Hmmnn. Since I'm driving I'm not sure I'll go as far as Leigh. Might have to risk a local one to the ground, pre game. Apaz there's a really good F&C shop nearby too.

Mrs Ken and I had a nice meal in The Mews, 2 Nelson Mews, Southend and there was some really nice ales on. That's an option

Trip Advisor mentions a Turkish grill house - sounds good, too

7 in our posse staying over on the Saturday not going to be much of a pub crawl :(

If you are coming from the West then surely Leigh is on the way (kind of). It's 3 miles from Roots Hall so not far.

Ah, but after a 2.5 hour drive, all I want to do is sit and sup, Ollie.
Hope you're well, mate :)

My mate is a Shrimper and for the second time this season I'll be sitting with the Southend fans. Not sure how that happened but please God we are not three zip down after 15 mins this time.
Leigh is lovely and the Crooked Billet Is a fine pub.

Unfortunately I have to work Sat so will miss out on the delights of Sarfend

Just in case anyone was planning a late day on Sunday (although I doubt it from the descriptions of Southend)?

Station staff who are union members are currently planning to strike from 18.00 this Sunday 8 January for 24 hours. If the strike action goes ahead, we expect Tube services to be severely reduced on Sunday evening and all day Monday 9 January.

We will run as many services as possible, but most Zone 1 Tube stations will be closed and there would be no service on either the Victoria or Waterloo & City lines. We will run additional bus and river services, but buses, roads and rail services are expected to be much busier than usual, particularly those bus routes serving major interchange stations.
Interchange stations
Although National Rail services would not be affected by the strike, there would be no Tube services from key interchange stations.
Travel to Heathrow
Piccadilly line services will run between Hammersmith and Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 and 3, but will not serve Terminals 4 or 5.
DLR services and travel to Canary Wharf
There may be changes to services towards Bank and trains may terminate at Shadwell or Tower Gateway. DLR services will be running to Canary Wharf but will be busier than usual. River services will also link central London and Canary Wharf.
For the latest information, please visit tfl.gov.uk/tube-strike. For real-time information, please follow @TfLTravelAlerts, @TfLTrafficNews or @TfLBusAlerts on Twitter.
Yours sincerely,

Bit of info from the "East Anglia Pub Company"

Local to Roots Hall we have three venues:

The Exchange
659 Southchurch Rd, Southend-On-Sea, Essex, SS1 2PW

The Trading Rooms
522 London Rd, Westcliff-On-Sea, Essex, SS0 9HS

The Hamlet Court
54 Hamlet Court Rd, Westcliff-On-Sea, Essex, SS0 7LP

We would be happy to offer Sheffield Utd fans 20% off their total food bill (when they show a valid ticket for tomorrow’s game) at any of the above venues.

Any advice on boozers round Liverpool Street? Going to get there for 1100hrs! Need a good away day before I head back to Eye Rack

I am heading for the Crooked Billet in Leigh hope to catch up with one or two of the gang for a beer at lunchtime.

Plan to sample a few sea crustaceans as well with some brown bread and butter. Hmmmm.

Safe trip to all.

The Magpie on New Street (straight across from the station is pretty good), as is the Wetherspoons on the station itself.

Driving down from Sheff & doing a bit of a straw poll due to indecisiveness - M1 or A1M

Nowt in it, I'm travelling down the A1, back the M1, just to confuse matters.
They are pretty much the same, mileage, and time wise.

Where are people drinking near the ground? Doesn't seem to be too much that nearby.

It's crap in the immediate vicinity, so we drank further afield and wandered towards the ground last time.

Are you in attendance tmw Hartley?

Yep, Sheff I will be there with the boy. Heading for the Crooked Billet in Leigh on Sea.

Sorry to miss your communication, and hope to catch up with you tomorrow. I have been playing chess this evening and managed to win my match against a formidable opponent.

I feel like a dog with two cocks at the moment and need to lie-down.
