One game, and we lost, yes very disapointing but it’s happened before and it will happen again. We aren’t going to win every game. Last season Fulham only got three points from their first four games and they didn’t do so badly did they?
All this talk about Wilder not knowing what he’s doing is just rubbish. He’ll know it wasn’t good enough and he’ll sort it, have a bit of faith for goodness sake and stop worrying.
I’m consoling myself with a nice bottle of Bordeaux right now to take the pain away and in the morning I’ll feel much worse as I wake up to a thick head and the realisation the we lost, but at the moment, I don’t care.
Come on Blades, we’re better than this.

Wrong team selection. Opening day nerves, maybe? Individual mistakes / bad decisions. Beaten by a decent team [much better than most of us expected] and a very good manager.

None of the above are unusual. We'll get over it and I expect Chris will have been given more food for thought re transfers. If we really haven't touched the Brooks money yet then now is the time to do it, pace up front and some more creativity would be very helpful.

In the meantime start with Evans/Fleck and Duffy in midfield ffs. It gives us the best chance of creating stuff for the lads up top. Woodburn is the ace in the hole and I fancy Sharp is out to prove a point this season so I would use him more than we did last time out.

I feel like I’m repeating myself across different threads here, but can we put to bed the inaccuracy that this is all over defeat in one game? Yes, we will lose games, but if we continually lose them by repeating the same mistakes (both individually and tactically) then it raises valid concerns.

Wrong team selection or wrong tactics? No pace while they had plenty. Long ball up to the forwards. No creativity from central midfield either.

True, today did display the same issues as the second half of last season; bad decision making in the final third, lack of concentration in defence and a susceptibility to pacey counter attacks.

Chris has tried to address some of these frailties in his transfer dealings but it won't happen overnight, even with some new players having a full pre season. His hands were tied financially to some extent last season but he has more cash now. We do lack a bit of pace and that needs addressing. He isn't someone who stands still and he will know what needs doing.

Granted, a bit of both but one kind of leads to another. That midfield trio today cannot replicate a trio with Fleck and Duffy pulling the strings. And as I have just posted above, yes we lack pace in general and that needs sorting.

I trust Chris will be all over this.

I do but he has to wake up, stop over analysing and go back to the no fear fuck em attitude.

Wouldn't disagree but I also recall a lot of people asking for better game management, even if it means preserving a point. That might have scraped us into 6th last season.

Personally, whoever we play, I just want Fleck and Duffy in the same midfield. Can't see any other combination at present that gives us a better chance of winning. The 3rd player picks himself when he is back fit so it's make do for the time being.

He picked the wrong team then said it was nothing to do with the team selection.

I don’t get his thought process sometimes. Why the fuck would you leave our most creative player on the bench until the 86th minute to fix the midfield that obviously wasn’t working the entire game? Then come out and say the team selection wasn’t the problem. Yes it fucking was.

It's well worth pointing out that Swansea are a decent team who, on that showing, will do well this season.

And that first games are often very random and meaningless.

But our remaining signings will decide our season. As we are, we're utterly mediocre.

I'd like to see Duffy or Woodburn start and have us go back to the attitude of attack before anything else. Still, I don't expect us to be better than Swansea and it might be that I'm in a really good mood but I'm still happy to see Sheffield United pass the ball into the net like we did today and return to being an established Championship team.

I've seen worse starts to a season, and that's just under Wilder.

Not the result, more the performance was disappointing showcasing all the same faults from the second half of last season.

What was so unlike us was our total inability to work the keeper . When we lost games last season it was down to us squandering lots of opportunities. We never really had a shot till the 59th minute yesterday. A system built on movement and offering options was showcased by our goal. But it was the only time we got into our rythym. Most will blame players they don't like .Lundstram Stevens etc but not one was exempt from poor touches and wayward distribution

But it must happen overnight! It must! It must!

Some utter over reaction, but such is the way of following football these days.

As of this morning we have won 8 out of our last 30 games. Sorry, that’s concerning. Ain’t no other way you can dress it up.

So the summer break, the new players, the time to get fit and reflect and plan? That means nothing and so we should gnashing teeth, biting nails and panicking?

First game of the season.

8 from 30 and a first day performance exactly the same as so many others during that bad run. I agree, the summer break, new players etc. should have changed something. You need to ask yourself why everything still looks the same.

And I will. But I would be a fool to do so on the basis of the first game of the season.

You can discuss our downfalls yesterday because we lost from being 1-0 up, it’s natural. Wilder didn’t start our main link up man, made some shite subs at wrong times and the football we played other than the goal went back to being bassettesque. We made Swansea look good in the second half after them being atrocious in the first half and we barely mustered a shot at goal, we were fucking shite. Don’t put the blinkers on and gloss over that performance, Wilder has a lot to answer too after that bag of shit he served up.

D:ream springs to mind.

Wilder went safe yesterday and with no Duffy and relying on 3 more defensive centre mids then the wing backs were probably the best option ad neither of those two ar ex wingers, although Baldock did really well for the goal. I expect a different United to line up for the QPR game with hopefully a new attacking mid and centre forward.

we weren’t beaten by a better team they were powder puff .. this time last season we’d have murdered them .. fans are getting nervous and unlike you some of care deeply that we lost and that there is a pattern forming.. we want to know why

players who aren’t liked don’t get that label at random.. it’s because they fuck up on a regular basis and the fans identify the weakness

We desparately lack pace and movement, we sold our only jot of it to Bournemouth for a less than acceptable fee.

Apart from one or two eye-opening comments directed towards Wilder, I think the reaction yesterday was a carry-over from the second half of last season.

I'll hold my hands up and say I'm a lot calmer about it today than last night, but I think many of us saw a team and manager making the same mistakes as last season. We understood the financial limitations during the JTW and accepted that there's only so much you can do with limited funds. However, we've been told there's much more money this summer but then see we're no better and have not addressed any of the basic flaws is slightly sobering.

Sure, it's the first game, but if recruitment stopped now I think there will be a lot more similar Saturday nights. Whatever the result on Tuesday, our season rest on what we can do before the end of the transfer window and then the end of the loan window.
