Hi Blades fans,

I've been reading some of the comments regarding the upcoming semi final with yourselves, and like most of you, I think they are way off the mark.and disrespectful.
You have got this far against the odds and deserve the right to be in the semi final. and I for one won't be taking this tie for granted.
Yes, it was the best draw for us, but that is because of the calibre of the other two left in it.

I think it's great what you have done in the cups and anyone who hates West Ham as much as we do deserves respect.
I loved it when you dumped them out of the cup.

Of course we should win over the two legs as we have assembled a very expensive squad and are littered with internationals.
But this is the cup and, as you have already proved, anything can happen.
I just hope our players don't have the same attitude as some fans and think we are already at Wembley, because we would get a surprise or two.

I will hopefully be at both games and look forward to our trip up there, I hope it's more successful than the last time I visited as we got humped 6-0 and I missed the last train home.

We don't all think this is a gimme, and you deserve more respect.

Good luck for the rest of the season, ( apart from the semi-final obviously ).
Where you from mate ?

Hello Lister,

Do you have any advice for travelling fans?

Where to park, train options - overground/underground, pubs to avoid, and friendly pubs with ale.

Really looking forward to this match and a chance to go to WHL, if I can get a ticket. Lot's of Spurs fans in my neck of the woods.

Hi Mate,

I'd say your best option would be to get to kings cross and then to seven sisters.
From there it's about. 15min walk.
I would steer clear of most pubs on the High Road especially the Brickmakers.

You probably wouldn't get in as most have doormen and they ask to see your ticket.

That walk up from Seven Sisters is pretty grim. My humble suggestion would be to take 20 minutes to get the tube round to Liverpool Street from St Pancras then jump on the train to either White Hart Lane of Northumberland Park.

It has certainly seen it's fair share of incident. But usually littered with police so I'd say it would be fine..

I would suggest going back this way as it will be tight for getting last train.

I don't mean its rough, I grew up in Enfield myself so I know that the walk from Seven Sisters to White Hart Lane is actually less dangerous than usual when there's a football crowd about. It's just a bit of a shit walk, boring, no pubs, so if Unitedites want a pint pre match I'd suggest the Liverpool Street route.

Yes, another way of putting this is Spurs have only won at the (proper) Lane once in 37 years but that was in the League Cup.

We've only won once at WHL (23 years ago) for the corresponding 6 league fixtures there. Our record is 1 win, 1 draw, 4 losses. The losses were all by at least a 2 goal margin.

Obviously, there would be high odds for us coming away with either a draw or win from the first leg.

I just hope we have something to play for in the second leg but I'm looking forward to it.

What's this obsession with the " proper lane " more than one ground can have lane in its name.

I'm not that bothered whether ours was the first the second or the 120th lane tbh.
It will change soon anyway.

Aye should be two good matches.

Last time Spurs were at Bramall Lane it was 2-1 to us (i think) and Jagielka put in the winning goal from the spot. :)

That game was Montgomery's finest hour (well, finest 90 minutes), and when the final whistle went we all believed that we would avoid the drop. Should have known better!

20/4/91 D2-2

That was my second game I watched at the Lane. I'd been really looking forward to seeing Lineker play - he was injured and Paul Walsh was a late replacement. I'd actually nearly become a Spurs fan the year before, but luckily my uncle stepped in and took me to the Villa game a few months before.

Was is this game where the roof had been taken off the Kop in preparation for its replacement with the all-seater?

I just hope United can keep the tie alive after the first leg, it would be a shame for our long long long long long suffering fans to reach the Semi Final only for the home leg to be a non event.

I was interviewed by Radio Sheffield on Bramall Lane after the match. I said "When Paul Weller was in The Jam he had the words Fire and Skill on his guitar. That's what we showed today"

I thought that was pretty good.

Very good. Those two words sum up our performance that day - bar the first 10 minutes or so when Spurs ripped us apart every time they came forward and could have had three.

We beat a very talented side that day. I honestly think that of all the teams to visit BDTBL that season only Manchester United looked better than them going forward. But their midfield didn't work too well. It was one of the few games where we actually achieved almost total midfield control.

The roof was fully removed just before the Norwich game at the end of the season

Thanks,

My feeling is that we will get a mullering at White Hart lane and the second leg wil be a bit of a pointless affair.

I'd have rather played at home first, and either sneaked a win or got a draw leaving you to try and get a result in front of a restless WHL crowd.

They are my feelings as well. I would have much preferred to have had the first leg at Bramall Lane. I fear a drubbing at White hart Lane. However, there's always hope I suppose, and by rights we should have been seen off at Villa Park, Craven Cottage and Upton Park, but we weren't.

Warnock and the groundstaff were very clever with the pitch that season. At times during the winter, it looked like a vegetable patch, which, when you are up against players like Spurs had in midfield, was a great leveller.

Fair assessment.
Your crowd certainly won't affect us as we've had some real hostile crowds to deal with in the past few seasons.

We have started to unlock stubborn defences of late, which is something we have badly suffered from recently. Eriksen and Kane are linking up well and will be the ones to watch.
Enjoy your evening down here but not too much.

Without doubt, Kane and Erikson are the key. Erikson is a lovely player and is very clever at playing between the "lines". Kane is just one of those gems that come along every now and then - glad he is English!

As a massive underdog we have to be extra vigilant with those 2 and hope that the mystique of Lamela doesn't shine and that "our" kyles (1 or 2) have lets feel sorry for the Blades night. Really hope the majority of spurs fans think we are a push over because if we get to HT at 0-0, they are going to start thinking about brown underpants for the replay.

As for the crowd, we aren't hostile - just noisy. Probably not as noisy as some of your Europa cup opponents - some of them didn't shut up for 90 minutes!

Really looking forward to it.

Spurs have spent millions on the infrastructure of there new training facilities which is leading the way in technology both on and off the field . Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy hopefully are not as trigger happy with sacking managers as in the past and do have a achievable vision to match there near neighbours Arsenal.

There scouting system is now second to none , and maybe will not underestimate us , although a number of players psychologically may already think it is a easy game to win over the two legs.

How much credit do we give to our own scouting system for our cup runs under the leadership of Mr Clough brother , who knows.

We keep setting the benchmark , we now have to surpass it , in both league and cup by promotion and Wembley.

Good players are good no matter what the state of the pitch. If you can only play on a carpet you aren't much of a player.

Tony Currie could play on a building site.

What's this obsession with the " proper lane " ....

It's about history mate... it's just about all we have now, and we fight to hang on to it. A significant club during the first 70 years of English football, almost a non-entity in the last 70 years. We like to remind people with an understandable lack of appreciation of that interesting early history as often as we can that we weren't always lower league fodder. And we do it especially when media types prattle on as if football started 25 years ago......

... we can get a bit boring with it at times, but we just don't want to be forgotten.

So we'll prattle on with things like... "first club involved in a game with a 6 figure attendance".... "first club to lose a Cup Final to a non-league team..." "first club to help a community create a new cake to commemorate its first Cup win by dutifully and generously losing to their team..."

Apparently all revolving around a game involving some club from north London...

Maybe we'll create some sort of history with them again one day, though I don't know when that'll be... :D

Kyle walker is a god send and a player I rate highly.
Kyle naughton is ok but no more. I was hoping he'd kick on but not the case ..
He'd be a decent player in a few premier league sides but not a top player.

Lots of Spurs fans know you won't be a push over so rest assured we will be treating you with the respect you deserve.

Mate,
If that's your history and tradition then cling on to it. The one thing with today's game is that all traditions and soul are being drained by the likes of Chelsea and Man City and their corrupt Millions, so what ever history you have then it's not a bad thing to keep it close by..

Sadly we have five or six League games to go before the Semi Final.
The club, players and manager will do all it can in the meantime to thoroughly piss off everybody that is looking forward to this game so that it becomes something we aren't looking forward to.
On Tuesday night after beating Southampton 33,000 people were going to pack into the Lane to scream blue murder at anyone that was put in front of us. It might not have been enough but at least it would be something to look forward to.
By the time the next few League games are out of the way and our CHEATS that wear our shirt have surrendered any hope of promotion no fucker will want to see what Tottenham are likely to do to us.
The real shame is that under these boring, unexciting, unexpected circumstances United are most likely to win

That kind of hysterical overreaction really belongs in the Shoutbox. Not the full version, could you possibly do a précis?

Spurs and Southampton are pretty similar. When on fire, a match for anyone. Just not on fire that often. Benteleb will be at the African Nations as will Adebayor. Just need Harry Kane to be suspended or injured. The Blades have every chance, even over two legs.

Regardless of what the players/managers say (;'We won't be underestimating...' blah, blah) Southampton thought they just had to turn up on Tuesday.

Anyway, any more games like today v. Walsall and our players should be well rested. :D

Really, and if we'd performed in our previous home games there would have been a damn sight more than 21,000 there the other night for a cup quarter final.
Only 17,000 of our own fans turned up because we are playing shit and nobody believed in a million years that we could win.

It's very likely that due to this pathetic run of results against Third Division opposition that shows a complete lack of discipline and desire within our players that only half our allocation for Spurs gets sold, we then get battered and there ends up being even less at the home leg that there was for the Southampton game or the Walsall game today.

Fans are turning up for the League games because most have season tickets, if it wasn't for that they wouldn't be coming.

Quite. Ironically, this is the main reason I want to get to the leg in London. Never managed to get to White Hart Lane. Such a famous old ground, and it ain't going to be around for long ...

Steady on lad. We can't play Southampton every week, unfortunately, and Walsall were a decent side who took their best chance well and competed honestly throughout the game.

Our Cup XI is a different kettle of fish. Louis Reed in midfield, JCR on the right wing and Murph on the left, and McNulty on the field from the very beginning, all in a battling 4-1-4-1 formation. Apart from not having Chris O'Grady in it, that's our best side in my opinion and I don't really understand why Nigel Clough keeps mucking about with it.

I don't have a season ticket, by the way. Still happy to turn up, though.
