"McCabe hasnt made the money he has by being a crap businessman."

This could be the nub of it all really. Ever thought that he is running the club just as that, a successful businessman? Loaning the club money at points over base rate and taking it back to ease cashflow in associated enterprises? Makes good business sense.

All his recent decisions are no way going to leave him in any financial distress. The accountants are happy(ish), football's pretty dire though.

Seems to be a growing consensus that the (lack of) style of play isn't going to be tolerated anymore. The result doesn't appear to be the be-all-end-all, we're not even happy when we win if the game wasn't entertaining.

From my perspective, I'd love for us to play a passing game with pace. It can be done and on budgets much lower than ours to boot. I'd even forsake the play-offs this season, not just because I couldn't stomach it again so soon after the last kick in the bollocks, but I'd accept writing off the season in adapting a new style of play with the aim of actually entertaining the fans rather than getting results as a means to an end.

I think Blackwell has the best of intentions, but his team is shit to watch and a new psychology is needed.

I'm becoming very apathetic to the situation now. The inconsistent results amaze me, beating Reading 3-0 and then losing to Watford 3-0. It isn't the losing that bothers me, I'm used to it, I'm a blade! It is the manner of the performances and the inability to pass the ball, but like I say, apathy reigns.

>Did that once this season and we got absolutely slated for it
exactly.. kb didn't like that did he?
i'm not interested in monty as athlete.. marathon runner.. superhero.. he is supposed to be a footballer not a dog chasing a stick.. he works hard you say.. YES ATTEMPTING TO WIN BACK THE BALL HE HAS JUST LOST!

Anything to add to that NorthYorks??

Not really I'm still laughing at Brownies comment about 'cottaging' Huby's never seen anything like it. Btw that hairdresser's car goes down well there too. PS First time I've agreed with something BM has said shocker!

The Matilda shuts and Big Mary leaves town. Work it out for yourself...

Hum... loudly.

I can fully understand where people who decide enough is enough are coming from. Fair play to them.

It's the people who continue to go but do nothing but complain about it that I don't get :)

It's like an abusive relationship.
You are very wrong. United are OUR club. Not McCabe's or Blacko's or Monty's. Why should I admit defeat after 50 years and silently leave it to those who are dragging the club down?

Do not underestimate the power of public opinion. It has brought down governments and changed nations. I think we could manage SUFC.

Maybe it's time for a revival of BIFA?

Well some probably have a season ticket and will be hard pushed to find another blades fan to pay money to relieve them of it.

I have a season ticket and have had one for a good while now. But this season I have missed the Doncaster, Cardiff, Newcastle, Forest, Palace, Preston, QPR (Cup) and Middlesbrough match. I also wont be going this weekend against Derby.

The reason for not attending all but 1 of those matches is quite simply because I hate going at the minute. All i'd do if I was there would be to complain, which ruins it for the people sat around me.

I've missed more games in the first half of this season than i have in the last 3 years combined. Thats how bad its got for me.

The breaking point for all fans is different. Mine went months ago. Im now completely despondent to everything involved with the club. Needless to say I wont be renewing regardless of whatever "offer" is made.

You only have to think back to the atmosphere at the lane in the 05/06 and 06/07 season. The place was buzzing and alive. Now, while the attendances are still relatively high the place is dead. Of the 24,000+ there at least 15,000 are now season ticket holders, which in truth would probably not be going if they didn't already have the ticket.

The managers employed, the players disposed of and the style of football played over the last 3 years has done it for me.

I cannot help but to go back to my conversation with McCabe after our promotion against the Palace being the last game.McCabe said we would never see another celebration like that

He may be right, but not in the way he intended...

Not been since the 3 - 3 daw at home against Ipswich, and won't be going again while Nick Montgomery is at the Lane. Seen more than enough of that gimp, and all that he brings to the game of football so no thank-you, seen enough and don't want to pay to see anymore.

Can't argue with the overall opinion that it's not worth going at the moment, but throughout your years of Monty hatred we've usually had worse players, and we do at the moment.

In all Monty's hundreds of games (some good, some bad) he's never approached the standards of awfulness of Jordan Stewart last night.

In sentimental terms, it is our club.

In actual terms, it isn't. I don't see my name mentioned in any contracts or deeds.

Very well said!!

Without getting into a debate about his qualities or lack of... He was one of the very few who actually took responsibility in trying to do something about our situation last night. He regularly ended up winning a tackle in front of the defence, played the ball out to a blades man, then made himself available down the wing and even started getting into the box in front of the strikers. 3 or 4 times the lad had won the ball back, given it to a united player and then ran 50 yards in the same time as Quinny and Harper had wandered 5.

What ever you think of his "talent" or lack of, the lad actually cares. Had the rest of the team last night, we might have ended up being slightly better.

We all care, we'd all run through brick walls for the club but if you aren't good enough then you just aren't good enough, sorry. Whilever we play with no skill vision or talent, plenty of heart maybe, but without any skills to talk about you're dead in the water.

We have no midfield, we have no plan, b and we have no back up in the squad. We're in bother and the chairman has shown that he's unwilling to invest and so to that end, so am I.

No more for me till things change, enough is more than enough.

:gallop:

What do you do ?

mmmmmmm...... without knowing the FULL situation at BDTBL its hard to give an opinion, however its very clear that the forward planning has been awfull, incompetent or non existent. This is a puzzle to me given that i've always thought of McCabe as a sharp cookie, perhaps he's not.

Monty wll run into brickwalls all day, pause, look back see others not trying, turn around and continue to run into the brickwall.

Funnily enough, the brickwall was built by McCabe, Sponsored by Valad, and Managed by his son

I'm 100% sure McCabe is in full control and knows exactly what he's doing. As he did when he 1st took over, he's concentrating solely on behind the scenes and the team are suffering as a result.

I suspect the accounts will be very revealing whenever they're published because despite the loss of the parachute payments, there must have been close to £20M coming in with player sales, Tevez instalment etc.

You start by holding McCabe to account.
What is our investment in Hungary? Why are we providing staff and resources to a club I don't think United actually has an interest in?
Could those wages actually amount to funding a decent player to the first team?
What is the point of Chengdu? If it is a long-term venture based on the Chinese Super League eventually taking off but it will incur losses in the first place then clearly say so.
What is the chairman hoping to achieve with a one-dimensional manager subjected to a series of player sales?
Why isn't a younger, better manager (like O'Driscoll) given an opportunity with a clean slate and a clear agenda to change the culture who will be given time?
And generally, why is there no clear statement of intent from the chairman about what we are trying to achieve and how?
Talk of re-profiling is just bullshit when all that's happening is the creation of chaos on the pitch.
And it would be nice if someone could provide clear evidence that Trevor Birch actually exists.

OK i'll indulge :D

Yes we could spend big and create a huge debt for ourselves taking the gamble that it will work out. But thats what it is, a gamble which could quite easily fail as it could succeed. and if it fails, then we would be down and out and staring league 2 in the face.

Actually you don't have to spend big to get out of this division...just smart.
Did Burnley spend big?
Remember we made a profit apparently in the last accounts and to me, in our position in the league heirarchy that is equivalent to an athlete having a lot of strength left as he finishes the race that he should have won but didn't.
United aren't trying smart enough.

Totally agree - Blackwell has had plenty of money and wasted it. It really, really winds me up when people ignore this and go on about injuries without mentioning it. Fair enough I ignore injuries.

we did make a profit but I don't think it was a cash profit. The Tevez income was recognised and created the profit - the cash hasn't come yet and it is earmarked for McCabe and then I suspect the bank re property loans

I'm not renewing my season ticket. I made the decision a few weeks ago. I haven't missed a season since I started going in 1982. Every game for the past six months or so I've been thinking to myself why am I going? I don't see us play with any craft, guile or invention. Qualities most footballers are capable of to varying degrees when not strangled by the manager. The football is thoughtless and downright depressing to watch. I don't expect us to pay like Brazil, or even Doncaster for that matter! But the football served up by Blackwell is the final straw for me. I don't want to not go but I have to stop going for my own sanity. We've been progressive off the pitch for some time now. It's about time we began this move on the pitch. Robson was a false dawn and a failure but probably a genuine attempt to change the culture of the football at United. Let's not revert to type when we employ a new manager and move on.

UTB

Stop going.

It really is a dreadful last resort.

Gave up on aways last season and if Blackwell is still around to purvey his dreadful football the home games will go the same way next.

The problem is it's horrible not going and drives me up the wall. The only saving grace is that, at the moment, it is worse actually going. Once the ST runs out and I have to pay to watch the dross again then that will be the end.

Despite having an ST, living 3 hours from Sheffield makes it seem not worth the time, effort and money to go up for so many games now given performances like last night. Didn't go to the last saturday game, will be there this saturday as a visit to the family is due, but unless it's a lot different from last night I'll probably pass on driving up again the saturday after.

If he's any interest left whatsoever, I'd have thought he'd know all about this website. I know he knows of other, less poulated ones so can't believe he doesn't .

confession.. i'm with borg and greg on this.. i'm a lifelong blade of 40 years standing .. i'll be honest.. i've missed a few games this year too.. i couldn't be arsed to go to the reading game too cold.. i took our lass to meadowhall.. (it was so unusual, she was worried i was ill.. no shit) ..i was terrified someone might see the blades badges on the car.. that is how bad it has got.. i can't stand it.. i keep wanting to run on the pitch.. get hold of blackwell and shout 'are you fucking daft or what?'

cheers i feel better for that :-)
