It’s clear he wants to come and it’s clear there’s a deal to be done and that wilder wants him.

If we lose out to another club it’s only the owners to blame for taking too long to complete the deal and letting others swoop in.

Fans need something to cling to in terms of our ability to sign quality players to impact the first team.

We seemed to get the Brooks deal concluded quickly didn’t we.

I think that Norwich got the deal sorted quickly. Every other club seem to not fuck about tire kicking.

Absolutely mate.
For all we know Brooks has been looking for an out for the last 6 months. Yes it was done early in the window and yes for most of us it came out of nowhere, but thats still no indication of how long negotiations have taken.

Needed to be done before SCR deadline, which is why we accepted such a low offer.

I think you have to take account of three major factors in our attempts to recruit players who are attractive to rival clubs :

1. It's obvious that our finances are very tight now that parachutes have gone , so we are bound to negotiate harder.

2. It's obvious that we are a club on the slide since 2021 , with ownership shenanigans - so there is bound to be a degree of hesitancy from the player's pov , if he thinks a club which is "on the rise" or - at least - more stable , might come in for him.

3. Fucking agents , the pond life scourge of modern football.

Within reason, of course any club can get a deal done quickly. Always a lot of context (contracts, interested parties, financial position, player motivation etc)

Ultimately, there are 3 parties (4 if we include an agent). We have complete influence over 1 of these.

Other club plays hardball over fee, you can make it happen quickly but you pay for the privilege. Same applies to player/agent on wages.

Like most decisions it’s a balance - but with budget stretched there will always be a need to negotiate, delay rather than pay a premium to rush things through. Extra million quid on Souttars fee? Thats a PL loan fee for the year.
