But the ground has to be in use the whole lifetime possible as a league ground. Or a non league club who got in the league now could claim it
What little rule book have you pulled that out of? Total nonsense. We are claiming oldest ground* despite the fact that we are not as old as the ground, nor has the ground been used for its whole lifetime as a league ground, as you insist.

* although I'm saying we can't.

We are claiming oldest Professional football ground a claim only clubs in the original 2 divisions can claim. Surely by logic it has to be one of the original members of the league.
The first 2 divisions were chosen by lot so any of those 2 division are the oldest Professional as they were the first it can't be a club not a professional club till 1831

But a ground isn't professional, the club is. You're taking the current professional status of the club and projecting it back beyond the time that a professional club played at the Lane to get the "oldest" in. Wolves have been at Molineaux since summer of 1889, they were already fully professional. Our first signing was in August 1889. Our first match was 7th Sept, same as Wolves' first match at Molineaux. The ground isn't as old as Bramall Lane if you add the time the Lane was used for non-professional clubs. So what you are doing is the same that Mansfield are doing.
It's all jiggery pokery to get to a phrase we can proclaim as "something something something oldest".

Field Mill = oldest ground
Bramal Lane = oldest stadium
Hope this sorts the question out as a ground and a stadium are 2 differnt things. That's why Gary Sinclair say 'oldest stadium' And all the historical infomation states 'Stadium'.

If we’re limiting it then to just the stadium rather than the ground, aren’t we entering Trigger’s Broom territory with this claim?

Stadium is just the new word for ground anyway. A football ground always suggest some form of stand for spectators. Otherwise it's just a pitch.

Maidenhead United were formed in 1870 and have been playing at York Road, Maidenhead since 1871 making that the oldest ground in the world that has been in continual use by the same club.
