2nd time I've read we deserved what we got over the past 5 weeks.

Firstly against a Bolton side that hardly attacked and scored with their only shot on target....

Secondly against a Villa side who hardly created anything apart from a moment of magic (familiar story).

In truth, we could have had 2/3 in that first half, there's no way we deserved nothing, even their assitant agrees and all pundits.

HOWEVER, that first 3/4 mins of the second half, Basham having a knicker fit every time he received the ball and the Evans dally really got their tails up. We still had the better chances secpnd half, but were nowhere near as dominant as the first.

Basham had a shocker that second half.

Taking off Evans was bizarre unless he was injured.

Duffy should always be no1 attacking midfielder, can't see why he didn't come on.

First half all over them, should have been in front. Second half they had the best of the chances and we couldn’t break down an excellent defence. Bit of quality won it for them.

I’m not too downhearted. Villa will get second spot on that showing.

We did deserve it. Its not unlucky to hit the bar from four yards and It's not unlucky to hit every other shot straight at their keeper. It's poor finishing. And it's also not unlucky to conceed when you show someone with great left foot on to said foot 20 yards out.

So by your methodology, you can have 90% of game, 100 chances to 1...but they had a better shot with their 1 so deserved it?

Don't talk shit.

But they converted their only real chance and we failed to convert numerous chances, all of which were easier to score than theirs. What has he said that’s incorrect?

If that’s true then I’m gutted we’re not a lot closer to the top.

Missed Duffy today. Not saying he should have started, but he should have come on as it was obvious we were lacking that final ball/moment of magic.

Disappointing as we deserved something from that at the very least. A missed opportunity.

Agreed should have put Duff on.

Who ever says we didn’t deserve owt from that game needs to take off the tinted spectacles. Their keeper pulled off some very good saves, one error on our part right at the end and it’s cost us. I’m sure many of us would have taken 7th at this point in the season.

Meh. First half was a really good game of football with us looking the better. Second half I thought was a bit dull from both sides. Both threatening to do something but rarely actually making a chance.

I still think the difference between us and the established Championship sides is that we have to work really hard to make a good chance for a goal, and they have players that can do something from nothing even when they aren't playing well. Happened again tonight. We work the ball out wide, have much more of the ball in their half, but we're too predictable, a bit too slow, and don't create enough. Villa are pretty much the same except one of their lads can put in a goal like that.

We're so close but not quite there right now. Have to start mixing up the attacking play. It can't always be out wide and then play four passes while hoping for the perfect crossing opportunity to materialise.

The big thing to remember is that Villa's spending has absolutely dwarfed our own. To be so close is to be far ahead of where we're supposed to be. It's just becoming frustrating at the moment that we aren't creating enough.

The issue for me when Duffy doesn’t play is that our wing backs become ineffective going forward. He’s always an option for the one two round the box. That being said as much as I like baldock his final ball is not the best

We’ve been conceding from that pocket of space outside our box all season, even during our great run pre-Coutts injury. The difference between then and now is that in the first third of the season we scored enough goals to win games and mask this defensive deficiency.

We created plenty opportunities tonight, but finished none of them. This is the difference, and this is what we need to fix.

Really? Good saves? Really?

I tend to agree with most of them comments to be fair but think you summed it up by saying that first half we could have been 2 or 3 up at half time and we could have and should have yes there keeper made some brilliant stops but need to start putting them away this is the massive difference between league 1 and championship in my opinion. Not overly disheartened about the result as I thought we was the better side and controlled most of the play just wish we could put our chances away when we get them. Think defence especially Stearman looked strong think if anyone Basham had a bit of a shocker and should have been took off even though they only really created that chance.

Did well in first half, especially first half an hour, then they came into it
Second half we did ok without fully getting going. They were very good at stopping us building up any momentum. Thought they targeted basham, every time he got the ball they really pressed.
Fleck looked knackered. Or missing his two pals.
Evans looked good
Be reyt.

Must be a string of coincidences these recent narrow home losses then.

Or, just a a lack of quality when needed. Duffy being our only real provider of that when in form.

Villa deserved that second half purely with that bit of class at the end. Not a whinge, we gave it a go, just not good enough when it counted. Just got to hope our efforts bare some fruit next time.
