All he needs is time 😂😂😂. 🤦♂️
43 professionals at the club was a statement made to justify the lack of activity for incoming signings whilst the squad was trimmed.
It's quite right they should trim the numbers of a bloated and untalented bunch of "honest, hard working professionals" but it would have been only fair and reasonable for them to produce at least a credible challenge on the automatic promo slots. Other clubs have done this with far fewer resources at their disposal.
Taking the summer (and most of the Autumn) to "assess the squad" - which NA admitted on radio, pre season, was not good enough for promotion at the outset was a clear indication of the way this season would pan out.
Maybe he thought that just adding Billy to the team would power us up the league with the goals required - maybe that's what happened at Scunthorpe?
We all shouted that two decent CB and a keeper were the key requirements and we all knew (even prior to the sale of Murphy) that the midfield was either too slow or too short for this division (and any above this one) but the mantra had already started.
So we find ourselves in 11th position on 42 points, with 17 left to play and by Adkins own admission we need to win 11 of those (a figure that corresponds to the number of wins from the preceding 29 fixtures) to get into the play off bun fight. That would be a minimum of 75 points but unless he can add some quality into this inept squad of players with at least two loans then he is going to fall well short of that total by the time the Summer starts her initial glow.
Still, it's not about the football, really, is it? That's all secondary. It just has to be.
It's far more about the family, the belonging and the social aspects of being a supporter of Sheffield United.
That, and beer.
