Was on the train that day. Trouble after the match and we were herded to the station for the journey home. Think the train might have got bricked at a bridge too. That season was mental at away matches.
A blade near me got hit with a dart in shoulder 🎯 that game , Bradford, Tranmere & Rochdale ( when Man U home game had been called off ) the same , that’s just off the top of my head ⚔️

Get a load of Little Lord Fauntleroy over here. We're all "working class hoi polloi".

As opposed to Wednesday, who draw their support from such idyllic bastions of middle-class opulence, exemplified by Parson Cross, Wisewood, Chapeltown, Southey Green, Shiregreen, Firth Park and Shirecliffe....

Where do they get this from? I’ve seen them saying it loads, as if it’s a fact, but if you look at where they draw most of their support from I can’t see why they think this. If anything, with us having more of our support from the south (wealthier) side of Sheffield, shouldn’t it be the other way around?

I've often thought the exact same thing.

I think we draw our support from a broader cross-section of the city. Yes we have Manor, Handsworth, Arbourthorne etc which are rough and ready areas, but we also draw a great deal of support from Ecclesall, Totley, Dore and the like, which are among the most affluent and middle class regions to be anywhere in Sheffield.

I think it’s probably the usual case with a lot of them having ideas above their station.

Top ten club in England, because they won the Rumbelows cup 30 years ago. Middle class because they earn £25k a year and have a decent car on finance.

They probably mean that we have less supporters on the Dole.

Or could they mean that lot at the back of the Kop who want to bring back standing?........

Yep, Hartlepool was not a nice place to visit. Got pelted with bricks.

Other dodgy small towns include Mansfield and Lincoln.

Given how grim and dilapidated Hillsborough is you’d think it would be seen as a hostile place to go.

However, the atmosphere there is much more akin to a game of ice hockey or a pop concert. House band, songs with noises rather than words, choreographed jumping etc, mobile phone lights etc

At the lane it’s much more of a traditional football atmosphere with the fans right on top of the pitch.

In terms of how the clubs are perceived in general we tend to revel in underdog status and want our players running through brick walls.

They see themselves as more of an “establishment” club probably as a result of their association with Dave Richards etc and the baffling regular use of Hillsborough for Semi Finals, along with their brief stint of Premier League success in re early 90s. They are very keen to be “validated” by fans of other clubs and have always been easily placated by signing anyone with a foreign name as an indicator of status, regardless of whether they are any good or not.

I'm glad you mentioned that mate, I brought it up in another thread and I was worried it was a forgotten chapter in our history. Funny how things change, it's Norwich we have a mutual loathing with now.

Well he was, to put it politely, a cunt every time we played Ipswich. He spat on...Don Hutchinson?...when we beat them in the Play-offs and I think he'd previously got someone sent off with a ridiculous dive.

He was generally just a thoroughly nasty piece of work though, rivalled only by Kevin Muscat as the most unpleasant overseas full back in English football...
