Some thoughts from last night

1. Sheffield Wednesday, deluded cunts
2. Kieran Dowell. He's still used to the PL style IMHO. He runs at what is a pressing, defensive midfield block and ends up nowhere, quickly. Against WBA, there wasn't quite that kind of pressing action in midfield and he had more impact. Duffy on the other hand runs at the block, lays off and receives or holds onto the ball and brings others into play. Dowell is slowly adapting, but I don't feel we have the bandwidth now to develop him and therefore Duffy is a starter for me.
3. Freeman. Grafter, there's no doubt. But he looks completely fucked 15 minutes in. Baldock has far more legs in him. The only thing Freeman has which Baldock hasn't is the ability to appear in the box and score, but this hasn't been happening quite as often as it should.
4. Pigs should be fined heavily for the objects thrown
5. The Pig Team played well in honesty, for a side which has talent but has not one original fucking idea amongst them.
6. We, on the other hand lacked the organisation out there. I don't know if this was down to 'the occasion' or just the pigs raising their game or simply shutting the game down. Probably a bit of all three. We have to be better than that. We were September last.
7. Whilst it might have been a novel idea to start Madine, I think McGoldrick would have been a far better foil for Sharp for 60 minutes then bring Madine on to mix up a clearly shit defence. Madine and Sharp were seemingly playing two different striking games at times and not connecting very well.
8. Norwood's crossing last night was superb
9. The scoreline flattered the pigs, even though we underperfomed.
10. The Cranie/Basham manouevre is crap. We went from a pointy midfield to a flat midfield and Basham offered nowt. He is best doing what he does now, and that is the flying centre back role.
11. Definitely two points dropped for me. Glad it wasn't three.

Bit harsh on Dowell I thought mate

Dowell running at the defence has been a major weapon of ours over the last few games, but he needs a runner with him because sooner or later he's got to release the ball. This runner is usually Freeman, Stevens, Basham or even O'Connell.

None of them got forward in attacking positions often enough because of our obsession with trying to get Madine to ruffle a few feathers in their defence.

Our overlapping wing backs and centre backs would have ruffled it big time if we'd played our normal game of pushing our opponents back with probing football instead of hitting it direct to Madine and it being headed out time after time.
We contributed to it being bitty and scrappy by playing a style we don't usually play

If we average 11 points every 5 games we will go up automatically

Point 7, everyone seems to be saying this now but forgetting we started with both of them v Wednesday in the home game and created very little. Our best chance, in my view, was crossing into Madine, because we have one of the best crossers in the league to do it (Norwood) and it meant we could avoid having to play it behind them, which is our usual game, but very difficult against banks of four. Wednesday played for a point last night, there's no doubt about that for me,

Point 11. It seems two points dropped, but come the end of the season, we might go up by one point. If we beat Rotherham and Brentford, its not been a bad weel. Leeds have a tough away game at Bristol and Reading at their place are fighting for their lives.

The answer could be yes, but if Leeds got 13 points from next 5 games, they would be 4 points clear of us with 6 games to go, therefore finishing above them is out of our hands.

its spitting, gerrum in
watching on sky looked horrendous , couple of the shots of the managers getting drenched , felt sorry for them
Ive refereed in concord park in downpours and just seeing the balls hard

we were never going to see silky skills , their pitch looked ok from the tv gantry level but close ups of the surface you saw what a pot holed mess it was
 
leeds have 2 difficult away games at bristol city and hull coming up
in 2 games time the landscape could look way different

if we beat rotherham saturday dinner time the pressures all on leeds at ashton gate
be nice if swansea put in a performance at norwich on friday night
like they managed against us , but generally theyve been indifferent away from home

Dowell, from what I have seen, picks the ball up and sets off, usually directly at the opposition defensive midfield setup (in whatever form it has) Now usually in the PL, the 'game' itself is moving at pace, usually with the attack, which opens up space and opportunity. If the defence or midfield stops to thwart the attack, it is quickly overloaded or beaten with pace. Liverpool do this exceptionally well, as do Spurs via Son too. In the Championship however, it's more about the press and counter, the opposition midfield stands its ground and players like Dowell face either one opposition player closely backed by another a few yards behind (therefore denying Dowell the opportunity to skip past the first using pace) or its two midfield/defenders bearing down on his advance closing off any advanceentirely. Duffy does this too, but he is canny enough to release the ball to either Fleck, Basham, Stevens or Norwood and carry on into space to receive the ball back and carry on the attack. Either that if the opposition is too much, he'll change direction and lay it off, but, crucially, possession is retained. Dowel tends to over egg the attack and lose it.

Dowell is still playing with his head in the PL. Whilst this isn't entirely bad, he needs to look at what Duffy does to retain possession (and therefore impetus) and adjust his game

I thought at the time their Desso was laid that it might not be the best. It was laid very quickly in about half the time ours took. Ours is probably used more but looks a lot better pitch.
 
Felt shit after the game as I thought we were average.
But I think CW decided there are 33 points left available. We probably need about 20-25, so the most important thing was to not loose and have our season derailed in the way bouncing day did to the pigs.
If we beat rovrum and Brentford, our run will be

What if we’d gone for it, lost, then gone on to loose or draw next 2 due to the hangover?

I know the most important 2 games are against them kunts, but if we go up it may upon reflection be a good point away from home

I know we don’t do it very often, so some allowance made, but it’s “lose” FFS! Not “loose”.

“Lose” is the opposite of winning.

“”Loose” is when things are slack.

(And “Kunt” begins with a curly “C”).

We’ve already played hull away. It’s bristol away Saturday & Reading away Tuesday
