As football fans, we are at the whims of chairmen, managers and players who are so out of touch with our experiences as fans.

Not for any of them the scraping together of £25 to buy a match ticket on a Saturday. The constant juggling of finances to try and follow your team. The journeys around the country in ageing, roasting coaches, cars packed full of lads or the fun of trying to find connecting trains are alien to these people.

No matter how much they kiss the badge or proclaim their undying love to the press, you know that their loyalty is for sale.

The same can't be said for us lot. Our choices are stark.

United or nothing.

And they really are our choices. We put up with what we have and continue to pay for it or we decide to step away from it all and stop going.

We can whinge, moan and grumble. But unless someone organises a committee and orchastrates a take over... what exactly are we mere fans going to achieve? Our money is but small change to football chairman, who really make the decisions about what goes on with little thought to what the fans may actually want. As much as we hate it, we are insignificant in the grand scheme of football.

The only legitimate protest a football fans has in isolation is to stop going. Write a letter to the Chairman and tell him why. If you really hate it all that much, there is nothing else you can do.

I'm not at that stage completely yet. But I know I'm not exactly envious of those who've travelled down tonight. And as I type, we concede the third.

Does anyone have any other plans in amongst their hyperbole?

I think you're spot on, other than another 'shoes off', people will vote with their feet. When are the ST renewal letters due out ?

I suggest Linz that you asked your NanNan why folks in our era continue to keep the faith and see what she has to say.
I have often asked myself the same question many times.
You know that we are going nowhere and imo Robson set us back years due to the fact that McCabe released the purse strings and Robson, while bringing in some good players completely failed to manage them.
When you look how many players Blackie has sold one has to feel a bit sorry for him but his style of play is dire.

Like I said in the shoutbox earlier... all we can do is sing as we go.

Go to meadowhall as Warnock would say.

ive mentioned this before but i'll reiterate here
football is a unique business.. if you fall out with cola/persil/macdonalds you don't go and buy pepsi/ariel/burger king instead. so you're stuffed unless you stop going.. my protest is to stop buying sky sports.. then all of the snivelling little teams with no following won't be able to compete at the top level w/o the tv handout

One way to look at it but if you carnt sing?

Hum... loudly.

I can fully understand where people who decide enough is enough are coming from. Fair play to them.

It's the people who continue to go but do nothing but complain about it that I don't get :)

It's like an abusive relationship.

Well some probably have a season ticket and will be hard pushed to find another blades fan to pay money to relieve them of it.

As you say, Linz, there is only one way to register feelings as supporters and that is a boycott. Unfortunately, it would have to be pretty near unanimous to have any effect and that would be impossible even with these levels of frustration.

I shall never stop going as its part of my life.
Always lived in hope but I think that due to the spin re being a settled top 10 premiership side the fans bought into it and that is the frustration.
I cannot help but to go back to my conversation with McCabe after our promotion against the Palace being the last game.McCabe said we would never see another celebration like that as we would never be going back to that division.
Another season on and NW loses the game against Wigan and back we go and it looks as if we are here for a long time.
I just hope I am wrong but promotion! It looks a long way off on tonights performance.

Not been since the 3 - 3 daw at home against Ipswich, and won't be going again while Nick Montgomery is at the Lane. Seen more than enough of that gimp, and all that he brings to the game of football so no thank-you, seen enough and don't want to pay to see anymore.

Kevin Blackwell is a very clueless man, and a man who if he genuinely believes some of the tripe he spouts after the matches, a very naive and short sighted man too. All in all, a joke of a manager.

The chairman is a man I've never taken too. Lot's of hot air, lot's of "I'm the biggest Blade in town" bollocks, and lot's of broken promises and bullshit about signing better players, not selling our few decent players, and Europe in 5 years.

Don't live in Sheffield any more, and whilst it's not impossible to get to the games, it is a chore and it is expensive. Too expensive to be honest, because the product is nowt but shite.

Have a pop if you like clappers, ridicule me for not going to the games, but I was there in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's when we were crap, and this more than compares to the bad times, and that's in spite of the false league position that we find ourselves in.

Football's changed at an alarming rate, mostly because of Sky, and the money involved has ruined it as a sport. There's no contact any more, and it's only geared towards the big boys winning. Cheats prosper, both on and off the pitch and to that end, even if we did get promoted the prize means nothing because we'll never be one of the fancied clubs.

Cold days ahead at the Lane methinks and that's very sad, sadder still that I won't be there to see them and worst of all? I won't give a shit

By god i think you might have actually posted something that i agree with.

As for the rest that is your opinion, and as such i wont start an argument with you about it.

But Your wrong :D

To answer the question of this thread.... I really don't know

Sack Blackie, replace him with *Insert Name*? Obviously this would be greeted as the solution by many. But I don't think its necessarily the answer.

We've lost the game tonight because of serious f*ck ups which have resulted in a 3rd choice back four ending the game.

True we're not creating and our managers decision is to replace our attacking outlet with the same and bring on a striker for a striker doesn't help.

Before we do anything about the Team manager, we need to seriously sort out the whole management of the club. Sort out the policies for transfers and contracts.

We've lost a lot of young talented players recently and replaced some of them with older less talented players, in some case we haven't replaced.

Blame Blackie all you like but we'll get the same old shite with the next manager unless we sort things. Poor decisions to cut costs and penny pinch have come home to roost in the last two days.

Our old pal Neil Warnock just made this comment after beating Wolves, this is at a club in administration:

The Administrator was disappointed we didn't sell Nathanial Clyne for 500k, but we're through to the next round of the cup and we'll probably make that in gates and TV revenue

It was ever thus. Try supporting the Blades for (in my case) 44 years. Develop a thick skin. Remember you don't have to go to matches. If it's winning you want there are plenty of clubs across the Pennines.

Up The Blades

Wrong about Nick Montgomery, the manager or the chairman?

I stand by what I've said and won't get into an argument as I think you're grown up enough to debate the points raised. Unlike some, but no doubt they'll be along later when they've stopped sobbing because their little unbeatables got beat again ;)

Agree with all that mate. I'm starting to find the trip from Chapeltown to the Lane boring and tiresome.

Anyway hows you and Deeks?

I hope your still keeping the North Yorkshire cottaging industry in business.

:gallop:

We'll be rocking and rolling in a bar full of Leeds fans tomorrow night mate, so tonights result really could have been a bit better for us.

:gallop:

More to the point, how are Brownie and Les?

here's an idea.. we should ironically 'ole!' any passing sequence of more than say 5 passes

I had to give up my season ticket in the summer due to moving overseas. My last live Blades experience was Wembley. I must admit I have found it easier to get by without my saturday afternooons at the Lane than expected.... (although I am usually glued to the internet radio coverage so its hard to totally kick the habit:) The main reason its been easier is the dire style of play, last season wasn't much fun to watch and I didn't actually enjoy going to many of the games, there was no buzz of excitement or anticipation, and it sounds even worse this season.
To some extent I feel sorry for Blackwell as he is having the team sold out from underneath him. Losing Walker yesterday (no idea why yet, I haven't caught up on the background story) and then Morgan after 40 minutes and with a brand new player who only met his teammates yesterday also in the back four always meant the defence was going to be dodgy tonight. Still all that said its still a shocking result, I suspect most of the 'oldies' (like me) could put up with being mediocre if the team were entertaining, if Blackwell stops ticking the winning boxes then he has got nothing going for him at all.

More to the point, how are Brownie and Les?

Well they did one once the little 'uns had flown the nest but they've been back scouting the old nest box out these last few weeks so fingers crossed they'll be back.

Had some bother with a blackbird (Harry) bullying the young 'uns but he's been seen off by a ferocious wagtail, and the ever present red kites keep him on his toes.

NY tits, harder than the average ones.

:gallop:

Anything to add to that NorthYorks??

OK i'll indulge :D

Its obvious that you have no like for Monty, I personally do like him as a player, he's a workhorse that is a benefit to the club who puts in a shift (Can't comment on tonight as i wasnt there). I know a number of fans dont like him, and he gets abuse for alot of what isnt his fault IMO. He's not the best passer, or the fastest player but he works hard. Difference of opinion between us there which we are both entitled to.

Big Mart;221284Kevin Blackwell is a very clueless man said:
Im not the biggest fan in the world either, his post match interviews are mostly rubbish, and i dont think that he knows his best team. But then considering the amount of player turnover so far this season, is that such a surprise? I dont think he will take us forward, long term, but i also am not overly convinced that now is the right time for him to go. I dont want us to end up like the wendies, fighting for survival, but with the exception of Coppell im not sure who is out there to make things better.

Big Mart;221284The chairman is a man I've never taken too. Lot's of hot air said:
Just take into account that the "Hot Air" promises an statements that were made previously were made when financially things were rosey (and i dont mean at the club, im talking generally throughout football and business as a whole) things are very different now which you have alluded to yourself. McCabe hasnt made the money he has by being a crap businessman, and i for one (and probably the only) hope he can make the same financial success and stability of the club so that we dont end up in a position that many clubs are finding themselves in right now. Yes i want success, but i also want a club to support. If that means that we spend another 13 "Oh so nearly" years in this division then so be it. I know that ill get shot to shit by saying this, but i at least would like to go to the match with the knowledge that a win isnt beyond us, rather than heading there knowing that were going to loose.

Yes we could spend big and create a huge debt for ourselves taking the gamble that it will work out. But thats what it is, a gamble which could quite easily fail as it could succeed. and if it fails, then we would be down and out and staring league 2 in the face.

My opinion on it anyway, feel free to rip it to pieces :D
