There isn’t a single ball carrier of any note in that midfield. Arblaster is possibly the closest and since his injury it’s like he’s running through treacle. He may have to end up being a deep plying playmaker if he can’t recover properly.
 
I watched the pigs game before ours, really poor quality but at least they were running about and chasing going into the last five minutes even Barry Bannon at around 35-year-old.
 
I think we might need a scan to make sure they haven't put implants in his legs. He always looked good, until his feet didn't do what his brain told them to! GLTTL
 



A no brainer at the reported fee, although we were quoted way higher during his initial loan period. More fallout from the revolutionary transfer strategy of last year which has kicked the stool out from under us.
 
Im not saying Wilder wanted him but I also expect that the fee would be a problem for us, especially since we wouldn't know who would be going first. Maybe had we sold Hamer and Brookes very early doors we could have signed him. Having sold over twenty million of players let's bear in mind we've not spent anything on a transfer fee in return, other than paying Leicester's contract out for Choudhary. I assume that's what the fee was there. Either way, it's not a proper transfer fee like buying Soumare.

We need to re set financially. It's crap, it's meant this season is probably just treading water. But next season is expect more of a push to get amongst the better teams again.

I remember getting pelters at the time for saying he reminded of Vieira when he first joined Arsenal...

But hey, Rothwell, Reideweld and Phillips are the future.....
 
Based on this summers activity unless he was available on a free. We couldn't sign him anyway.
I thought he showed glimpses of quality but was largely gangley.

We committed to Rothwell last season and brought Riedeweld back this Summer. That showed us clearly the blueprint Wilder saw for our central midfield....

How much do you think the signing on/loan/agent fees have been for the likes of Phillips, Reidewald, Ayew etc… have been?

Free & loans aren’t free.

It was over 8 million euros for us. Which would’ve obviously priced us out and for that we’d need someone a bit more proven

Stoke ended up getting him for about 3 million euros though, when we didn’t take up the option.

We could’ve tried to re-negotiate and probably had first refusal if we were keen. We obviously weren’t fussed even at 3m and the player probably wasn’t that arsed either having been practically frozen out.
 
Some short memories or simply rewriting history. He was wank for the most part, although that could be mostly down to who his manager was. And we’re skint and can’t afford anyone. Why is anyone digging this up?

That's the key. Based on what we'd seen of him and what little we have to spend, he was a £3m gamble that didn't stack up.

It's not like Stoke are doing that much better than we are, either.
 



Funny how he was a promising player before joining us and doing well after he left us but not rated here.
The truth is though, from what we saw of him last year he was not worth the buyout clause and we had to turn him down. If we had agreed a deal of about 2-3 million then it would have been worth the risk/investment. Stoke have probably paid at the top end of his worth after last year with us
