Team spirit. That was the reason we introduced the wage structure isn’t it? So we didn’t have players glancing over at the higher earners and thinking ‘fuck him’ with there being such disparity between their wages.

If squad harmony is the reason it’s still being implemented maybe it’s time we got real. Doesn’t seem like there’s much harmony or spirit right now, and there wasn’t in Portugal.

We apparently CAN afford the Hogans and Gallaghers of this world but the wage structure doesn’t allow us to pay what they want. Maybe it’s time we fucking did - because we’re in big trouble.

Pay the quality players what they want if we can afford it. If they want paying as much tell them to fucking earn it.

Personally don't think we can afford the players your after, not just a wage structure issue.

Why are we after them in the first place then if we can’t afford what they’re being paid? That would be the stupidest thing our management have ever done.

We probably can afford one player being paid £stupidK/week. We probably can't afford to increase the wages of everyone else who's on a decent wedge and certainly can't afford to piss off the core of the squad as an alternative

I think you may have read my earlier post saying exactly the same thing.

Wilder wants to create a form of “ Socialism” in the dressing room where we don’t have some players on lots more money than others. It doesn’t work. It can’t work. In football as in life. You sometimes have to pay top whack to get the cream and not worry about upsetting those below.

See above.
Well i assume we don't always know the wages the player is on until we enter negotiations, even then we may hope we can attract a player for a reasonable wage. e.g although only a rumour we may have gone, ok Joao is on 35k a week but only one year left on his contract. May take a reduction for a longer contract with options and regular football. Or with Waghorn maybe we could afford him before it became a bidding war.

Its more believable that we don't have the money then we do bu Wilder doesn't want to buy good players.

I don’t think Gallagher for example can command ‘stupid’ wages but I think he’d be our highest earner. Hogan certainly would.

Was it shane warne or Adam gilchrist that said team spirit is a myth. Its only talked about when the team winning. Im all for spending within your means but sometimes needs must

Yes,
Instead of pissing off one or two in our squad by signing players on bigger money than them, we've pissed them all off by continually paying them peanuts
We should know better than to try to ply our business in the Championship, Burton found out they couldn't do it, Doncaster, Barnsley Port Vale and Yeovil have all found out recently that they couldn't either. We should stick to what we're average at...…..League One

Not only that the maximum wage becomes the minimum wage in a short space of time and the dross end up earning the same as the top players. This harmony stuff is fucking nonsense and I said it ages ago. I also happen to think it's a smokescreen for selling the better players and then reading out the well worn script: couldn't match the wages, couldn't stand in his way etc etc.

Oh no mate. Don’t get me wrong. I think Wilder is top drawer and the best manager we’ve had in decades. But he’s a Sheffielder through and through isn’t he? Knows the price of everything and the value of nothing! “Arr Much?” “You godda be joking!!!”, that’s how it goes isn’t it?

He’s only known lower league where he can buy cheap and it’ll do nicely. He’s made silk purses out of sows ears. You can do that in Leagues 1 and 2. Easy!

But you can’t sustain that at Championship level when you’ve got clubs splurging millions around you after the same prize.

Bollocks to his “wage structure”. Get players in now and pay them a competitive wage or watch the club sink back to the abyss of the lower leagues. That’s the game we are in I’m afraid.

Seriously, don’t worry about who gets pissed off. I tell you what, imagine this scenario for a minute...

Imagine if we had the young TC in this squad now and we said to him, we aren’t going to pay you more than Basham! Would that work?

Time to wake up and smell the coffee Blades.

Yeah but unfortunately for you, your lot will be in L2 by then so you still won't have the opportunity to face your betters.

You want us to do a Sheffield Wednesday
Who will be paying for the massive increase in salaries? Doubt the fans will pay it?
No need to panic yet. It’s 2 games, if we won our 1st two games I wouldn’t be getting carried away that we’ll be promoted.

Sorry ,just realised you may want a realistic increase in budget not to massive proportions like at s6.

Give it 10 games and if nothing has changed and we’re in the bottom 3 then I agree, something radical should be considered.

Whatever the wage structure, if we don't find a decent striker from somewhere before the loan window shuts, we're going to struggle scoring enough

The biggest mistake was giving the likes of Sharp, Clarke and Basham extended contracts last year when the club was getting all giddy. These guys will be the highest earners and we'll be shelling out for them sitting on the bench for the next 2 years.

I'm not disagreeing that a wage structure based on everyone earning roughly the same won't work.

I just don't actually believe this is necessarily through choice.

Everyone's quick to point out the gaps in our squad, i don't think we could realistically fill these spots and still sign players on big wages, hence we have been signing more players on roughly the same wages.

I think the squad harmony line is to cover the lack of funds

Fair challenge mate and please allow me to respond.

I definitely do not want us to follow the same route as those morons over at S6. They have sold their souls to the devil, spending ridiculous money on average players at best. It will cripple their club.

What I want is exactly as you’ve said, a realistic increase in budget to allow us not to spend £10m on some average Joe but to compete at this level.

Wilder said the other day it wasn’t about the fee, but the wages. He termed it different to that but that was the gist of what he said. That’s where I’ve got a problem.

Wilder won’t break the wage structure for a special player or two. The reality is, he will have to if he wants to succeed from here on.

If he can’t manage that in the dressing room then he’s a poor manager as far as I’m concerned, because that’s part and parcel of the job!

Did Sir Matt Busby pay George Best more than some of the other Man Utd players?

Like Wilders on field tactics WRONG. start paying what they're worth to the club and manage the squad ya wimp. We are diminishing the squad, if it's owners fault walk don't take mccabes piece of silver.

I believe our wage structure is being made a scapegoat. This year's excuse for missing out on targets. We need a new one every year.

For Christ’s sake...this old chestnut again!!
Are you a friggin goldfish? Has this not been done to death already?

We are after those players and making audacious bids to have a subsidised wage by their parent clubs.
If you don’t ask you don’t get. Should we just assume those clubs won’t take our offers and not bother?
We tried, up to now we’ve failed. But so have any other club who might be interested. The time has arrived for them to move, time is running out if the want to play, so these bids may well end up being successful.

It’s teally not rocket science.

Wilder has set the wage structure around the budget he has from the owners. He’s the manager, he lives and dies by his decisions. So no whining and bleating by some muppet with no idea what they are in about, and no experience of pro football and it’s complexities is going to make the slightest bit of difference.
Get over it for the love of all that is holy, of go and support a club that doesn’t mind flouncing he rules...like Derby..or maybe the pigs.
They don’t seem to care about wage structures and budgets after all!!

what's the wage structure, only go for players what aren't on more money than sharp
