Stadium Development

Well the article innthe Star said expect to see the impact of the new owners straight away and mentioned the Kop and training ground. Would like to see the Kop done and also 2 or 3 thousand more seats wouldn’t go amiss.

But just a few posts up, you’ve talked about being relegated after building the SS and “spending others’ money”. I assume you were against McCabe developing the ground also?

There is a vast cost difference between filling in the 'Pukka pie corner' and rebuilding the South stand or the Kop.
McCabe showed his vision for the stadium by having the plans drawn and planning permission granted.
He lacked the funding to finance such, but had the dream that if we could gain long term PL status then the plan would become cost effective.

I have no objection to the stadium being redeveloped, but only when funds allow.

I sit on the Kop and the left hand pillar obscures many decisions by the linesman (person)
but I would not wish to pay £10/20 game more in order for the pillars to be removed, or wish to see the team suffer as a fiscal penalty.

I would demolish that bastardised abomination between the kop and John Street in a heartbeat. The architect 🤣 who came up with that should never have worked again. Huge swathes of seats in this corner stand are either restricted view or (believe it or not) no view at all.
When it was built, not all the seats that exist today were there. They were added later deliberately as restricted view seats. Every seat there had a decent view before this change.

Would people be against a smaller version of St James’ park having the south stand and kop as “one” obviously the kop would be 2 tiered which technically wouldn’t be a kop but I’ve always thought this could work at the Lane. Their ground is my second favourite after ours of course but I know some people hate the different heights of itIMG_3098.jpeg

Think Newcastle ground looks so lob sided as though it’s unfinished.

Much prefer the idea of having a large single tier Kop, think we’d lose something if it was changed to double tier.

Joining the Kop to the expanded South stand means half the stadium becomes a bowl style. Think it would look odd and unfinished.

Prefer the look of 1 large side stand like Man Utd used to have and currently at Leeds, Bristol City, Cardiff etc over Newcastles unfinished stadium.

Also the issue about these ideas depend so much on cost and return on investment.
An example might be is would you pay £200 million to have a 41K capacity stadium with a doubling of current corporate facilities or £400 million to have a 45K stadium and a quadrupling of corporate facilities.

Remember these days there’s a fashion for people to work from home. Not sure if people have conferences or training sessions at a venue anymore when it can be done via Teams at home.

I don’t think removing the pillars is a priority for the club, but if the kop was remodelled and extended it would be an obvious by-product of any major development of the lane’s biggest stand.

No need to move way. plenty of room behind Tony Currie Stand and the Kop to build .like Liverpool did. I would demolish the corner stand to curve the kop towards John street stand. I would not hold my breath will waiting for owt to happen.

Hopefully the Americans can make the changes that we want on the Kop. Same safe standing would be good too.

Definitely agree was just more a hypothetical idea haha! I’ve always loved St James’ Park since being a kid (even though I don’t really like Newcastle) and I personally hate the 1 big stand look haha! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that

Where as the South Stand and John Street are both from the ground up, purpose built constructions. The Kop on the other hand is still essentially a standing terrace with seats on it. McCabe always insisted it would be difficult marry it up to the two existing stands in any future development, but to me the kop has always been a blank canvas, and if you had the funds and the inclination…you could do anything you like with it.

Though in winter when we had strong Northerly gales blowing through 'the hole', it wasn't great sitting on the kop either.
Filling in the corners also makes the sound better, when the ground is in full voice.

Do you remember the ground before McCabe joined the board, it was like a third division stadium.
Vorpal Blade who used to post on here before being banned, presented his plan (he's an architect) for the John St stand. McCabe referred him to his architects Vorpal's plan/drawings had the stand to wrap around both corners but hey ho guess who decided on the far inferior design of his architects.

I think extending the kop and putting another tier on laver stand is a ceiling at 44k tbh even if we have a long stay in the top flight.

i dont think we need another tier on south stand its the kop that needs redeveloping with a 15k capacity that would take us to 37/38k thats enough

South stand with corporate is where the money is. In the premier league doubling if not more our income in the loan seats would help!

Thanks 😊 lot of "ifs" and "coulds" in that article, will see what happens. Just removing the pillars won't make it a decent kop though.

At a guess stadium improvements will more likely be superficial rather than extensive and possibly like under the PA regime, larger projects on the back burner

My hope is that at least the new training ground work commences

and also the most expensive seats in the stadium we need to cater more for our more less off fans kop is the cheapest seat in the stadium mind still too high on match day pricing for my liking £41 for cat a* is wrong imo
