I see a lot of players' contracts through work. I also deal with the battles with HMRC that arise as a result of them, agents fees and image rights being the biggest issues. Players very rarely pay an agent direct for contract negotiation (as opposed to commercial endorsements etc,) the clubs pay it (often giving the player a tax problem in the process because none of clubs, agents or players have a clue what they are doing).
