Agreed and most fans do go for that reason. We've certainly had a culture at both Sheffield clubs over the years which have probably helped to fuel these things...

But I also think that the club and football generally have done a lot over the years to reduce the issues, but it looks like there is still more to be done.

The positive nowadays is that Police presence is much less visible, they don't segregate fans outside the lane in the way they did in the 90's and early 2000's, leading to fans mixing together and socialising in pubs much more.

The flipside of that is that it gives more opportunity for disorder.
 
I'm nobody's genius, but doesn't that mean that over 100.000 more fans attended games at the lane than swillsboro during this time period.

Funny this hasn't been picked up by the blinkered attendence obsessed piglets.

I think that anybody who has killing a man outside Wembley in 1993 and beating a Leeds fan to death outside Lloyd's in town in 2012 on their dishonours board should probably shut the fuck up about violence at football.

Yet they were quick enough to squeal like...well, pigs when I gently reminded them about the time Hartlepool fans kicked the fuck out of them a few years ago. Some even tried to find out my address 🤣

We ought to return to the days of mayhem in the stadium, like it was under Warnock, it was much better than the embarrassing fans we've suddenly acquired who think that those standing up is a disgrace but hitting someone who stands up with an iron bar would be okay. Any excuse I suppose, even if it means with your own fans.

We used to have quite a big rivalry with Ipswich in the late 90s so I was pleasantly surprised by how respectful they were at the Lane on day we all but secured promotion to the Premier League in 2019.

I'm glad you mentioned that mate, I brought it up in another thread and I was worried it was a forgotten chapter in our history. Funny how things change, it's Norwich we have a mutual loathing with now.

Well he was, to put it politely, a cunt every time we played Ipswich. He spat on...Don Hutchinson?...when we beat them in the Play-offs and I think he'd previously got someone sent off with a ridiculous dive.

He was generally just a thoroughly nasty piece of work though, rivalled only by Kevin Muscat as the most unpleasant overseas full back in English football...

Was on the train that day. Trouble after the match and we were herded to the station for the journey home. Think the train might have got bricked at a bridge too. That season was mental at away matches.

They are benchmarking by percentage of visitors who cause incident

but what isnt been taken into consideration is an element of those are away fans

I’m pretty sure the likes of Milwall, WBA, Brum, Cardiff etc bring a larger contribution to that number than the likes of Torquay, Shrewsbury and Morcambe offer in Div1

also, would you not be frozen with fear at the sheer terror of been in such a squalid death trap that just getting out alive is enough of an adrenaline rush when ’visiting’ that shithole*

*apologies to all decent shitholes, ive eaten in curry houses, drank in pubs, returned to birds houses that I have deemed a shithole, but not S6 level
