............................John Carver?

http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sheffield-utd/Carver-in-charge-as-Speed.6659871.jp

No real experience of being a full time manager

Who's last stint as caretaker boss resulted in 4 defeats from 5 matches

According to the YP he is to be given a minimum of 4 games and if he is succesful will take on his first full time managers job!

Is Carver the man to save us?

have a read

Carver was the assistant manager to Bobby Robson at Newcastle United. Following Robson's sacking in September 2004, Carver was appointed caretaker manager and guided the team to a 3-0 win against Blackburn Rovers. Carver later dedicated the win to Bobby Robson. Despite the victory, Carver was not considered for the permanent job, that position going Graeme Souness who opted to bring in his own backroom staff.

In July 2005 Leeds United appointed Carver as a first team coach, replacing the departed Adrian Boothroyd who left the club to be the new manager of Watford. He was part of the management team of Kevin Blackwell and Sam Ellis. Following the exit of Sam Ellis in May 2006, Carver was promoted to the position of assistant manager.

Carver became a caretaker manager for the second time in his career after Leeds United fired Kevin Blackwell following a disastrous start to the season. Carver celebrated a win in his first game in charge after beating Birmingham City 3-2. However a series of heavy defeats under Carver's management, culminating in a 5-1 drubbing by Luton Town, led to Leeds Chairman Ken Bates opting instead to recruit the Swindon management team of Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet. Carver left Leeds United 23 October 2006, with the club in turmoil on and off the field.

Kevin Blackwell subsequently became the manager of Luton Town, and he recruited Carver as his assistant, along with another ex-Leeds coach Sam Ellis. With Luton going through major financial difficulties, including the administrator's decision to sell players from under the management's feet, Carver, along with Blackwell and Ellis made the joint decision to leave the club in January 2008.

On 1 February 2008 he became head coach of the Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, with previous coach, Mo Johnston, remaining as manager and Director of Soccer with an emphasis on handling player transfers. He was thereby reunited with an old friend from Newcastle United since Paul Winsper had been hired in January as Strength and Conditioning Coach.[1]

In April 2009, Carver was charged $750 (USD) by MLS for openly criticising the standard of refereeing during a 3-2 loss away to FC Dallas. He was absent from the bench during the a 1-0 home win over Chivas USA four days later and eventually resigned on 25 April 2009, one day before the team's home clash with Kansas City Wizards.[2]

In December 2009, Carver was appointed assistant head coach to Paul Mariner at Plymouth Argyle. On 14 January 2010 he rejected an approach from Burnley manager Brian Laws to join the Lancashire club as a coach, stating his desire to repay the loyalty shown by Paul Mariner and the club as his reason for staying. [3]

In August 2010, Carver was appointed first team coach at Sheffield United by manager Gary Speed, Speed having played under Carver when he was assistant manager at Newcastle United. This appointment reunited Carver with Sam Ellis who was assistant to Speed

Erm....NO.

BUT

I would be happy for him to take charge of the next 4 games if it meant we took our time for once and made sure we got the right man. A rushed appointment will spell disaster in my opinion.

The danger is though that we win 3 of the 4 and McCabe takes a punt......

i still think its gunna be pembo. hes on the books already has the academy coach and knows the talent thats coming threw(if there is any) and lets face it with no money the players we need are gunna have to come from somewhere

I can understand putting Carver in charge as a caretaker...................until the new man is in place.

That is as far as it goes tho with regards to him.

Seriously, is this the fella the club should choose to save us from relegation?

I actually thought he was off to work with Speed, but this YP article doesn't suggest that at all.

I heard on Radio Sheffield that Carver might be going to join up with Speed eventually.

Agreed, there's no major rush to get someone in. This season is an absolute write off, and the only expectation for the incoming manager will be survival. Get the right guy and that shouldn't be too difficult.

If carver wants the job though, he should apply for it like the rest.

It'll be Phil Brown. Phil... fucking... Brown.

If they appoint from within and in doing so, dont go for an experienced no.1.....that's it for me. I will have officially given up.

"but, with finances tight and pressure to reduce the wage bill, there will be no money to fund a high-profile replacement." HELP

Help indeed :(

Having said that, there are a few potentially suitable replacements with managerial experience that SURELY wouldnt cost any more than Speed's compo (initially). That sum is a gift and wasnt budgeted for.....it should be used to replace the out-going manager. But it wont be!!!!!

Blades and Carver - the words go together quite nicely.

He's certainly been around a bit.

Que sera sera....

I think Houso has it, Brown was apparently 2nd choice behind Speed when Blackie left and most importantly as far as the Board are concerned, wouldn't cost any compo. Saved Hull from a similar position then took them up, ticks all the right boxes for them I would have thought.

Any one but Megson.Although his appointment wouldnt divide the fans.Everybody detests him.

Looking at the brilliant post by Cresswellblade detailing Carvers chequered history I would have to say NO he's not the man to save us at all. Blackwell, Ellis and Carver are as thick as thieves, the 3 Amigos, and have done nothing at Sheff Utd in regards to improving things on the pitch at all, thats even WITH a bit of money (how much Ched Evans again????). We need a clean sweep, get rid of the sorry lot of them. According to Radio Sheff it will be Carver assissted by Chris Morgan for the time being and probably, knowing Mc Tightarse Letswastemoney, if they DO manage to scrape us out of the relegation dog fight (not holding my breath) they could be in for a
run there. I'd like to see Phil Brown, Mickey Adams, ideally Warnock (thats not gonna happen) but someone to bring a bit of passion back and sort this current load of shite out. Just PLEASe no knee jerk reaction again, and none of the usual suspects jobs for the boys club of which Robson was a member with Dowie, Shearer, etc
Just a note on the compensation to be paid by the WFA to Sheff Utd. I've read several posts saying we could use it to lure so and so or whoever from different clubs to the Lane. There is NO WAY Mc Tightarse will allow that to happen, Sheff Utd are 18m in debt so you know where that money is going straight away!
