Sponsored Sleep Out at the Lane

Whilst it's not really in the spirit of being homeless for the evening, there's a number of members signed up... Shall I see if we can't be sited in the same area with the powers that be?

Good idea Foxster, as I have injuries that are sometimes affected by cold, I had intended to ask if I could sleep in the concourse, but by all means ask and see what response comes back.

Threads merged :)

I think that's a great idea and if we all bring zippable sleeping bags we can fix them all together and have one big forum love in;). Shhush, don't tell Darren though or no one would get any sleep:eek:.

I registered for this a week or so ago and got a "no reply" email saying it would all go live, including the Just Giving website last Thursday. Heard nothing since. Has any one else registered and heard anything since? Am keen to get fundraising!

Wouldn't mind doing this but the chances of me getting any sleep at all are very slim and it's my 30th birthday on the Saturday so I'd rather not be falling asleep early in the afternoon!

Then what you ought to do WH is to sponsor me! If you send me a PM with the amount you wish to sponsor for I'll send you the relevant details. It's for an excellent cause and every penny will be put to good use.

Same goes for anyone else who can't make it but would like to contribute, just send me a PM, the amount you want to contribute as a sponsor and I'll send you the necessary details.

What a fantastic way to help a charity out, Homelessness really can hit any one, I'm a long time reader of the board but first time poster. I thought something like this needed sharing, if not to get people involved then to have pride in our club for having such a fantastic idea (may of been the charity's idea) But either way.. Good stuff.

I think it is a brilliant idea.
Top marks to the club ,
Proud to be a blade!

I wonder if any of out so called patron celebrities so happy to publicise themselves recently to give the club a kicking will use their fame to actually take part or even publicise this event?

Whilst not wanting to take anything away from IITB, I think it would be a good idea to pool any sponsorship from members of S24SU via Foxy, if he was agreeable. That way the site which has brought us all together could generate more publicity collectively.
Maybe S24SU sponsorship forms,
Just an idea Foxy!

The Blades and Sheffield United Community Foundation are excited to be hosting an event for up to 500 of Sheffield United’s toughest supporters, all in the name of charity.

We are asking you to register to experience sleeping rough for a night inside Bramall Lane. Swap your bed for a seat in row zzzzzz or cosied up in front of the stands. You might even sleep on the concourse for the night, all to raise money for two very important local charities.

The event is taking place on Friday 10th April from 8pm to 7am the following day. There will be entertainment, the opportunity to meet special guests from the sporting world and hot drinks to keep your warm!

Tell your friends, family and colleagues to donate and support you in your unique challenge, knowing that every penny you raise will help Roundabout, your local youth housing charity and St Wilfrid's Centre, to support those who need it most.
For more information, or to register for the event, please go to to: http://www.active.com/sheffield-southyorkshire/races/sleepout-united-2015

Hello! I'm new to this forum but have registered as I work for roundabout, one of the homeless charities which will be benefiting from Sleepout United. It's brilliant that you're up for getting involved and I'd like to clear up any confusion about sponsorship.

You can collect sponsorship through setting up a Just Giving page online for the SUFC community foundation (https://www.justgiving.com/sucf/) or you can request a paper sponsor form by emailing [email protected]. If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help!

Good Luck :)

Although I've posted here before, here's another to let you know I'm one of the guys who's taking part in the sleepout.

Unashamedly broadcasting the fact that if you're not participating, would you consider sponsoring myself for this worthwhile event? We've all passed people in the street who, through no fault of their own, have found themselves abandoned, or bereft of help. I'm a single guy, I live on my own, and I know only too well the thin lines that exist between someone like myself and those who have no home to return to, so please give generously to what is such a relevant and worthy cause. You'll be helping local homeless people, so your money won't have far to travel, so please sponsor me, it'll help someone and ease their existence on the street.

You can write to me via personal mail on here and specify the amount you'd like to contribute.

Thanks

There's an excellent book called "Stuart: A Life Backwards" which is an excellent read about homelessness, if anyone's interested.

I can recommend several other tomes as well, which tackle the subject. Some are easier to get hold of than others but if anyone is interested let me know.

Yeah I would be. Any recommendations would be great. Cheers.

No Fixed Abode: A Journey through Homelessness by Charlie Carroll

Autobiography of a super-tramp by WH Davies

The Grass Arena by John Healy

The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressell

Not strictly just about homelessness but I heartily recommend as they're by a friend and colleague of mine: Two Years by Stuart Cole and the follow-up, A Message to my Family.

Added all the names I knew about to the Just Giving page.

If we title it Sheepout United more members of this forum can take part.

How many of us are doing this? And will there be a "gathering" before hand to take on liquid refreshments in anticipation??
