We have a few players in the squad who are wholly ineffective as subs and/or only decent from the start.

Donaldson - hardworking, quick, handful for defenders, helps the ball stick in the opposition third and scores goals when he starts. Hears the final whistle before he’s up to speed with the game when used as sub.

Lundstram - athletic, range of passing, confident, chips in with the odd goal when he starts. Looks lost, gives the ball away, clumsy challenges when used as sub.

Brooks/Duffy - nightmare for defenders to face for 70+ minutes, skill, technique, able to create for themselves and others when starting. Thrown on in desperation to singlehandedly save a game most times when used as sub (not really their fault). I suspect the same will be true of Holmes.

Donaldson and Lundstram may as well sit in the stands if they don’t start. Clarke and Sharp may work better as subs if one makes way for Donaldson, but we are really short of game changing substitutes, and that shows when we are chasing a game and changes make little difference. Aside from Brooks, the best impact subs we have on our books are Lavery and Thomas and the one thing the three have in common: pace. This I think is the basis of why we appear to have no plan B.

Few contenders for over reaction of the night tonight.

I’ve been thinking (and saying privately) this about Lundstram and Donaldson for weeks. I also thought Brooks was losing confidence in beating men before his illness because he was expected to make us a goal when we needed one in the last ten minutes of games.

I can’t recall a poor performance from Lundstram from the start or a good performance from Don as a sub, but happy to be corrected with examples (most home games and TV games, don’t go away).

Punk blade is right though. A team plays 4-5-1 and stifles our midfield.

What do we do to alter things? Nowt until 80th minute taking basham off, one of the spare men at the back.

We should have thrown bash into midfield way before that.

Too many times this season we've not had a Plan A. When we stick to Plan A theres no need for anything else.

On the night for some reason no one turned up. It was not some individuals causing it or a badly thought out tactic.
It was the entire team struck into fear. Was identical to one of our play off final no shows. To a man they bottled it . Half hearted tackles .never won a second ball abysmal passing . Every single player was affected. No matter what CW did they all caught it,it was like a negative virus

I’m gonna say it: Evans lovely passer of the ball but lazy , I’ve yet to see him put a shift in and when he’s running back to his own goal looks like he’s got concrete boots on and players go past him too easily.

Leonard should have been nowhere near a start after Lundstrams display on Tuesday. He looked completely lost and his body language was awful spent most of the time looking at the floor or sweeping the hair from his eyes.

Fleck was toss last night.

Stevens is not a wing back - he’s a steady left back in a back 4.
