Not too long ago these ‘pundits’ were saying the same when Leicester won the league and going back to when Nottingham Forest won the league, if it’s not a big spending previously won something team then it’s not newsworthy and Stan Collywobbles, Garth Crookes and Danny Mills are playing the percentage game where 1 or 2 promoted teams go straight back down, don’t forget they get it right as Norwich probably will get relegated and Aston Villa are sailing close to the wind. Easy money!

Degree of truth in what he's saying with clubs like Arsenal, Man U and Everton (with their spending) under-achieving.
That said Leicester and Wolves are obviously good sides and there's always room for a surprise package which this year is us.

Personal life[edit]
Collymore had a relationship with Ulrika Jonsson which ended after he punched her in The Auld Alliance bar in Paris on 9 June 1998 on the eve of the Scotland v Brazil opening football match at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.[37][38][39] Since talking in 1999 for the first time about his experience of depression,[40] he has supported the charity Depression Alliance.[41]

In 2004, Collymore was accused of taking part in dogging at Cannock Chase by an undercover News of the World reporter.[42] He lost his job at BBC Radio 5 Live over the incident.
Punched her in the auld alliance
Sounds painful

Well I can finally exhale as I’ve been holding my breath in anticipation of what he has to say..

He’s just coming for his little bit of attention as all faded old pros do..

Never understand why you'd bemoan competitiveness. Isn't that why everyone loves the Championship?

Personally I think football is shifting a bit. The difference in quality and skill of the majority of players is more equal now, apart from your world class players, so money and some names alone won't do it.

It's coming down to teamwork and set up. The right manager and ideas is now more important than the accounts, it's not just us either, well set up teams are punching in all divisions.

Pundits just don't like that all their mates at the "big 6" are now less relevant so they have to actually do some research when they go on TV, well you'd think they would and yet...

Anyone remember when the "Big 6" was the "Top 4"? City and Tottenham have only just rocked up really, Chelsea just a few years before them. Maybe it's time to add a couple on and have a ”mighty 9”.

He's just upset because he predicted us to do nothing, and his beloved Villa are getting dicked.
Shit insight from a top level journaliste
I sa who's predictions. Laughable. Villa who finished miles behind us and Norwich comfortably safe.

The Irish are allowed to support Liverpool. It's just one of those things

True they are, always baffled me that, why do they always seem to support Man Utd, L'pool, Arsenal, Celtic, Rangers ? Must be some common denominator.

They think it's a shit season if the big clubs aren't at the top. It's as simple as that. We all cheered as neutrals when Leicester won the league. It showed that even in the days of huge spending power, fairytales could still happen in the game. How did most of the pundits spin it? "Leicester took advantage of poor Liverpool, Man City , Arsenal and Man Utd teams". If the big clubs can't get their shit together it doesn't mean it's a poor league. It just means the big clubs aren't as good as people want them to be.
It was far from everyone on here saluting Leicester.
I thought it was great but there was resentment on here too.

I’m old enough to remember the ‘big six’ before there was a top four. That was in the days when match day income and STs were the main source of income so the big clubs were literally that; the ones with big stadiums.
The top four came about because of the changes to the champions league, becoming four clubs instead of one that qualified. The money the four clubs received almost guaranteed they could qualify again the following season. By the turn of the century it was just the same four teams, year on year.

I think two things have caused the change.
The money. Even small clubs get ridiculous money now, more than most other European clubs. So, once the traditional big clubs have had their pick of the very best players, the remainder tend to gravitate towards the PL.

The academies. Clubs are producing more good players than they need and this can come back and bite them on the arse. The best example is Trippier. Released by Man City, works his way to Spurs and is part of the team that knocks them out of the champions league. There are so many now, throughout the leagues, players from the big academies who’ve been coached to be good technical players.

So, as you say, the gap has closed and it’s not insurmountable any more. Finding players with technique is fairly straightforward, it’s about finding players with the right attitude and mental strength, then coaching them properly.

When a tv induced breakaway league was first mooted, that eventually brought the PL, the 'BIG 4' were Liverpool, Everton, Man United and Arsenal. Everton won the title twice in the 80s and got 45k every week at Goodison (prior to the Taylor Report).

These things change and only Manyoo, Liverpool and Arsenal have always been part of the 'Top 4' or 'Big 6' or other collective group. You are 100% correct that CL qualification counts for more than attendances, hence Chelsea are 'bigger' then Newcastle, although a few title wins when Abramovich spunked billions haven't done any harm.

In 15 years time it is quite feasible that another club could join the 'elite' after a few years of success and continued CL qualification. It is unlikely to be us, bit it's not impossible.

As I said, it was a big six and, in addition to those you mentioned, included Spurs and Villa, who were both big clubs in the 80s.

Can't ever remember Villa ever being considered as one of the big 4,5 or 6 clubs, I do acknowledge however that they are a big club

Comes from hundreds of years of integration , 2 historical port city’s, after Glasgow it has the strongest Irish ☘️ connection in the U.K. , over half the population claim some sort of history with the old sod , was known as the real capital of Ireland back in the day
Probably the reason so many fucking Liverpool fans over here

I enjoyed the fairy tale aspect of Leicester winning the league, but I’ll always have an issue with clubs that go into administration or get huge debts written off, Leicester and the Pigs for example. There’s a reason I’ll never shop in the Co-op again, and that’s because they’ve effectively gave Wednesday a present of £20 million. Fuck that.

The cooperative society that runs the retail business has nothing whatsoever to do with the Coop bank that wrote the pigs debt off.
when the bank was going under shops and employees many of them blades lost their jobs to raise money to keep the bank afloat. Refusing to shop there and slagging them off does nothing but rub salt in the wounds of those who lost their livelihood through no fault of their own.
if you’re going to spread defamatory propaganda check your facts first!

No emigration over the centuries , to other port city’s, hence why the affinity to Celtic and Liverpool
Not to forget both Hibs / Celtic and the two Hun clubs being set up by Irish immigrants
Nar mind Cahill now UK 🇬🇧 has got Brexit done
Ya can fuck out all those pesky immigrants now
Ohh and I did the reverse journey of Sheffield to Dublin ( where my Irish son follows Dem Blades )

Blade56 - I tried to send a PM to apologise, but apparently I can’t, so I’ll paste what I wrote below.

Thanks for your reply about the Co-op. I obviously touched a nerve, and I’m sincerely sorry - I will gladly shop again at the retail sites now that you’ve corrected me. I had assumed the bank and the retail were part of a related group of entities, so thanks for correcting me. Still wish Wednesday had been put into administration, but as you rightly say, that’s pathetic football rivalry when people who worked for the bank were losing their jobs.

To clarify, the bank that lent money to the pigs was part of the Co-Operative group and thus part of the same group that owns the retail chain. The bank is no longer part of the Co-operative group and hasn’t been since 2017 so you’re good to try their new range of vegan ready meals guilt free.

Thanks HB, yes it touches a nerve, my son (who’s a lifelong Blade and season ticket holder) works as a manager in the Coop retail arm get jibes about the Pig loan. Loads of the shops and staff were sold off to Mitchell’s retail and the staff jobs TUPIed over to a new employer. The retail was ravaged to provide funds for bailing out the bank and the Coop employees hate the finance arm and Coop Bank who (as BushBlade points out) we’re separated off after the cash grab.

I find that one of the delights of getting older (and some people have this from a much earlier age than me) is simply not giving a flying fuck about what cunts think of me.
Where’s the multi-like button, ffs?

Actually dublin, i chose those clubs because they are historically Britain's most successful clubs not because they have any specific Irish affiliation, it's only on reflection, that I recognised that, although the OF are obvious.

I was responding to a point made by roy that Colin Murray "gets" the " romance" of the English football league, and I pointed out that as a Liverpool fan without a geographical link to that place he doesn't " get" it that much, otherwise he could have perhaps chosen Tranmere for instance.
As for the Brexiteer dig, you can fuck that right off, as someone who spends half his life in France speaks French and has a French flag as his avatar I'd hardly be a little Englander now would I ?

Apologies if this is anywhere else, but it fucking wound me up. Just read his article in The Mirror bemoaning that the Premier League isn't what is was 20 years ago (which, surprise surprise is when he was still plying his trade I suppose).
I'll not ruin it if you can't wait to read Stans words of wisdom, but he finishes by saying (and I quote)
"Sheffield United are a decent team but they shouldn't be anywhere near the top five or six"
Yeah, thanks Stan. I wasn't aware doing well in the league wasn't allowed, so if I need to read insightful, clever football stuff I'll read somebody else from now on.
If I need to know about knocking women about,I'll look to you for advice eh?
Wanker...
Another one underestimating our achievement. Meh.
