He'll be on the door, collecting everyone's six quid

On a weekday afternoon in May 1982 I got in the South Stand unnoticed and climbed up the stairs to the roof, walked on the roof and got to the edge, looked down at the pitch. I got back down and went out of the stand unnoticed. Wouldnt happen nowadays!

Should think it wouldn't happen now, there'd be a steady flow of people chucking themselves off.

Back in 1972 Yorkshire played Warwickshire and somehow me and my mate ended up behind the sight screen in the old John Street stand. I have no re-call of how we got in there but we sat and watched Lance Gibbs twirling away. At Lunch (and Tea) we wandered about unhindered in the bowels of the stand visiting Board Room, offices the lot. Never saw another living soul. Certainly wouldn't happen now!

Managed a sneak in when they were fitting out the En Tout En Cas stand (or whatever it was called - its the fucking Kop, yeah?)

Saw Harry Bassett out in the car park and we spoke briefly how nice the ground was starting to look. Dead nice bloke.

Had another sneak in when they were relaying the pitch a few years ago after they'd built the BL extension. Every time I go in that ground I feel a sense of belonging and 'at home'.

Strangely, I was discussing with my nephew and every time we drive past the shit-tip on Penistone Road and I look at that shit stand with that shit writing on it I feel 'heeeeuuuuur!' and get this Kryptonite feeling. It's like looking on the bottom of your shoe and seeing dogshit firmly in place between the treads on your shoes.

JG is a top bloke and his tour and knowledge of our history are second to none. Would also recommend his articles in the program which have been made into a book "Folklores and Fables". Hopefully there'll be a volume two, three etc (ps: I'm not his agent).

Wen we were young me and my mate snuck into the Crucible when the snooker was on. We got into the costume department and both dressed up in oversize suits. We looked like mafia dons. We then hung around in the Green Room for a bit without being challenges, then went into the backstage area. We ended up behind this big world globe with the Embassy logo on it, by the stage between the seats where the players sit. I was all for going and getting an egg and lobbing it on the snooker table, then legging it.

To be fair on the FA Cup Tour got access to interesting memorabilia from the Khaki Cup - including opportunity to hold one of the winners medals.

Sadly the dressing room area is off limits when the tour takes place unless you are on the sponsors tour, but I've found that as the tour takes place around the time players are arriving that it's rare you don't get to see some of the players on their way in.

Tour of a football club not suitable for children?? Why, do you get a lapdance or summat?

Maybe John Garrett has Tourette's. Especially when you mention the name Megson.

Funny you should say that :)

I'd imagine it's down to the busy working areas that you walk through/look at.

We'll worth a trip to Legends and a walk through the tunnel with JG, get yourselves booked in :)

It's more just that there's a lot of standing and listening which some kids find difficult, certainly not all. It's mainly just setting it aside from the meet the players type tours. I've seen kids struggle, but also had a 7 year old coming up to me in the playground at school telling me all he remembered and how interesting it was that the 1915 team weren't allowed to smile for their photo. There are generally kids on it though...hence the lapdance segment of the tour has had to be scrapped for the foreseeable future.
