...it's likely to be the bulk of discussion this week, so hows about some good memories of the hole that is Hillsborough to get us in the mood?

You can see all the United fans jump up in the North Stand when Davison scores.

Watched it from the middle of the North Stand with 3 mates. It was full of Blades in there and we all went mental. You could almost feel sorry for the pigs around us. Almost....:)

After Leicester. right up there with my favorite memories. My 2 sons will get their first visit to The Sty this Sunday. I really hope their memories will be just as good.

UTB

what a night, was in the uncovered corner bit, got pissed wet through but did'nt care, could hardly talk for days after from all the singing, fantastic and i've still got the ticket stub, up there amongst the best times. WE BEAT THE SCUM 3-1, more of the same on sunday please.

On the bottom tier that night, was in the middle of a 'major personal upheaval', and deeply needed a 'pick me up'. Managed to get a ticket somehow, and can still remember everyone saying "Why have signed that goalhanger?".

Bobby Davison was a real thorn in our side as we lost 4-0 to Leeds in the previous promotion season, constantly getting in Tracey's way, and it wasn't forgotten. Ninety minutes later, a legend was born. I don't think I've ever jumped up and down as much as that night. No matter what some say, that night erased the power that Boxing Day had.

To beat them 4-0 at their place would truly exorcise the ghosts. and I can't see that happening anytime soon, but I just hope we don't have to host or visit that filth in the League for an awful long time.

Great video foxy, i just hope no one sees this as copyright infringement and tears it down like many other great United vids that had little internet life.

Would be great if you could get the clip of United lighting up leppings lane end with flares everywhere!

Also, on the video at around 41 seconds, you can see Whitehouse look towards their north stand and think to himself, "christ theres Blades in their end celebrating!"

Yes, me and around 2-3000 others. I said to my mate don't jump about if we score we'll get mullered. However when Dane scored in the first 5mins you couldn't help but go banana's. Cue scene's from beiriut. Still the best away match I've been to. Also did the double over the pigs again that night.
Also it proves if you have belief you don't need superstars to win. In the lineup that night was Gannon Gayle Rodgers hardly the most skilled of their day.

Fantastic. Am I the only one to have shouted "fuck off Carlton you pig bastard" at the computer screen as soon as his ugly face appeared?

We have got video highlights of the home game from that season too :)

You can tell my Uncle's been digging out his old VHS tapes!

That video is a thing of beauty! My first ever 'away' match (aged about 10/11), sat just to the right of the net on the front tier... right near where Whitehouse ran to!

Happy days!

I actually spent that evening sat near junction 27 of the M1, was living and working in Hucknall then. Couldn't pick up radio sheffield (or was it Hallam) in the house, so walked to there where I knew I could get it. When Davison's second went in some passing motorist must have been a bit concerned as about 10 mins later a cop car pulled up to find out what on earth was going on!

It was a special night - made even more special for the fact that we hadn't played at the Sty for years.
Bob Booker had left us in September 1991 but he came back for that match and was sitting just behind me in the middle of the Blades fans. As was Def Leppard star Joe Elliott who I believe had come over from the States just for the match. No VIP boxes for them!

As good a night as I've ever had watching us play.

My (now ex) wife was having an op in Jessops and I had to run from there to The Sty at about quarter to seven (it's further than it looks!). We were sat in the South Stand as my Piggy mate's kids were the two mascots for the scum and he had got us comps in there.
Oh what fun we had surrounded by the grunters. Best moment was when Greasy Gloves let the ball through his legs and Hodges nearly made it 4. The two of us stood up and chanted "Englands number one" to the amusement of our neighbours.

Well done Foxy! That is the first time I have since that video since that night! Was also on the open corner, absolutely soaked but really didn't care one bit. No voice for days afterwards but so what.,

What happened to people taking loadsa balloons to the Sty?

I always have some shoved in my bag but I seem to be the minority these days.

I was sat in the top corner of the North stand with a couple of hundred other Blades.

What a night that was!

After all the calls from many pigs telling me what they were gonna do to us that evening, it just worked out beautifully!

F'kin loved it! :)

Without a shadow of a doubt the best night I have ever had supporting United. I was 5 when Boxing Day happened and thankfully too young to know it had happened - that didn't stop every pig I grew up with reminding me of it at every opportunity for the next 12 years. Two years before when we went there and lost in extra-time in the ZDS I was distraught - thinking we'd missed a chance to alleviate the pain and having to put up with more pigs lording it over us.

The 2-0 win at the Lane was brilliant - I think we'd sold Agana a week or so beforehand and Deane was coming back from a lay-off. They were riding high and we were doing our usual early season struggle at the bottom. Wasn't a classic by any stretch, but the way they contrived to hand us the match was marvelous.

Since that match every pig had been telling us what was coming when we got to Hillsborough - and I think every Blade had decided long in advance that win, lose or draw we were going to have a party that night. I can remember every tiny detail of the evening - from buying booze under-age at the local off-licence, to the journey in the car and the walk to the ground. We always had a sweepstake at school on first scorer for big games - but the arrogant pig who ran it said it would be unfair to rub it in for us Blades, so we had it on who would concede the first throw-in instead. Far from the cultured 'total football' I was told we would be taught a lesson in, Phil King promptly shat himself when faced with Bradders bearing down on him and sliced it out for a throw - earning me £25. I knew we were in for a good night. Whitehouse confirmed it a matter of moments later.

We finished up the night in The Sidings in Dronfield - smoking fat cigars on a long lock-in watching the match played back on Sky. I was hoarse for days afterwards and I've never, ever hit that kind of high watching the Blades since.

It's a real shame that Palace lost on Saturday, as this could have measured up to it if we'd sent them down. We'll just have to make it a cricket score instead.

Although I've got the usual pre-derby feeling in the pit of my stomach that this could all turn out horribly - but then I had it that night too. COYRAWW!

Brings back memories that does.

Me and my old man were in the West Stand right in the corner at the Leppings Lane end, we went bonkers when Dane hit the first and were promptlt told to "sit down and shut the fuck up" which we found extremely hard to do when Bobby slammed in the third!

I also had a blind date with a bird, (who ended up living with for 2 years!) at the Punchbowl on Crookes that night, she didn't put-out on the night though which would have been the icing on the cake..........................

Incase anyone doesn't know-the game is on BBC live Sports Extra online for those of us who are not going and can't get Radio Sheffield where we are.

Tell me about it. Fooking saddos. Most of the porkers that remind you of it weren't even born when it happened. Its the only thing they can cling on to because we have the better win record. The title they give it is a complete myth as well.....

I know two people that went to that game, one a Blade and one a pig. Both told me that the first goal was entirely against the run of play and after the second United threw bodies forward chasing the game. We were thread bare at the back as a consequence and they hit us on the break twice (with long balls from what one said). Both admitted the scoreline was flattering and hardly a massacre.

We beat Cardiff 5-1 to gain promotion ahead of them in the early 70's. But we dont remind them of it every time we play them!!! How you can hold something over your rival club that happened before you were born is beyond me. We beat them 7-3 in 1951, should I crow on about that....."We're better than you because we beat you 7-3 in the massacre of 51".....tossers.

That said, if our thrashing them on Sunday ultimately resulted in them being relegated I can't guarantee that I wouldn't remind anyone of the fact at some point in the future (maybe just once or twice).

I'll always have my dreams.....

Here's another ;)

Waht a fantastic night, I was right behind the goal, soaked to the skin and loved every second. Cheers for that.
