SOD "not part of the process of Sheffield United selecting a new manager"

Thanks. I saw this one but didn't see the details from SOD. Guess we can close this now.

Well I'll be delighted if it's Adams. 3 clubs promoted and I'll be really happy if we play anything like what I've seen of Port Vale. What's more, unlike SOD he'd be honoured to be here, rather than having a nose bleed at the prospect.

Here's hoping.

It's all a bit confusing with Adams. His Fulham team played good football and he looked like a top manager in the making. He later became Dinosaur Bassett's assistant (twice!) and hoofed with the best of them.

I haven't seen Port Vale: Please, AlcoBlade, give me some hope. Do they actually pass the ball a bit before punting it the length of the pitch?

Merry Christmas to all fellow Blades.

I think Adams' most high profile role was the Leicester job and typically with Basset, was associated with route 1.

I was impressed when Port Vale dicked us at BDTBL. I've read quite a few reports about them playing nice football, and Vale fans seem 100% united in their desperation to keep him. We've never experienced such support for a manager, even when Warnock took us to the premier.

He's been promoted with 3 different teams. He's riding high again with fuck all to spend. He knows the pool that we'll be fishing in. He'll definitely be passionate about the job.

There are lots of reasons for us to be pleased if we appoint Micky Adams. I think 2 decades of red meat have clouded our judgement into believing the only alternative path is total football.

After reading what SOD has said I can't see were he has come outand said he has turned down the Blades offer.
He did say that he is not part of the selection process at Sheffield United which is true .Birch and Co. run the selection process.
Face to face interviews of candidates start on monday.

Everybody keeps talking about lovely totat football, but for me the idea of the game is to get the ball in the back of the net, and im not bothered how we do it TBH. Remember when we had Deono, Agana, Bryson, Booker and all. Every time we went forward we looked like scoring - exciting football.Ok it might have been long ball stuff but it was entertaing, and before somebody shouts Harris, Currie, Woodward, we never won a thing or even saw a cup semi final.

After 40 or 50 years you'll have had enough of it. Take it from me and the 5000 missing fans.

If we want to keep a decent wage bill we need more fans attending, you aren't going to attract fans with the crap football we've been serving up over the past few years.
Also what is the point of the academy producing technical youngsters if we are just going to lump it?
With a decent manager, playing decent football we should move up the table (medium term) attracting bigger crowds, bigger wage bills and better players.

Changing our style is win/win for me and my objection to Adams would be that he isn't proven at this level and hasn't a record of playing attractive football, whereas SoD has.

Regarding these latest comments to the press, none of them have come from United. All the SoD stuff is coming from Donny, and Port Vale announced that we have been granted permission to talk to Adams.
From the outside it looks like we are getting everyone on our shortlist in and we are going to interview them all before making a decision and then talking to the press.
It would seem that Mr Birch has a preferred candidate in SoD, but you still talk to everyone and then make the final decision.
Personally it seems like we are going about it all in a professional and efficient manner with very little being leaked out of the club.

Ive had 40 years of it, but i still enjoy the matchday experience with my mates, when that goes, i will too, until that day comes i will get wrapped up go to the pub, meet the lads and follow the blades. As for the missing 5000, there has always been a better atmosphere without the hangers on who only turn out for the big games.

You obviously know nothing worth knowing about football or United if you think the 5,000 were hangers-on who only turn out for big games.

Why do we have to have a big wage bill to attract good football. Comments like this prove why the game is going to the dogs.

I trust you have asked them all personally then. Or is this another one of those satistics that are, well, made up?

Did you ask them all personally too? There really was fuck all on telly last night if it's true.

I've no actual proof as to why the crowd figures are down, but I think, and I don't know this for sure but I reckon it's a good guess, that it's down to one or the other or a combination of factors. Economics, climate, and us being generally what is known as "rubbish" are all factors. Just a guess though, I've not gone and asked all 5,000 like Pinchy and lenners have.

Not all fans who are questioning our style are hangers on, they just object to paying more money for not being entertained.
As prices increase (well done to SUFC for keeping them down so long), fans want something for their money. The board finally seems to have seen the light that playing good football attracts fans to the match. I just hope they can attract the man who will bring this about and there is no point in the academy if we are just going to play direct football. We can pick up limited footballers easily from the lower leagues so why have the academy? If Adams is appointed I will be massively sceptical initially because he hasn't played that way before and I'd like to know why appoint him and not someone like Eddie Howe.

and comments like that show you've not read the post properly.
Either that or you mean "Why do we have to have a big wage bill to attract good footballers" in which case you think the game has gone to the dogs because the better players want more money. I would say it has always been that way, but you are wasting the work of the academy if we are just going to play it long. What is the point of our youngsters playing it on the ground and producing good technical players? We may as well disband it and save the money.

You obviously know nothing worth knowing about football or United if you think the 5,000 were hangers-on who only turn out for big games.

Thats right, just ask the 14000 die hards that followed Newcastle United not so many years ago. For the record i have played football all my life and even had a trial for the blades (Mr Haslam obviously didnt like what he saw!) so i like to think i know my football Mr Lenners (and the facts)

Exactly right Bob: every word.

This next appointment is the most important for many a year. The offer is Proper Football - Hoof or no Hoof?

Thank you Mr. Banker but No Hoof.

Aye I just hope we can sell the club to these managers. SoD may turn us down, c'est la vie and if that is the case I wouldn't grumble about the board, but they have to appoint the next best main to have these aims to change the ethos of the club. If not then why sack Blackwell, his "style" was successful at keeping us in this league, but we wanted (quite rightly in my mind) something more.

Thanks for inadvertently proving my point Shoreham.

You could hear a pin drop at the play-off game against Forest!

Low Crowds - That's what we want. How could we be so blind? I'll let Mr. Birch know.

I'm afraid you know absolutely nothing if you think the 5,000 were big match hangers on, absolutely nothing.
Long-standing fans on this forum had had enough, long-standing season ticket holders I know had had enough.
You need to wake up son.

Thanks for inadvertently proving my point Shoreham.

Eh? All I asked was, well, did you ask them? You didn't ask me, but then again you don't need to, because I go. My brother doesn't go much, but that's mainly because he works shifts dispensing justice to the unwashed of Rotherham. Besides, he says he's not going to take a day off to watch "that fucking shower of cunts".:D

And I've had 40 yrs of it too and I agree with every word of yours I've read today.

5000 missing fans is a myth, and is only a hangover from our recent flirtations with the premiership.

We never had regular crowds of over 25,000 in the 70s and 80's but the atmosphere and match day experience was much better because the fans were all fans and not moaners, whingers and "spoilt brat must have it now glory seekers" like most who post regularly on this board.

"Do you know all 5,000 Grandad? Do you? Do you? Do you? You do, don't you Grandad. You old people are great, you know everything about everything. Tell me about the war Grandad. How many Germans did you kill? I bet it was lots. Did you meet Churchill? I bet you did, you know everyone. You're ace Grandad. You've been everywhere haven't you Grandad? I bet you've even ben to the United AGM, haven't you Grandad? Grandad? GRANDAD?"

"Come on now son, Grandad needs his colostomy bag changing again. It's full. And stop asking him about the war. He was a cuckoo clock winder in Switzerland. Your Granny didn't see him for years, he loved to wind stuff up so much....."

Blackwell would have been in a job if he had not been a bullshiter and actually a little bit likeable. He had small man syndrome and had a problem with everyone. He should be above blaming the fans then. I know some on here think they can't trust KM, but I couldn't trust a word Blackwell says either. His purchases were quite puzzling and tactics even more so. If we had the Blackwell we 1st got who was attacking and brave we might have got somewhere by now, but he turned it shit. We actually played some decent football every one in ten games. Preston Semi Final, Burnley Final, Night and Day. TB and KM need to find a man with cajones and the fans will come back

Lordy, is it a day release over Christmas thing?
The season ticket holders who had been going for 20 years were presumably just mythical figures - along with the 30,000plus crowds in the 70s.
Fans who've watched United hundreds of times and travelled to grounds all over the country are 'spoilt brat glory seekers?'
You need to get back to the meds son.

I have no issues with the points you make, except that I think Adams is more proven at Championship level than SOD. He got Leicester promoted to the Premiership after going into administration and has managed in the Premiership.

On the subject of SOD, who I think would be a good move us, most Bournemouth fans rate Eddie Howe a lot higher than SOD and think his teams play better football - seen him mentioned with us on several forums.

Here you go then.

What the hell kind of cheap sherry are you on?:D

Anyway, must dash, I'm going to watch Sheffield United play today. What are you going to do?
