It makes no sense because the story in the star isn't 'Quinny to Swansea', it's 'Swansea might enquire about Quinny if they can't get Danns'.

If he has at least some market value, it made sense to extend his contract for a further year to avoid him leaving for nothing in June. Of course Blackwell may still see him having a role in the team in the future as well.
