Squad numbers 2019/20

We seem to give a prominent squad number to a player who'll play zero part every season. Maybe it's just superstition...

Confirmation of Duffy's exit and a shit way for it to end for him.

21 would look lovely on Holgate. Or Matt Phillips.

What's the deal with Leon? No buyer so technically still in the squad, but no number? Same situation as Duff, just without the acrimony?

I mean, I know he won't have a hell in chance of playing but I want a Clarke PL shirt purely for comedy reasons.

So the numbers from last season have stayed the same then.. shocked with Lunny being 7 again if anything!

The year is 2064

John Lundstram has just fought off another set of pretenders for the number 7 shirt at Sheffield United
He's still playing 4 games a season, and the highlight of his career is still the fact he once tackled Jack Grealish. Reyt hard. In 2018.

Love to imagine that they’ve done it on purpose because it gets under the skin of some fans. Despite it meaning absolutely fuck all.

It's a number.

He was here and got the 7, why take it from him? It doesn't even matter. And maybe no-one else wanted it? Who would be the recipient? Norwood? Robinson? I don't like a striker with 7, and Norwood might like 16.

Egan is number 12, that's stranger.

At least we don't have any 43s or 66s

If Clarke and Duffy are still here and have to play they will get numbers, if we’re hoping if we’re hoping to sign another 2-3 players it makes no sense to include them in the 25 at this stage

I wonder if squad numbers have been released today rather than when the window has shut, i.e. Friday, to put pressure on Duffy to stop dicking around?

I wish very much Duffy had a number and Lundstram didn't.
On no planet ever is Lundstram worth keeping and Duffy binning.
He didn't kill anyone. Ffs put the needs of the team first. If anything heinous had gone on I'm sure it would have come out by now. I can't see anything good whatsoever in Duffy not contributing when his skills are needed.
Conversely I can't envisage a second when Lundstrams lack of them will be.

Really hope I eat my words but can't see it.

Can they be 25 in a squad but someone be number 88 for example? Or do they now have to be 1 - 25 now? 🤣

Also seen and thus confirmed you'd think

Who said Wilder wouldn't stand for first names on kits? The old gits will be furious haha

Ravs has always played with Ravel on his shirt. West Ham, Atlas, Ostersund etc.

Know he doesn't have good relationship with his dad, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Didn't see Mcburnie with no.9 earlier! 😍 did notice the numbers for Morrison, Mousset and Robinson though. A player with his first name on the shirt, we're officially in the big time 😂😂

I'm not even an old get and it pisses me off.

Only exceptions should be if you're under 10 or Brazilian. I think Morrison has issues with his dad like Dele Alli but it's still no excuse to not wear your last name on your shirt. Hell, Ryan Giggs was born Ryan Wilson but he hated his dad so much that he changed his last name to his mother's maiden name. He would have never thought of wearing "Ryan" on the back of his shirt.

Double-barrelled names also piss me off. Usually a sign of a broken home nowadays (although the Oxlade-Chamberlain parents are still together- maybe they thought going double-barrelled would add a sorely-needed touch of class to kids whose dad played for the pigs).

None of these things bother me in the slightest. To each their own though.

I think it looks childish and could very well lead to Prem players having Dazza or @overpaidenglishwonderkid69 on the back of their shirts.

Kun Aguero, Isco, Dele, Chicharito, Nani, Hulk. What ever. It's personally reasons, it's what they want.

I have a bigger issue with Rooney being sponsored to wear number 32 for 8 million quid

Only reason to take a number off a player is if you want him out the club, until we sign another midfielder Lundstram is needed in the squad.

Why unsettle and knock a player’s confidence over something as unimportant as a squad number?

3 slots to fill

Goalie
Chambers / Holgate
CM or Duffy if we can't get anyone in

Why does anyone give a shit about squad numbers? What does it matter?
