I like our ground but that end of the kop with restricted viewing is stupid.

They need to get rid of that box thingy for tv guys. Couldn’t they have just stuck em in the office block.
It is more than likely that the club needs the TV pundit / commentary box on the corner of the kop in order to fulfil obligations to Sky so will be here to stay. The box on the corner of Bramall Lane / John Street is for the CCTV surveillance people monitoring the crowd.

Is the office block fully occupied? The club were on about using if weren’t they?

Unless it's used for overseas most live coverage is now either on the pitch, at the studio or another ground for the later game anyway! SUTV used it more.

Nope, it’s been shite. Other clubs of our size have extended stays in the top flight, actually win play off finals, get to Cup finals, occasionally play in Europe and have even won trophies.

We’re not Rotherham Utd, so let’s fuck off this mentality of being happy to settle for pathetic little crumbs of consolation prizes.

It’s been shite and our club should be aiming to do miles better. Some genuine investors rather than the tin pot jokers and bullshitters we’ve had to date wouldn’t go a miss either
Which teams? Burnley did great under Dyche and got to Europe. Any other club off the top of my head that i consider comparable has done something based on dodgy finances or rich owners - Leicester being an outlier, but then Portsmouth, Wigan all needed rich owner. Wolves have been bankrolled. Palace in fairness have sustained it, but their existence is pretty dull, win 10 games a season. Southampton i suppose have had cup final, won play offs.

Stand to be corrected but I dont see much else out there.

Aside from a handful of clubs, no one has won anything! Probably 75/80 teams not won anything for donkeys years, clubs much bigger than ours!!

Saying ‘they were bankrolled’ is utterly irrelevant.

Bankrolled or not, their fans saw success. Every club has an owner, ours have brought us nothing.

Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Swansea, Wigan, Southampton

Fulham have played most of the 21st century in the top flight and played in Europe. Even hull have played in Europe and got to a cup final recently.

Blackburn - a league title, Europe and a league cup win

Along with their time in the top flight Palace have got to a cup final and I wouldn’t mind one of their 3 play off final wins either. Don’t know about you but winning a big game and having a day in the sun this side of the rapture wouldn’t go a miss.

Birmingham city have won a league cup ffs. Them and Middlesbrough used to be THE teams that have never won anything. That came and went while Utd achieved fuck all.

Bolton had a decade in the top flight, often in the top half, got to a cup final and played in Europe.

The success Brighton have been having would transform our club.

Even putting aside leicesters league title and the fa cup win. Even before all that, in the last 30 years they’d won a play off final and two league cups.

Stoke city, ten years solid in the top flight, a cup final and played in Europe.

Wolves currently in a period of success.

West Brom had 14 out of 17 years in the prem

Forest still had European football and a league cup win in the 90s, a decade on from unimaginable success.

So my point still stands, for a club of our size, what the hell have we had in return for our incredible support?

I’ve been supporting the club for over 30 years, I love the club, but in terms of what I’d hoped to have seen from my club it’s been shite.

Hey bud.

We are one out 92 teams, dominated by six "top clubs" if you want to see your team win, swap teams! Jeez, what happened to Yorkshire grit?

Middlesbrough and Fulham have both been in European finals in the last 20 years. Bolton have drawn away at Bayern Munich.

I think if you’re expecting something “in return” for being a fan, incredible support or not, you’re probably misunderstanding the role of fans and the relationship between supporters and the club.

That’s not to say that it wouldn’t be nice to see some success, but we’re not “owed” anything just for supporting the club.

I didn’t say ‘owed’. I’m calling a spade a spade and pointing out how little the club has achieved compared to other clubs of our size

Name one other club of our size that has had an extended stay in the Premier league without a billionaire owner ?

Post #666 is a reply to the notion that only the top 6 clubs see any form of success over a period of decades.

Clubs our size achieve miles more.
Yes and then you proceeded to drag up ancient history.

Post number #666 and even then, I don’t care whether they’ve had a billionaire owner. It’s irrelevant

There’s clubs with wealthy owners who get absolutely nowhere btw, I’m on about what has been achieved on the pitch by clubs our size

This would suggest otherwise:

So my point still stands, for a club of our size, what the hell have we had in return for our incredible support?

“In return” is commonly taken to mean that some kind of transaction has taken place. Outside of the right to sit in the stadium and watch the game in return for paying for a ticket, or for a piece of merchandise in return for a fee, we can expect precisely nothing “in return” for our support, in exactly the same way as every other club in the country that isn’t owned by the fans.

Semantics I guess, owed for me would have connotations of being ‘morally’ owed something.

I’m more just comparing what success the club has had relative to the size of our club. It’s relating to the basic nature of a football club that a fan isn’t technically ‘owed’ the team winning even a single point in return for buying a match ticket.

But there is a context in which you look at what fans of clubs similar in size achieve over time. I am point out the fact that what has been produced on the pitch, over the last 30 odd years, has been poor for a club of our size.

This ‘oh but they had a sugar daddy’ deflection is a piss weak argument and utterly irrelevant. Every club gets wealthy owners, there’s even been clubs with big investment that haven’t achieved anything.

I can go back a lot further than you.
We had loads of success in our first 20 years ( I wasn't around but it shows in the history books) from there when money started to influence football we have done little! The problem being a club with directors who put cricket before football.
After the maximum wage was abolished we realised we had to change and with the directors at that time finally realising we couldn't be successful with a ground supporting two sports the south stand was built.
Relegation on completion of the stand left us bereft of money! For the next 50 years we have been up and down with the governing factor a lack of money with owners with no real ambition except staying alive.
We have tried once or twice to show ambition! unfortunately money again has been the problem plenty of clubs have been in our position just that there owners pumped real money in ( can't do that now with the rule regarding buying players tightened.).
Both us and pigs could have been up there with the elite! unfortunately sheffield is a poor city (financially) so far no real money person has come in to change what has gone before, could this be the one? If so they can't come in and change the situation overnight with the rules as they are ( toon in such a position as there owners could buy out the entire Premier league).
Would be great though knowing we aren't gonna fall foul of the financial rules and risk liquidation worse scenario.

Well if you caveat it by saying being bankrolled is irrelevant then it's hard to argue with you

If you take finances out of the debate then there isn't a debate left to have
Maybe you should support another team

I noticed many of the clubs mentioned are struggling to get themselves back to the Premier League. It's looking like you need a billionaire owner just to keep your head above water in the Championship these days nevermind the Premier League.

Not many of the clubs you mentioned did it over the last 20 or so years without significant funds being pumped into those clubs.

Irrelevant, and again, plenty of clubs have had money pumped in and got nowhere like QPR. Stoke in the last ten years have gone nowhere despite being owned by a company worth more than £8 billion.

They still saw some success in the decade before that would transform our club

That’s a ludicrous argument. Loads of clubs get external investment.

‘Maybe you should support another team’. Nah, maybe United could function better as a football club and not by penniless chancers (the Prince) and tinpot bullshitters (McCabe) for decades on end.

Christ what you gonna come out with next, ‘if you don’t like it why don’t you go support the other lot’

This little sheffielder mentality is tragic.

If you haven't enjoyed supporting United over the last decade or so ( that's your initial first post) then I'm afraid to Say that you never will as that's about as good as its got in my lifetime and I'm in my 50's

I’ve just spoken to a builder at Cherry Street/Shoreham Street and it’s going to be a Fanzone with big screen, booze, catering and toilets. The biggest job will be rebuilding the walls around it.
I hope it’s a proper one and not a Teemu Phoenix Nights one like the pigs have

We are now at a point where £50million doesn't even buy you a world class player anymore. The money thrown around by the clubs at the top of the Premier League make it harder then you factor in FFP where even if we get new owners we have a limited number of years where we can chuck some money about.

Its getting harder and you may have the odd moment where a Leicester win the Premier League or a Burnley qualify for Europe but they are fleeting and a lot of the time when smaller clubs do get into Europe it hurts their domestic league position.

Not saying we shouldn't have go at winning something, aiming to staying the PL if we have finances to do so but its not a straight forward path to success. Not helped when its clear the big Premier League clubs are edging closer to pulling up the ladder and fucking the rest of the Football League off.
