Suppose the reason for cautious optimism is that non of us have a crystal ball and its better than bring pessimistic.
We got promoted with alot of mid table players but we're better than the sum of our parts , we don't know ehat the budget is or how it compares but its likely to be one of the highest and the rest so all in all the season could turn out to be anything ,at this stage I'm remaining hopefull

“If you say that something is more than the sum of its parts or greater than the sum of its parts, you mean that it is better than you would expect from the individual parts, because the way they combine adds a different quality”

Sadly not the case as we have seen.

Somehow, some fucking how, we have spent 3 of the last 5 years in the Prem and we are managing to come back down in the worst position financially, for years.

Despite selling N'Diaye, Berge and Ramsdale for many millions. Despite parachute payments. We'll have 7 senior pros in contract, and those pros have something like 15 career goals between them.

We're left needing large scale recruitment, and a new squad, with a new identity, all at once. We're expecting to use loans of PL youngsters and many experienced pros, presumably on frees.

We've had 5 years of being COMFORTABLY the best side in Sheffield. And yet this. This coming season, the derbies risk going the other way. We've had all that, and what now to show for it? FFS.

Been in the Prem is not a golden ticket for a rosy financial future, just the opposite.
Everton have never been out of it and look at the mess they are in.
We overspent last time and paid for it, now weve completely the opposite way, but sensibly we have improved the infrastructure
Hotel, training ground, land that McCabe owned, and improving the Academy and scouting structure.
Until we get fresh investment we will always have to be smart recruitment wise, value for money.
Lets hope Wilder delivers, for all our sake 😊
