To clinch promotion? Please no smart arse comments like more than all the rest. We were talking in the pub last night and think 22 should see us get the title.

Can't see anyone but us getting to or past 93. Fleetwood and Scunny may get to 91-92 points.

12 games left.
36 available
68 on the board
7 clear of third
That'll take 4-5 games for anyone to claw back (considering it's unlikely that we will lose 3 on the bounce)
So that reduces the number to 7
Of those, to get autos we'd need to win at least 6 to remain ahead. So 18 more to get promoted - agree 22 (+2) should see us stay at the top.

Bearing in mind what the footballing gods can do, I won't be sure until its mathematically impossible for us to be overtaken by two teams. At the moment that's 99 points.

I said a while ago that I felt 86 would be enough this year to secure second spot at least and that we'd probably beat Bradford at home to get to 86 points.

5 wins 3 draws and 2 defeats gets us that and is realistically achievable.

MK Dons away or Chessy at home will see us as Champions in the above scenario.

We could, of course, go on an amazing run and bring all that forward by a couple of games.

We should be going for the ton :)

2 points a game is usually the yardstick and we're bang on target but given that those below have still to play each other, 7 wins out of 12 might be enough.

Based on what I have seen from both Scunny and Bolton recently I think each of them will struggle to keep up with Fleetwood, never mind catch us.
What with Bradford and Southend sneaking into form and Millwall and Oxford steaming up on the fence, the battle for second spot is going to be tight and will expend a lot of physical and emotional energy from 3 or 4 teams below us. We just need to keep our foot on the gas for the 6 or 7 games and hopefully by the time Bradford roll into town it should be job done, or just about.

I reckon

Win 6, draw 3, lose 3 will be enough for promotion
Probably need a bit better to win the league though.

I said last night that

10 wins and a draw makes it arithmetically certain...

Given the fixtures, and that no team, never mind 2 will win all their games, 7 wins, will get us up, 8 wins for the title IMO

22?

You can get promoted with 22 points, how shit are 3rd division teams?

All of them.

That should be Chris Wilder's mentality anyway, and I'm fairly sure that it is. We should look to win them all. We probably won't, but getting promotion sewn up as soon as mathematically possible should be the aim.

Would be nice to guarantee promotion away at vale on good Friday.
Spend all weekend on the sauce ,then party like fucking idiots on Monday vs Bradford at home.

7 more wins will win the league.

That would be 89 points, another 21.

Throw in the inevitable couple of draws then that'll take us past 90.

With the mentality we've now got I don't see us dropping off at all, I don't see us bottling it, and I'm certain we won't lose more than 2 games. We could well get 95+ points.

The squad is strong enough and the mentality likewise to go unbeaten for the rest of the season ..

Players like eel who dropped intensity will have learned their lesson if called upon so its difficult to see us dropping many points

Being pragmatic I think the division has got lower in quality year .in year out and the scrap for second will be a real dogfight its up to us to stay out of that as I fear it will be a real mess

I'd like to think we could remain unbeaten between now and the end of the season.

Doing that will mean we will comfortably win the league.

This league will be over by end of March.

Harsh on EEL
He lost his place due to injury
Allus plays better when Wright in centre of the three but that's the same for Bash and J'OC
EEL can't get back in the side cos Bash has been absolutely top drawer, recently.

Unless we self-implode, based on the stats, only Fleetwood can put a spanner in the works (can't believe I'm typing this) but only for the title. They will also have to maintain their recent form for the rest of the season.

Based on season average;

Blades 92
Scunny 85
Bolton 83
Fleetwood 83

Based on last 8 average;

Fleetwood 88
Blades 86
Scunny 81
Bolton 77

Yeah didn't mean to imply he was dropped due to form but his form (along with a few others )did drop before his injury but I'm sure he will be up to the job if called upon

Fleetwood have found an effective system like we did, it's also 3-5-2 - it seems to work well in this league. But no way will they get 90 points IMO. I think they'll go into the top 2 then bottle it over the last 4/5 games. Then Scunny or Bolton will squeeze back in.

If Millwall had won their last 2 games, which they should have done (0-0 home v Chezzy then missed pen at 0-0 in last minute at Oldham), then I'd have been backing them to finish 2nd. They would've only been 5 points off 2nd. They've only conceded one in 11 games, which is incredible.

I refer you to my Wright honourable gentleman ;)
He could be replacing Wright depending on the circumstances
Still think we'd be alright though .

Do you think Wright will be a starter next year or will we have to upgrade ?

We'll have a much better idea in a couple of weeks when Fleetwood have played Bolton and Scunny. We need to put a run of wins together now, whilst we've got a full first team fit, and put a bit of distance between us and 3rd so we're better placed to cope with any shit fortune throws our way towards the end of the season.

It's ours to lose now and, for once, we seem physically up for it and mentally strong enough.

I agree 86 may well be enough, I would think barring something extraordinary from another side 88 is almost a certainty.

As a word of caution for us all, what we don't want is Scunthorpe and Bolton both winning their 2 home matches this week and us losing at Rochdale on Saturday. The league will look very competitive again if that happens.

If we get a decent haul from our next 3 (all away) games, Rochdale, Oxford and Swindon we will be looking good. Anything 6 and above excellent, 4 or 5 Ok.
