Following Kirk Douglas’ death, the ‘I am Spartacus’ clip has appeared on the TV numerous times.

Does anyone else recall Bramall Lanes ‘ I am Spartacus’ moment’? Playing Preston, late 90’s? We went 0-2 down after 20 minutes, got one back in the first half then went onto win 3-2.

late on in the first half, the ref pulled up injured and the senior linesman replaced him, he in turn being replaced by the 4th official.

Shortly after, there was a tannoy announcement asking “Is there a referee in the crowd?” There was a momentary silence whilst we digested this......

Then from the Kop a voice boomed out “ I am
A referee!” A second later, the same from the South Stand then John Street and within a few seconds 20,000 were following suit.

Also memorable in the same game, a decent following from Preston started singing “ can we play you every week” prematurely as it turned out, as it was of course, rammed back down their throats when we took the lead and went on to win.

Crikey, they must have had loud voices!

I remember us coming back from 2-0 down to beat Preston 3-2 just before NYE 2000, Paul Devlin played a blinder, but I can't remember that about the ref.

I think it was a 2-2 draw.

Preston were winning 0-2 at HT and then Peschisolido and Santos scored in the second half for us.

Some guy called Thomas James or something got a late winner. Loan from Blackburn I seem to remember? Never did much else.

Remember Mark rankine scoring a great diving header for pne before a classic comeback was capped by James Thomas's only contribution in a blades shirt. He was one of a list of next big thing loanees like Notman, Newby and Campbell who went on to achieve fuck all in the game. Don't remember the spartacus thing though.

James (Jamie?) Thomas.

I think it was David Healey's debut for Preston, having been signed from Manchester United. He scored one of Preston's goals.

There's something especially satisfying about coming back from 2 down to win. I remember seeing us do it away at Watford a few years later. Darius Henderson got both Watford's goals.

I wonder if there would have been a similar response if the tannoy announcer had asked if there was a Mr Peter Fyle in the ground...?

I know this is seriously going off topic but I made "The Internet" and took it to work and left it on the end of my desk, (our IT room did resemble theres a little bit cluttered but with less memorabilia) and it sat there for a week and no one said a word, flashing away, and then visitors started to notice it and eventually someone asked what it was and without looking up I said "its The Internet", and they went to go pick it up and I shouted dramatically "DON'T TOUCH IT OR THE INTERNET WILL GO OFF" and they quickly backed off and looked puzzled. Then the penny dropped. It was a brilliant moment oh how we laughed. Actually got a few people over it, mostly women, hmmmm. In fact I think its still in the garage, yes I keep The Internet in the garage.
