We are just so slow in both thought and body. Rushed passes when no one near or passing backwards constantly. We seem to think we need a triangle of tippy tap round every opposition player to get a goal. Everything either telegraphed or done at a snails pace. Passing backwards to make space even though no one is chasing or being pulled out of position through doing it.

Coutts...not one forward pass. Enda and freeman...no attempt to beat a man. Basham...slow to react, busy pushing instead and heads it directly upwards for the goal. Duffy...only one with any get up and go. So glad, it's 4am in oz and I'm straight to bed.

We've just come out of league one after six shitty years
Do you expect us to play like Brazil?

We should have got a point had the linesman not been a complete arse , 1st half agreed we were not great,

2nd half thought we did well . sure we could do with more pace but against the league favourites ( who my god sky were sucking off through the entire commentary) I felt we did well

Onwards an upwards blad

Thought we did fine. Got put through the grinder last 20 minutes of the first half, & looked like we could be embarrassed. But then matched them second half, & made them look pretty ordinary tbh.

Good test for us, & we came through it (unlucky not to nick a point). Probably an much bigger test as things stand on Tuesday though, v. Big Nose's bullies..

Stay there, oz and bed

We drew away with the favourites. Can't ask for more other than better officials

There were 2 divisions between us this time last season, just how did you expect this to be any different?

We were off it first half, infact we put a lot of energy into it and worried we would really struggle in the last 20 minutes, but second half we looked more like it and thought we may pinch a goal, AND WE FUCKIN DID, running around my hotel room shouting like fuck, what a tosser the smarmy looking cunt of a linesman, in the bar now. Down in Nottingham for my birthday. UTB

I think Duffy made a huge difference. He came on and buzzed around, made himself available and tried to get us going forward. Didn't always work, but he seemed to gel the other players together.

I really don't think he's good enough for this division though, game in, game out. Neither is Carruthers. Or Brooks. We need to sign someone in that position.

Just shows the difference of opinion.
I that Basham was pushed only slightly but just enough to make him get under the ball.Blackman has to take more of the blame.
Duffy for me was terrible gave the ball away and sloppy passing.
Best United player Fleck for me.

Fair enough...long night with a fair few sherbets. Trust me, after only leaving UK in January I was there for those 6. I just feel we were bunched, overawed and lack any plan B. The little triangles and passing along the backline were perfect for league one but we have (so far) failed to address the real lack of pace in this window. Boro are streets ahead in terms of budget, depth and championship pedigree. All of these things I can accept. It is the failure to get up and at em which upsets me. Duffy looked our quickest player both last season and this (excl. possibly freeman) and yet we have failed to recruit a winger or forward with any pace whatsoever.

Anyways, end of whinge...once Fleck practices a few corners this week.

Have to bear in mind that Asombalonga cost Middlesbrough more than the cost of our entire squad.... Anyway, the OP is correct to point out our midfield, Duffy has to start as far as I'm concerned, he speeds everything up for us.

Agree with this we had some chances today on another day point gained plenty of positives today . I thought we had 1St 20 and the last 20 mins of game and that offside was as tight as McCabes arse.

FFS.
gestede probably earns more than our defence put together. Last season we were div1 and they were prem.
losing 1-0 at their place is no embarrassment, lots of teams will walk away with a spanking from there.
and to put things into perspective, we've played 2 teams that will probably be top 6, won one and lost one 1-0.
meanwhile our porcine neighbours have played 2 against possible relegation candidates and are still to win, with their £10mil striker still to register.
could be worse - could be a pig.

Thought we were just a bit too respectful and fearful of Boro. I always thought that if we had believed in ourselves a bit more they were a bit ragged at the back and I fancied us to cause em real problems.

Understandable why we were like that...but it was frustrating as I wanted us to really push up and have a go with 20 to play.

On the bright side, when we finally realise that we aren't playing in la ligue and that we are as good as anything elsee in that division, we will start to be a really competitive and dangerous team in that league. Genuinely there is nothing for Utd to fear. Boro are favourites and I'm disappointed to lose to em without having a right pop at em.

yes we were a bit slow in thought and movement. We tried to play how we did last year (with great success) - what we didn't plan for was how quickly Boro closed us down.

Lessons to learn and it won't have been lost on AK.

First 15 minutes I thought we looked decent tbf, what tonight did show however is we are lacking pace and someone to run in behind, Coutts and Fleck are as good as anyone on the ball but they need options in front of them that enable them to play forward otherwise there only option is to go sideways or backwards, As much as we may love him Billy just ain't gunna cut it at this level sub maybe but not from the off we need pace!!!!

THIS^
AND THEY HAVE SPENT MASSIVELY TOO I'm quite proud of my lads today, they only scored from an error. And we should have nicked a point. We lost but it doesn't feel like losing to Fleetwood did or Walsall last year does it!
