to be better up top and at the back. I also think there is room for improvement in the midfield and certainly at wing backs, because both wingbacks have struggled. However, I don’t think it’s a red flag to say that the system is wrong. We are still creating chances, but not finishing them. We’re defending ok, but also making individual mistakes.

5 games into a 46 games season, its not the time to radically overhaul things. Personally I think a return to a back four would be a mistake, the players aren’t at the club to make it work. And ironically, the back four is more familiar to most of us on here than the back three.

Leon is suspended.

Same team for me - with the obvious Donaldson for Lavery.
He's fundamental to the way we play. His understanding with Coutts and Fleck improves them both and he links midfield and attack very well.

Sunderland are a nervous team with nervous fans. We don't want to sit back too much and invite them on. We need to get at them, close them down, make them make mistakes so the crowd gets on their back. Stick Brooksy on when they're tired.
