No not United's dealings but, hopefully, the beginning of the end for this manufactured 'deadline day' scam. Like a Boxing Day sale, it's all whipped up by the press (particularly Sky) and, like a sale, you're usually left with some old tat nobody else wanted. Hammond? Burns? Hammill? Henfleet? I hadn't heard of them yesterday and I'll have forgotten the names tomorrow.

The significant movers are West Ham, but that's what happens when you have a multi-million pound stadium gifted to you.

A special mention must go to Man. U. whose handling of the de Gea move makes our 'Faxgate' seem positively professional. Van Gaal is chucking money around like an idiot while expecting Rooney to shoulder scoring responsibilties. They 'wanted' Bale but ended up with some overpriced French kid.

Kevin de Bruyne? Flopped at Chelsea (and in two subsequent loan spells) but had one decent season in the lower reaches of the Bundesliga. Got to be worth £55m...

But talking of 'managing expectations', our pals at S6 take the biscuit. Jordan Rhodes? Connor Whickham? Ross McCormack? Glenn Murray? Nah. We'd rather have Barry Bannan and some Watford cast-off. Still, that's what you get for your £50+ ticket. Bullshit rumours

The main issue I have with this post is saying de Bruyne flopped at Chelsea.. If a player isn't given a chance to show what they can do, its impossible for them to have failed.

It will get worse next season when they scrap the emergency loan system. Any loans will need to be done before the window shuts. Imagine the stockpiling some will do.

That's crazy, and will make an already manic system even worse. As you suggest, the stockpiling of players will take on the appearance of a collector's fair.

The transfer windows really need to go. The stockpiling by the bigger clubs is killing the development of our young players. The FA are always talking about what needs to be done to improve English player production. This would be a massive and obvious step. Go back to the old system. Let players develop at their clubs rather than sit in the reserves of Prem clubs scratching around for loan moves just in case the Prem club gets an injury crisis and needs that player.

Players like Maguire wouldn't have gone to Hull. It's happening in the championship now as well. Let's get the squad sized down and allow clubs more flexibility to bring someone in as and when they are needed. If all clubs did this, we wouldn't be quite so fed up when we fail to get that extra strength in depth come deadline day.

Loved this stat. Chelsea have 32 players out on loan. Now I imagine some of these players are youngsters but when you consider they have loaned Marin, Kalas and Salah - all internationals it beggars belief! The whole window allows bigger richer clubs to hoover up all the talent and then send them out on loan - but you are at their mercy because you end up paying a fee and at any point they can recall them. Its scandalous.

Not so long ago I penned a diatribe to the FL about obscene the stock piling of players at Prem clubs killing the FL teams and that they should restrict the number of loans out from any one Prem team per season to FL teams to about 5-6, to help prevent this hoovering up of the best young talent - I stated that it would help the development of young players - not pissing about in uncompetitive U21 games - Their response was that it was a good thing as FL teams could loan a player that they would never be able to afford if the loan system wasn't in place.

I stuck the egg back up the chickens arse in disgust

To say De Bruyne failed at Chelsea is crazy, he just didn't fit into Mourinho''s plans. Too young and exciting.
And to say he's had a decent season in the lower reaches of the bundesliga is equally crazy.

He was the top assister in europe for the side that finished 2nd in the Bundesliga behind the best side in Germany by some distance Bayern, if we're going on todays values De Bruyne is worth every penny. Fantastic player.

That apart, I do agree with the thread.

I would scrap the loan system entirely, save for keepers.

No more stockpiling
No more distorting competition

I am not a violent man,but i would really like to bash Jim White over the head with my bat, several times, and shove that yellow tie where the sun does not shine,
