I think we should keep McEveley for another season, even if only as a squad player. Since Xmas he has been our best player (not saying much I know). Whilst he was poor yesterday, we shouldn't get rid on one performance. Also, we don't k ow who will be coming in over the summer, it isn't easy to build up a completely new squad. I think he should still have a role with us.

I agree that in general his performaces have been better, he still has a horror or two in him every game, be it a bad tackle, or a pass across the front of the box like Wednesday night.

However he's by no means captain material, not once I have I seen him motivating the team when we've gone behind, or giving instructions. He's head goes down and hides even more. I think that's been a major problem of season. Not a single leader out there. i don't think giving it Billy is the answer either, he's got enough on his plate dropping deeper for the ball and doing the jobs beyond his remit.

The main reason for him to be released is that over a 2 year spell he has for the most part not been good enough. It is not based on one poor game the other night. Over 2 seasons he has made so many errors and had so many poor performances. Sure he has been better since end of Nov time and had a good 3 months and been one of better players but that is not enough for an ageing player who would not be good enough for a side going for promotion. He will be on decent wages too; certainly for this level. Another player who has been a regular in a side not good enough (a la Basham, Collins etc). We have to take the opportunity to dump as many as we can.

As for the point about it not being easy to build a new squad; I dont agree. Charlton, Wigan and Wolves all did it fine. So it can be done. I fail to see an argument to keep many players. They are not going to improve and have not been good enough for 2 years thus we need to try new players. We also need to change the losing culture.
